I feel like Sony may be the in-between of Xbox and Nintendo, or very much already there.
I'm somewhat confident Xbox Series X this gen will have slightly better performing third party titles once its development ecosystem is fleshed out. Won't be anything as big as ps3/360 or Ps4/One though.
Nintendo, as always will kill it with their exclusives that can't be beat or found anywhere else - drawing an audience that is stable and loyal.

The original was 20 years ago, we can compare them both being linear but it's hardly a comparison for the same reasons. I mean, for all it's FMV and Materia, the gameplay then still sucked compared to what Zelda: OOT accomplished merely months later.
Hopefully part 2 nails a better open world than FF15 had. I was fond of it but was far from blind to all it's flaws.
Looks like those vaccines have had some unintended side effects.
PT was far from a generic horror game at the time. Like it or not, it captured a massive audience and has influenced the genre since.
Combat was great but game design wise it was nearly as bad as ff13 - just a much, much prettier hallway simulater when it came to gameplay.
Lets see what drips over from this onto SF6 when it rolls out on PS5. *sigh*
It's not always about the side content. GTA5's main campaign was paced quite well and kept the player wanting more.
RDR2 on the other hand has a solid beginning few hours and end few hours, but the middle of the main campaign was a bloated, poorly paced boring slug - and this is coming from someone who welcomed the slower pace to the game.
FF7R really stretched much of its main story (could have been 10-15 hours shorter), but unlike many other games, its side mission...
ALUMINIUM
Suits the genre though. Otherwise it'd be weird like hearing Jersey accents in a Rome era or French accents in a Cowboy Western.
This Launch has been crazy good compared to the ps4, if they can keep this up then this will be the next golden era no doubt.
What's the battery life on this thing though - that's the real question here. All great if it runs PC games quite well but what's the point if it lasts as long as a GameGear.
Everyone's avoiding this issue and it will be the killer.
Happy B'day DK! Wonder if this was ignored because unlike other Ninty properties DK has been outsourced for th longest time? Crazy to think though.
Meh, art books are cool but there's really nothing worth the extra cash here.
Looks like could be a lot of fun with its personality.
That logo looks much more like GO HO ME.
Looks a lot better than the previous mess that were released but still 2x as costly as this set should be.
They would make a killing if the bundle cost half as much as it does.
Somehow kept forgetting this last gen so super keen to get into it with these enhancements! Really looks like a memorable experience.
You are correct about letterboxing, but 1886 was actually running natively at this aspect ratio/resolution.
A game that did have letterboxing and was artificially cropped was The Evil Within/ Psycho Break. Gamers were not happy at all and they eventually released an update removing this - showing more of the level on screen.
This isn't possible with retail copy of 1886 as it is made from ground up to be a finished media with that frame size.
Watch them discontinue the original switch in a year.
