@Orbilator In case you didn't know, eSports is a growing market. While CoD eSports is far from LoL, DotA, and CSGO, it is still something that someone can do full time. Plenty of kids aspire to doing that, and the console change really hurts a lot of those that bought an Xbox One and can't afford to buy a PS4 now. Although I'm on PS4, I don't have those aspirations of becoming a pro CoD player. Just because you don't care, doesn't mean no one cares.

It's hard to commit to a Nintendo home console because of the almost non-existent third party support. Buying any and every console I want isn't in the budget for the foreseeable future, so I'm left to make sacrifices. I'd love to play all of Nintendo's first-party greatness, but not at the cost of giving up first-party games for Playstation AND pretty much every third-party game to be created.

If Nintendo stopped trying to sell gimmicks, and made a consol...

But for those of us who have already played the games and possibly still own them on PS3, it is hard. Is getting only an upgraded version of three campaigns + Uncharted 4 multiplayer beta worth $60? I loved the stories of all 3, but I don't feel that it is necessary to play through for the ~4th time even with upgraded graphics. The multiplayers at least add more replay value, but since they're not included, it's more like do I want to pay $60 for the U4 mp beta?

I understand that what Sakurai thinks he is attempting to do is cater to both competitive and casual alike, but why would he intentionally sabotage the competitive scene in terms of gameplay mechanics (which is really what is most important to the competitive side)?

Take Melee for example. Simple to pick up and play casually while being difficult to master at the same time. The advanced mechanics of competitive play did not affect the goofy 4 person Free For Alls with your bu...

@Tempest317

Random elements are always best to avoid in competitive play of any game. Say you're playing, and an item such as a pokeball drops right onto one player, while the other player is on the other side of the stage. Inside the pokeball is the best pokemon possible, and it ends up costing a stock to the player who didn't get it. How is that fair at all, and how does that determine who is better (which is ultimately the point of high level play)? The only way it...

The back story of how Smash came to be is kinda ironic. Sakurai didn't approve of fighting games being super competitive, because he thought the competitors would make the community a "less friendly place," so he decided to attempt to create a fighting game that couldn't possibly be competitive. He ended up failing, and the competitive scene grew. But the ironic part comes into play when you look at the competitive scene vs the casual scene. Based on Sakurai's logic, the...
