Yes they have been a thing for years...for PC's...but not for consoles. consoles never had an SDD, so for consoles its a revolution, level loading times are gone, loading screens by starting up a game are gone, corridorgames (with the purpus for loading the next part of the level) are gone. So yes for consoles it is a revolution.

O i'am sorry. But talking about PS3... It was the first console ever that used Bluray for movies and games. A Bluray player was very expensive that time. And Sony toke a great risk to use Bluray, therefore was the PS3 600. Sony was loosing money on every console they sold, a lot of money. Theyr was also a risk that HD-dvd could win the format"war".
But at the end it payed off. Bluray was and is the standard format.
And MS had not another option to put a Bluray ...
Except this runs on a PC using Nvdia raytracing tech...and that is not the same as AMD raytracing solution, Nvdia's RT is more sophisticated....
