At least releasing on xbla first means the devs get to keep rights to their hard work, as opposed to having SONY own all rights.

I think they should hold off on announcements until the game is months from completion. Forza 3 was announced a mere few months from release and look how well that game was recieved (sales wise for those that believe 2 years to create hype and pre orders is necessary).
This not to say that should the game NEED more polishing that they should release it anyway. Far from it. But don't announce a game and 3 years later we wondering if it still even exists, yes I'm looking at you...

PS3 is not successful. It still billions in the red. Has not yet made a profit. By that I mean it still has not recouped all its losses from launch.
Both Wii and X360 have made a profit for their respective companies. That for me is the business definition of success.

Microsoft have generated more money(profit at least) with X360 alone in the past 6 years than SONY have with PS3, PS2, PSP and VITA combined. COMBINED!!
The industry may have very well survived without it in the past but don't kid yourself, its ban would definitely hit home hard.
