I still have my fingers crossed for September 9. I know it's a pipedream, but it would be a great PSX callback.
I can wait. I think it'll be worth it.
I have problems with Wada and Kitase as well. I'm not saying that Nomura needs to be fired or even completely removed from Final Fantasy. I'm just saying that he needs to take a step back from being a main character designer.
I'd rather see him do promotional art ala Amano than be the main guy on Final Fantasy designs.
You're right. What I was saying is that it's the first move in what I hope will become the next big console war. The 16 bit wars ushered in a ton of innovation and aggressive marketing and deals for consumers. Sega and Nintendo tried to outdo each other on price drops and bundles as well as pump out amazing exclusive games.
And I don't claim to be a journalist. I'm just a guy that likes writing about video games. :)
It's not a great commercial, but whenever I hear hyperbolic talk like this it makes me wonder how much context the person has. The ads in the '90s were really awful, both in TV and print. Considering that even Nintendo took the lowbrow approach this Metal Gear ad is just a harmless commercial.
I really hope that game doesn't end up as vaporware.
I can understand that. For my part, I actually enjoyed FF XIII and XIII-2, but XIV made me sad. I'm looking forward to A Realm Reborn though, and I'll be buying Lightning Returns on day one, even if I'm not as excited for it as I was about XIII.
I still have hope that they'll do something to make the standard party structure viable again. As cool as it was to finally get my level 75 in aby (I didn't have the time to put into the game like I would have liked), I miss having a defined role in a 6 person group.
Oh, that's interesting. I'm definitely going to keep that in mind next time I play FF X. I really loved it when it first came out and it's still one of my favorite FF games. I was a big Tidus defender back then, and still am today.
When it came to talking about story, I did my best to avoid spoilers, instead trying to stick to the quick overview/synopsis when needed.
With that said, I don't remember that part of the game, but I also haven't played FF X since around 2004, so my memory of the last quarter of the game is a bit fuzzy. Waiting for that HD version to revisit it.
I definitely feel that Square Enix has lost their way, and I keep coming back to Tetsuya Nomura and Yoshinori Kitase. Nomura has created such a ubiquitous design style that it's bled into almost every aspect of the Square side of the business, not to mention his silly naming conventions.
And Kitase is clearly tired of making role playing games at this point, going as far to say that he felt that FF XIII has more in common with FPS games than RPGs.
I own Bahamut's Lagoon and always wished it had gotten a proper release in English. I really liked what little I was able to play in Japanese.
And then listen along and see what you think!
