Kinect is the future. Keyword here is future.

If you watched Iron Man then at least once you have talked about how cool his lab was in his house. Remember the screens that appeared in the air as hollograms and how all of his movements manipulated them? I do too and it was fricken awesome.

Two years ago Microsoft introduced us to their new controller. You. A camera that lets you control the screen with your body? What is this insane technology? Lacking. Now that it has launched most core gamers or people over the age of 15 will say the same. And why may you ask. Well let me tell you. The technology for it isn't there. Yes it works and it's simple but it hasn't been developed far enough to be useful in any way. Many people may disagree with me and even go as far as to say that This technology will die only to sit in the closet of thousands of gamers' homes. But it won't. You know why? Hollograms. Going back to Iron Man and his computer it was a hollogram. Imagine turning on your computer and surrounding you is all of your icons floating in a circle. You say open pictures but then you notice your pictures are too small so you open up your arms wide and make them look huge. Now would it be useful then? Hell yes. Would it be the coolest thing on the planet? Yes again.

So there you have it. The key to Microsofts success is to hold off. If they can make it so it was intuitive and broke the boundries of a standard television (even with 3D technology perhaps since hollograms are still a far off dream) then they'll have something really great. Untill then I don't think Kinect will be entering my home any time soon.

Kinect and 3d=WIN, closest we will see to getting hologram gaming for quite some time. The idea of using ur fingers to push what you want without a remote/move thingy is awesome. Ms need to work on individual finger movements so we could use it like an ipad so to speak or a mouse and keyboard. Right now theyre thinking full body motion but i want finger tracking which is adjustable so i can customise it to whats comfortable exc while sitting. Moving around is great (and the best way to play) sports, dancing, and workout games but not for real normal games i would like to see. Im waiting on a torchlight/diablo game where you point at the enemies and attack automatically with hotkey icons to "press" on the bottom of the screen, id get kinect for that. Its a bright future if they invest more r and d and think outside of the box.

They already have this hologram stuff in Japan. I think sony has a prototype that is touchable.

Well if you mean that you can touch the actual hologram and "feel" it, then you are mistaken. Holograms can never be like those that we see in Star Trek, simply because holograms are made out of light, and light cannot exist as mass and energy at the same time. E= mc^2 tells us that :P

But I am not saying that we will never have anything like the holograms in Star Trek, I cannot say if it is possible to manipulate mass to any shape like that :P
