How would the iPad rival the current gen consoles?! Apple can do whatever they want, when they want. Hell they now have more money than the whole of Poland for goodness sake! If they want to make a console, they'll make a console, if they don't, they don't. Plain and simple.
If anything, the iPad will still rival with the other handheld consoles, like the Vita, 3DS etc.
