I hated this game for the same reason I hated the cell-shaded Prince of Persia: it's barely a game.
Anyone who thinks this is true wasn't alive when the SNES and Genesis were going at it.

Except that article is just as garbage. Say what you will about the 360 or the Halo series, but ODST is far from a bad game, let alone one of the worst exclusives for the system. Both of these articles are just flame-bait garbage posted for some quick hits.
I think that what you're describing is more of an issue about the personality of the heroes, not necessarily their looks. I mean, Samunosuke from Onimusha or even Dante from DMC weren't exactly massive "macho" protagonists, but they were both seriously badass. I kind of feel that both you and Wada are making overly broad generalizations.

I especially liked when he said Dark Sector had a "decent" story. I own it (it was like 5 bucks new) and I can say it has one of the most poorly conceived and executed stories of any game I've ever played. Ever. That said, for five bucks it was good enough for a couple hours of mindless limb removal.
And this game just jumped wayyy up on my list of games to get. The shotgun is totally the bee's knees, and that final boss was crazy epic. It was like Shadow of the Colossus but with bugs and guns!
This article is just about 100% worthless in terms of information.
Make them release this over here. All I need is some subtitles, really! Also, maybe be super cool and release 3 and Kenzan together, you know, for making us wait.
If I didn't absolutely abhor the graphics/art style. It has the look of some terrible flash game...
That being said, I'm a fan of the SRPG, so I'll probably buy it anyway.
Glad to see everyone (well save Wii owners...) gets to enjoy this one, as it looks pretty good. Now how's about Epic let's the incredible looking Shadow Complex come to PSN as well? Please? No? Awww....
Try doing what Dark_Vendetta outlined above. I had the same problem and it worked for me.
