Games, The Path Travelled

Long gone are the days when a game could be played and enjoyed for simply what it was. The schoolyard jesting of Sega Vs Nintendo, which in the end was never a serious matter.

When you grow up around games, some harsh truths are seen, the birth of the internet forum and websites has bred a new breed of “fanboys”.

It seems to be natural that through life and choice competition is bred, it’s true for all things. In most cases this is a good thing, it forces things to change and in cases improves things, though it can work to our disadvantage.

Is the competition between gamers on their preferred platform really set to achieve anything? From what you can witness it appears to be mostly hot air, a persons way to try and justify their purchase, lets face it everyone to some extent does this.

In the end what does it achieve? Gamers share an interest. It would seem odd people are in conflict because of a difference of platform they choose to play it on, does it not?

Gamers (not all) tend to moan (or in some cases laugh) when the world turns on them, with people blaming video games for its problems as well as questioning the maturity of those who play them, while it is fundamentally wrong. There is some truth in this.

Think about it, they see people moan and argue over “superior” games and platforms instead of maturely putting forward a point and leaving it at that, is it any wonder why as a group they are categorized as immature, and why the market (by view of some) as misconceived to be for kids?

Everyone is entitled to an opinion, its how you voice such an opinion and respond to other opinions as to how mature you are, and how seriously you can be taken as a gamer.

People need to remember as to what you believe and say is a matter of opinion, not always a fact. The sooner more people begin to understand this, the sooner people can begin to have real discussions about their interests, and tackle the real issues as well as fight off false perceptions of the gaming community as a whole.

What do you think? Is this even a problem? It would be interesting to hear other gamers thoughts on the matter.

To answer your question of "Is this even a problem?", of course there is going to be different opinions, but mine is: No, it isn't a problem unless you or someone else makes it one.

To expand a little bit, many people look to try and make 'problems' or 'issues' out of just about anything. Who knows why? Some do it just for fun or some do it because they have some insecurity they need to comfort. As you said, they sometimes feel the need to 'justify themselves', and put others down in order to justify their choice in something, in this certain case, games or gaming consoles. It is usually when another person takes it too personally in some form and feels the need to reply on the same level, that is when the fanboy stupidity comes in.

If you are among the more mature, you can just as easily overlook it and hope to find a decent discussion on whatever topic. I myself usually won't get involved in most 'fanboy' discussions or at least try to stay out of them. If anyone does direct some silly immature comment to me, I will usually answer as short and to the point as possible to be sure I am understood or just not bother answering at all. I have better things in life to waste time on, like games.

With fanboys: Best not to fuel the fire, it'll fizzle out pretty quick that way.

I agree, its better to avoid or respond as clearly as possible. Usually the first is preferable since at times its like talking to a brick wall.

I do see your point, it isn't really a problem unless you make it so, but there are situations in which even I myself find it difficult not to say something, generally only when they are influencing someones buying decisions based on false or inaccurate information.

I can definitely agree with you on that, especially if they are using false or inaccurate information. I find that to be pretty bad, and again, sometimes it is done intentionally so that person giving the false info can strengthen themselves on some level.

With that, there is a rare (and I do mean RARE!) case where I may speak up and try to straighten something out. But, there is so many ways to reference information nowadays, especially online, that if someone isn't smart enough to really put the time in and research their interest, then I say let it be, and move on.

There will ALWAYS be fanboys becuase people, by nature, like to argue. Some argue in a more civilized matter and some take it way too far. It's just how life is.

Not looking good. Hopefully Asha Sharma is able to turn Phil’s disaster around.

To me it's still quite remarkable how they can cash-in 5.3bn in revenue in a single quarter, since their hardware is basically dead.

The stock mark is what makes Microsoft remarkable, They have convinced every institutional and retail investor to just keep piling money into them. Like many big tech giants they are just a big growing pyramid scheme. As long as people keep dropping money into ETF's that cover the market Microsoft will always be liquid. At the same time it is completely stifling innovation and competition. People need to start being more discreet in how they invest their money as it's killing the system.

Once they re-evaluate exclusive all will be fine….

S2Killinit19d ago

Riiiiight because people will just flock back to them for one or two games per year.

Jingsing18d ago

15+ years of bad performance is what they call irreparable in business. It is time for them to sell off the assets and get out of entertainment.

Tanktopmaster9218d ago

These declines are on the back of extra revenue received from releasing games like Forza horizon 5 on PlayStation. So I’m being sarcastic here when I said they should go back to exclusives. Killing off a revenue stream from Ps5 sales will only make things worse
