Lets talk RAGE!!!

ID Software, the giant behind masterpieces such as Doom and Quake, are releasing their newest IP, RAGE, on September 13th on PC, PS3, and Xbox 360. But will the game live up to today's standards after the company (ID) has been tucked away since Doom 3?

After watching almost every trailer/gameplay video on RAGE, the game is sure to impress, though there are some arising questions that leave me kinda worried about the game, which is what this blog is about (my 1st blog btw) Please note that some questions may be answered at E3 or in other RAGE footage, for now, its questions only about what we've seen so far.

So lets start with weapons:
ID has said their will be customization of weapons implemented into the game, however I have failed to see any "different" or customized weapons in the trailers. I hope they didn't mean customize by having just different ammo types or I'll be disappointed. Another thing I noticed is the lack of weapons, so far they have only shown 8 weapons (excluding grenades but including the blade thing) And from a game that is supposedly including some RPG elements, I'm hoping they have a lot more in store for us! The least they can do is have variations of those weapons like what Fallout did. I mean these are the guys that made the FPS genre, so plenty of weapons has to be a given, right? I sure hope so...

Enemies:
Is it me or do the enemies go down too quick? Especially the mutants. I hope they come in numbers then since I want each mission to last as long as possible but the way they plow through the enemies in the trailers has me "sorta" worried. Looks fun as hell though :p They seem to have a good variety of enemies too which is a plus, however is their any enemy that is NOT human like? Like did every animal just die off or something lol. I'm not asking for giant mole rats here but I mean it would be cool to face some kind of animal like creature, perhaps a giant tiger/lion that got infected/irradiated in a nearby zoo or something eh?

Open world-yness:
ID said the post-apocalyptic setting will be semi-open world, but how much can we really explore? Nothing says re-playability more than an open world, free roam environment, but to what I've seen so far from RAGE, you can only free roam in a set location. Dead City for example, only some parts will be explorable inside that set location, so "you can forget getting into that skyscraper and sniping innocent little mutants" is the kinda vibe I'm feeling from ID. Just wish they would expand that "set location" a little further.

Story: Will the story be compelling and memorable or will it be a given task to do something for each mission like in Dead Space 2? For a heavy focused singleplayer I sure hope it isn't the ladder!

Well anyways, that is my two cents on what ID needs to have in the game to get it from being a great game, to a masterpiece! Do you think ID software will deliver, or is it too much to ask?

It`s not ID`s character to make ''another fps'' !

lh_swe5494d ago

Then what was Doom 2 & 3, all the Quake itterations? Sure they started the ball rolling and did a great job of it, yet they haven't really done anything that breaks the moulds that they themselves set.
I have confidence in Rage being a great shooter, it might even set a new standard for perfection in certain area's, like AI, Graphics, level design, sound etc...However, I doubt they'll bring anything massively new to the table.

Even though I'd want a progression in the FPS genre akin to that of say Half Life 2's leap, I am fine with the games how they are now, I mean it's not like they're a deep philosophical thought provoking medium in the first place, it's just good ol' fashioned excessive violence.

Not on PC. On the PC version the game will be great and with awesome graphics, great gameplay(K/b) and mod support.

Consoles do not have any better graphics than MW2 and they do not get mod support so on consoles it is just "another fps". However, if the story is better than most fps then it is not just "another fps".

SweatyFlorida5493d ago

You must not be with the times, killzone 3 and Uncharted 2 blow MW2, even Medal of honor and Killzone 2 do. And RAGE will look the same across all consoles, even PC, so you can get of your high horse bud.

theonlylolking5493d ago

I was talking about MW2(PS3 and 360) do not look better or worse than RAGE({S3 and 360).

Obviously UC2, KZ3, KZ3, etc... blow MW2 away.

Just like what lareka said, it's not in their character to make just another "generic" FPS. I don't know if you've played any FPS games in your life but ID's FPS games were always the most memorable. Not just Doom 1&2 or the quake but as a whole imho. I know that they haven't really done anything revolutionary these past few years after the 90's but it's just a matter of time before the giant reawakens.

Yes lets talk about me. Oh wait........

Anyway....am i the only one that gets reminded of jack and daxter by rage, they have similar wastelands and vehicles. I also think it will have a similar open worlds to jak.

Is it still 60fps V-Synced on consoles?

I'm eagerly awaiting for rage, I hope it contains some rpg elements, I want it to be better than fallout 3.

SweatyFlorida5493d ago

Yes, their goal was to make it run 60 on everything and look the same on both console/PC. Though I don't necessarily agree with that, wondered what they could have done with the PC graphics like what Battlefield 3 is doing. But I hope RAGE beats fallout 3 as well :D Lets just hope it has re-playability like Fallout 3, pretty sure I had like 5 different games/saves on it :p

Solid Wolf5493d ago

To be honest, this is gonna be my very first post apocalyptic game! XD I've watched my friend play those Fallout and Borderland games but I never really got nito it. :P It just didn't feel so immersive to me because I didn't really like Fallout's graphics and physics. :P and it lacked that intense balls out action I was looking for in most games like Killzone 2. Borderlands on the other hand looked cartoony. I know that's the style they went for but I just never got into it :P But this game looks like it's gonna be the next great FPS by ID alongside the Doom, Quake, and Wolfenstein franchise. XD

SweatyFlorida5493d ago

Fallout was great though, you missed out lol But I think RAGE will be that perfect mix of intense action while keeping some other elements to make it unique. Just hope it makes a lasting impression on me like Half-life 2 did :/

Not looking good. Hopefully Asha Sharma is able to turn Phil’s disaster around.

To me it's still quite remarkable how they can cash-in 5.3bn in revenue in a single quarter, since their hardware is basically dead.

Jingsing30d ago

The stock mark is what makes Microsoft remarkable, They have convinced every institutional and retail investor to just keep piling money into them. Like many big tech giants they are just a big growing pyramid scheme. As long as people keep dropping money into ETF's that cover the market Microsoft will always be liquid. At the same time it is completely stifling innovation and competition. People need to start being more discreet in how they invest their money as it's killing the system.

Tanktopmaster9230d ago

Once they re-evaluate exclusive all will be fine….

S2Killinit30d ago

Riiiiight because people will just flock back to them for one or two games per year.

Jingsing30d ago

15+ years of bad performance is what they call irreparable in business. It is time for them to sell off the assets and get out of entertainment.

Tanktopmaster9229d ago

These declines are on the back of extra revenue received from releasing games like Forza horizon 5 on PlayStation. So I’m being sarcastic here when I said they should go back to exclusives. Killing off a revenue stream from Ps5 sales will only make things worse
