Shelving Skyrim PS3

So, after quite a few hours invested in what is easily one of the best games I have played, I have to shelve Skyrim before I could possibly complete it. Lag isn't the only problem. Yes, I did do everything I could to minimize it, such as turning off the autosave. But lo, I got so immersed in the game I forget to save from time to time and I die. Then I have to replay the quest I was on. Many times it is my own fault. But once, I fell two feet off a porch and died inexplicably.

This coincided with two other glitches that really pissed me off:
1) The Ritual Stone, that I was using to great effect has disappeared from my Powers. Where did it go? Will it come back?
2) My shouts were all darkened (hell, 3 of them are darkened all the time as if waiting to recharge) and I hadn't used them in days.

Then there is the Fallout 3 lag. Yes. We had this problem with Fallout 3. The EXACT same Lag problem. How hard can it be to fix that. And here I was playing along ignoring the In My Time of Need quest that inexplicably can't be beat because I killed the main antagonist while his stamina was drained. His dead body wants me to talk to it.

So I sit here, with arguably one of the best RPGs in years, and it is unplayable. Goodbye, Skyrim, hopefully for a brief time, but probably much, much longer... I hardly knew ye.

I'm sorry to hear that. I guess your only options are to wait for a massive update to fix the issues or play it on an Xbox 360 or a PC.

dedicatedtogamers5148d ago

Other than the lag, 360 and PC (unpatched, unmodded) has all the same broken quest, clipping glitches, etc.

Valenka5148d ago

Well yeah, and the Elder Scrolls games have been known to have problems like that. You just have to take it with a grain of salt. Not to mention the fact that there are workarounds for broken quests if you look online.

StraightPath5148d ago

over 100 hours of play i have only encountered one glitched quest..thankfully there was a work around online. Cant remember the quest name.

I have it on PS3 and know exactly what you mean. The shouts that don't work even though you should be able to use them, the massive lag, the inability to create a new character without creating multiple save files for the first one because of the unavoidable autosave at the beginning that will overwrite your original file (there's actually two unavoidable autosaves, one is on a mission).

There is that one mission where you go to get the Helm of Winterhold or something and as soon as you enter the cave everything goes black and you can't do anything unless you make a save in that cave and reload. There's also the quests that never finish due to glitches such as the one in the college where you have to find the Archmage but when you do nothing happens and everyone acts like normal.

Honestly, how did this get released? I know the 360 and PC fanboys will try to come and say "well we have no problems" but that's B.S. because I can link you to sites that show that there are problems across the board. And still, what legitimate excuse could be made to say that it's the PS3's fault and not Bethesda's when Fallout 3 has the same problems?

Don't get me wrong, I love Skyrim. Any RPG where I can sneak up and one-hit kill an enemy is a damn good game to me. But the sheer multitude of glitches that won't get fixed (if you're to believe Bethesda's history with such things) is just wrong. Why did this console gen have to go the "release it and fix it later" route?

I actually have it for the 360. It's not as bug free on there as people let on. It's just a buggy game, period.

I am a PC gamer and there are problems with Skyrim. Not as bad as PS3 but enough. I play both versions. The PS3 version warrants a recall and Bethesda deserves a class action lawsuit.

Ok because I did some research on the matter:
a)there IS as a matter of fact a way to "bypass the lag".I have a save of roughly 11mb and the game starts lagging after around 4.5 hours of continuous gameplay. On the first hick up it has save quit the game from the xmb and reenter. Voila another 4.5 hours of continuous lag free play. It works like a charm for me so it should work for you.
b)The active effects not showing up is a well known glitch across all 3 platforms. Despite them not showing up they are as a matter of fact still active so don't let that bother you too much.
c)The dragon shouts not working properly is also one of those glitches but unfortunately I don't know any fix for this one.
Here visit this site for any help you might need

and let me know if it helped.

I have the game on PS3 and I'm 36 hours in. Where DO you guys find these problems?

TheComedian5148d ago

Too early once you hit the 65 hours 8mb save file limit then you'll see some real fecal matter.

thorstein5148d ago

All your shouts work? And you haven't lost any powers? No lag? Are you using the autosave? I am glad the game isn't a problem for you. But it is unplayable for me right now.

MidnytRain5147d ago

None of that. I get the occasional frozen-after-death Skeever and a bit of rare slowdown.

PCE5148d ago (Edited 5148d ago )

Disappointed with this console generation. Skyrim ruined it for me. I used to defend this generation when people bash it, I just can't anymore. It's shit. Video games are going down the same toilet with movies. Everything nowadays just suck. They're made for the lowest common denominator of gamers, and the games that are actually meaningful it's broken and virtually unplayable. Sad.

This (for both of your comments)

Not just games and movies, but music as well. But I pretty much know exactly what you're saying PCE. I used to attribute the fact that I couldn't enjoy games as much anymore as just me getting older, and maybe that is just slightly the case, but in general games are just going downhill.

City Tales: Medieval Era Review - Thumb Culture

"“Waaah, I am unhappy. My house is not studded with diamonds and my caviar is not covered in pure gold.” Let’s be real. We all played a city builder that feels like that. No matter what you do, your people are just so whiny and unhappy, even if they are well taken care of. Not in this game though! City Tales: Medieval Era puts a fresh, chill spin on the genre that both strategists and cosy gamers can enjoy." Charlie @ Thumb Culture

Why You’ll Love to Hate Styx

Not every hero fights for glory or is destined to save kingdoms. Not every legend is born from noble sacrifice. Some are forged in shadows, driven by selfish ambition, bad decisions, and an impressive lack of moral standards.
