This is what worries me about today's web based journalism, people just write crap whenever they feel like.
Whether there are flaws in Mass Effect or not, the language of that piece itself marks it as a "i-so-badass-that-i-want- your-attention". It really seems as if he's not even trying to offer criticism, just spew whatever comes into his head.
