Re-Establishing THE DREAM
This post is somewhat of a personal reflecting...gonna be boring but nonetheless, I need this! :p
For the past week or so, I have been diving head first into the world of video games...from the industry to the games to the community itself. I discovered N4G at the PERFECT time in my bid to become not only as blogger and gaming journalist, but a member in an established community. This is, if anything, my blog home.
I am 26 and one half years old but a kid at heart. Just...a mature kid. I think. Anyhow, I have had a...erm...troubled past. It's taken me this long to rectify it and I won't bore you or myself with the details but, here I am 8 years after I SHOULD have been enrolled in college and pursuing my lifelong dream: to work in the field of video games. Yes, ANYWHERE in the field...
There isn't a word for my love of video games...perhaps a synonym of passion, obsession, and love all rolled into one word would suffice. As a teen, I knew I would become a game designer. Today, I'll be satisfied with being a programmer, though I have a few games in the old attic upstairs that I believe would be big sellers...and my trek begins with journalism.
I am truly blessed with this obsession though. Video Games, despite popular belief, ARE an artform. Nowhere else can you combine visual, audible, textual (is that a word?), and interactivity to create an experience that is LITERALLY otherworldly. I love video games and to those that care, you are witnessing the
beginning stages of what I believe with be a flourishing career in the field. Whether I am simply a journalist or whether I program that critically acclaimed best seller that I have so long WISHED to design, I am here, in this industry, to stay.
My "style" as a journalist is simple...I provide an interesting viewpoints and tackle subjects that are outside the box. No, not Xbox or even GameCube. I'm referring to the ever present yet infinitely elusive, proverbial box known as "the norm" and I especially enjoy thought provoking topics. I'll make you think. Don't believe me? See future blogs...The gaming industry's comfort zone has just been stretched a bit!
