People think that the Playstation 3(ps3) will not be as successful as the Playstation 2(ps2) was, but i believe that couldn't be further from the truth. Back in the days of the Nintendo(NES) and the Sega Genesis(SG), both Nintendo and Sega's consoles were based on their main franchises Mario and Sonic. And that trend lasted though both their consoles life span. Then came Nintendo's Super Nintendo(SNES). And still the trend continued and more third party support was being lost. In 1995, the second biggest console war began. Sony released the Playstation(ps1), Sega released the Sega Saturn(SS) a year later, follow by Nintendo's Nintendo 64(N64). Sega and Nintendo following the trend that they had gotten use too, basing their consoles off of the same franchise, Nintendo with Mario, Donkey Kong, Zelda and Sega with Sonic.Sony on the other was just getting started so they had not established a franchise for their console yet. The SS finally died and became a total failure do to poor game software and an expensive price, which left only the ps1 and the N64. The ps1 finally destroy the N64 do to the large amount to software gained by 3rd party publishers and the diversity of that software. And still Sony had not established one main franchise because the library of games on the ps1 was hough. Then came the third biggest consoles war, which started in 1999. Sega released the Dreamcast(DC), Sony released the Playstation2(ps2), Microsoft released the Xbox(xbox), and Nintendo released the Gamecube(GC). Once again Sega was destroy early on do to lack of funding and strong competition from sony. Nintendo once again following that same trend building their console around the same tired franchises Mario, Metroid, Zelda, and Donkey Kong. Microsoft, even though this was their first console, established Halo, and Sony once again choose not to establish a single franchise to define their console, because once again their library of games was on matched. Sony wins it's second console war enjoying two consecutive victories. Once again Sonys victory was do to a large library of software, the diversity of that software, and the includition of a dvd drive. Now we hit present day and the fourth biggest war has begun. Micosoft has released the XBox360(360), Nintendo released the Wii(wii) and Sony has released the PLAYSTATION3(ps3) (Sega got out to the console business and now only makes software). Microsoft followed the strategy of sega by releasing their console a year early with the thought of getting an early lead but in doing so they are plagued with faulty and outdated hardware, Nintendo finally took a different approach and focused on gameplay rather then graphics and now they are close to taking the lead from Microsoft. But the problem with this is games coming on the ps3 and the 360 make wii games look old and outdated. Still both Micosoft and Nintendo base their consoles on the same tired franchises. Sony on the other hand is in last place right now do to the ps3 high price and lack of defining games, but they don't seem to worried. For one the ps3 far surpasses the wii in graphical ability, has more reliable hardware then the 360, and has a more diverse library of games coming out next year then both Microsoft and Nintendo. I would say that the ps3 stands in the best position right now even though it doesn't seem that way now. Blu-ray is enjoying a good lead over hdvd and since every ps3 doubles as a blu-ray player that is an added bonus. Anyone of the consoles could win this time but from the look of things to come, the ps3 wins hands down. But only the future can tell if i'm right or wrong.

To me it's still quite remarkable how they can cash-in 5.3bn in revenue in a single quarter, since their hardware is basically dead.
The stock mark is what makes Microsoft remarkable, They have convinced every institutional and retail investor to just keep piling money into them. Like many big tech giants they are just a big growing pyramid scheme. As long as people keep dropping money into ETF's that cover the market Microsoft will always be liquid. At the same time it is completely stifling innovation and competition. People need to start being more discreet in how they invest their money as it's killing the system.
Riiiiight because people will just flock back to them for one or two games per year.
15+ years of bad performance is what they call irreparable in business. It is time for them to sell off the assets and get out of entertainment.
These declines are on the back of extra revenue received from releasing games like Forza horizon 5 on PlayStation. So I’m being sarcastic here when I said they should go back to exclusives. Killing off a revenue stream from Ps5 sales will only make things worse

Remember the massive margin of game sales between the PS2 vs the xbox1 and gamecube?
I don't think anything like that will happen.
Much of the reason why the xbox 1 didn't sell as well was becasue a smaller game library. The 360 even with its unreliable hardware has a fairly good library of high rated games. Granted the PS3 is gaining momentum(currently it appears to be reminiscent of the xbox 1, failure rate was failure low minus the powercord incident(the ps3s is extremely low), smaller game library but still some good games), and a year ahead of the PS2, but i digress.
I don't think the PS3 will be completely like the xbox1. Its going to have a lot more games and so will the 360.
As for the upcoming few years i don't know how the 360 will be toward the PS3, i kinda have a feeling Msoft has games up their sleeves including sequels to gears, mass effect(a lot of potential there), kotor 3 etc..
So i don't think there will be a 90 million console margin between the competition, but i think after a few years we will see sony as a winner.
Msoft this time around appears to have a much better software lineup than they did last generation. As for the hardware issues that may be fading(hopefully at least) away very soon what with the falcons soon coming out, and fixed(supposedly fixed) 360s.
Then there is the wii and well im not completely sure about how thats going to do.
Now as for graphics, i think after a few years we will see a greater margin on the PS3.

everyone knows the ps3 will will...just look at the features...a lot of people are in denial...it's gonna end up being the same thing from last gen...ps3 will come out on top....lets not get started with the games
