There are plenty of people who would work for GameStops wages and employee discounts that can be polite and friendly. Its the manager of the store's responsibility to hire the right people.
My copy of Kingdom Hearts 3 is delivering from Amazon before I get home from work today. And I got it for 40.99 free tax and shipping. So I don't understand your misinterpretation of their marketplace. And its not and exaggeration, Im in the western suburbs of Illinois, and there are more GameStops than Starbucks out here.

R.I.P I will say that the company is terribly run from a management level. They hire mostly losers or social outcasts who don't smile or interact with their customers. I typically visit roughly 10 or so stores on average in my area, and only 1 has an outstanding manager who is personable and has hired a staff of like minded employees. This alone makes me avoid those other stores whenever possible. And forget the District Manager, the guy is a complete idiot.

Truth is, its inevitable. When netflix first came out, many people said it wouldnt take off. Now I stream all of my content from multiple providers on all TV's in my house, and dont use any disc players for Movies or TV Shows.
After killing off the Elite Pro membership, they can rot in hell.
I received $100 for my kids original Xbox One at Christmas time, traded toward a 1TB X1S with Battlefield V and $50 giftcard which was $229 at that time. Couldnt pass that up.
Considering you can burn and play every game free on CDR without modding its a good investment.
