my friends 1st. 3 lights in less than a week. 2nd doesnt read disk it says "please insert 360 game" when hes tryin to play gears.

Hope mine doesnt do this im waiting for mass effect.

Portland, Oregon. I'm still on my first one and it's a little less than a year old.

Portugal,have it since december 2005, the only issues i have is that sometimes i have an error message on the screen saying it is unable to read the disc, to clean it up.And sometimes, very rarely, it freezes the game. Those are the only ones.i'm a feg, i didn't even got a scratched dvd,or a ring of death T_T, but my hopes are high.I will cry a lot when that happens, gonna have to sell my body to get the money for another one T_T

Norfolk (United Kindom) brought my system 21st October 2006, still works fine to this day.

not saying people dont, but i was told by my local retailer you need to keep it well ventilated and try to keep the powerbrick away from it. i have uploaded 2 pictures of my setup, and in the second pic you can see a gap under the unit, i managed to fit the powerbrick under it, my Xbox 360 is well ventilated and i havnt had a single problem.

Bought my 360 November 22nd 2005...Had it for 1 year and 3 months and the drive went out on me and stopped working.
My friend recently got the red rings after 6 months and he sent it in to Microsoft.
Other friend had the exact same problem I had with my first one after 3 months so he sent his in and got a new drive.

I own two 360's. One for about a year the second is the elite. Both are still used pretty regularly. I haven't had any problems.

I play with a group of 10 guys on Live pretty often. All live in Seattle except for one that lives in Colorado, and one that lives in Texas. Of the ten one is on his 3rd 360(Seattle). Everyone else is still on their first.

One other buddy who just bought his 360 in early April. Has the occasional problem when pressing the X button that shows the friends/message screen flyout during a game. It will occassionally hang his box and cause him to restart. I went over to his house and noticed that his 360 was on the floor next to his fireplace. He also had the tendency to leave it on for a days at a time( He would show away quite a bit in my friends dashboard ).

After I told him to get it off the floor in a well ventilated area and power off when he is not using it, the frequency of the problem has reduced dramatically. Although you shouldn't have to baby a consumer electronic so much, it does seem to help out with the reliability.

2 of the other ten also own 2 360's. So including myself that is 16 360's total, which includes the 2 defective units for my one friend I mentioned earlier. 14 out of 16 isn't great, but isn't too terrible. 2 of these units are launch units and both are still up and running.

I'm from Bedford in the UK, on my second 360 but the first only failed due to a power surge taking out my power brick entirely during an electrical storm which in turn blew something internally in my 360. Up to that point (when the console was about 7 months old) I'd had no problems with it, and still have no problems with my current 360, about 4 months old.

Knock on wood that's how things will stay.

My year old premium has the Samsung drive. Only problem so far is that sometimes it takes a couple of hits on the eject button to get it to eject.

The other problem is that I get a disk read error on the end of level 10 of Ninja Gaiden Black. It's after you have beaten the level and trying to load the next level. Unfortunately I can't save so I have to replay the last part of level 10 over and over. Could be the disk though since this the only game I have a problem with. I have been planning to start playing the game on my elite. Unfortunately I don't want to start the game over on my elite since I can't transfer the save with my memory card, so I have been a little unmotivated in testing this out. BTW I have problems reading the disk on my original XBOX as well. Using this as an excuse on why I need to buy Sigma for my PS3

My elite I got on elite launch day has the Hitachi. No problems of any kind yet but I was hoping it would have had the quieter drive.

It gave me the 4 red lights once then i turned it off and it never happend again, another friend his 360 scratches all his discs, and he was only a few days past the warrenty he got them down to 50% off the repair price yet he didn't take that hook, and is stuck with his current 360. all the rest haven't had any problems with their 360's.

two cores purchased at release; both had three red lights within days of purchase (one bought in Gainesville, USA and the other through Ebay when the first went kaphut).

Both replacements were new, sent with compensatory hard drives. One replacement with the ethernet port malfunctioning around July 2006, fixed and no issues since. Got a three rings of death on the second replacement about a month ago, haven't decided on fixing it yet (might spend the 130 bucks and the give it up to my brother).

Bought a 3rd 360, premium edition, last July in Gainesville also; no problems.

I have 3 friends out of my 32 that have had problems. Two with disc drive reading errors and the other with the three rings of red death.

I had an 360 Premium, bought from Costco, San Jose,CA. Sometimes around Holiday season 2006. In about a month, disk drive went bad. Returned without exchanging. Currently hungrily waiting for Elite and HALO 3.

I have 2 friend that have early launch XBOX360. Both were also bought from costco. All their XBOX 360 is still running fine up till now. Unlucky me.

Had Premium Xbox 360 for exactly 1 year now and only problems I had was with the Intercooler. It started getting very loud and then started causing the 3 red lights but as soon as I removed it the problem went away.

Still got my launch console!
And Ive been inside it bumpin around modding the case and adding some lEDS.. No Problems whatsoever.

i bought mine in spain the day it came available for purchas around xmas 06 and my dvd drive started making wierd scracthing npoises and scratching in inside of my discs even craked COD2 and stoped playing FNR3 but now im using it in scotland and its stop scratching discs but sometimes makes wierd scratching sounds (thats what it sounds like anyway) i dont know what is going on but ppl say that if u havent had red rings of death yet ur bound to get it il justy have to wait and see the warrenty has gone now and if it does screw up then i will cry for hours

Can't vouch for everyone else on my list but mine was well ventilated and the room was kept at 68 degrees F and i don't smoke. It would be nice if this would get Microsoft's attention. I hate that i'm going to miss out on some good games because of faulty hardware.

Tell me again how the multiplatform strategy was supposed to fix everything. Look at your results and compare them to Nintendo, which keeps thriving with exclusives. Your loyal fans are gone. And let’s not forget the pile of IPs you purchased only to let them rot.

The worst thing is this is down from last years numbers/expectations which was down from the previous years numbers/expectations. You think about how long “down” has been a consistent part of the communication and you realize those subscriptions are what’s holding that boat together. The price cut of gamespass is still a price raise in a string of price raises. They are trying to use players to offset the missing revenue. Now call of duty is out of gamespass, which is literally WHY they bought the company. To draw people to the subscription. They realized they missed a boatload of money and that wasn’t sustainable. Now you pay for it like you would have if they never bought the company… so why buy the company? Mind you those billions still need to be paid back. Yeah it gives you a chance to say we make the biggest FPS… but the internal conversations must be brutal at high level on topics that really matter. Like revenue. Profitability. And ROI for the shopping spree.
