According to Gamespy,February 2 marked the end of Xbox 360 warranties. In a recent call made to Microsoft support confirmation was made that warranties for launch day Xbox 360's has officially expired. What does this mean?
Moving forward, Xbox 360 users needing to repair their systems
which were purchase before the new batch of 360's will have to pay
$119. If your order is placed online it will cost $99. Unfortunately,
if your system fails twice you are looking at spending over $200 in
repairs, ouch!
Since it's 2005 launch, the Xbox 360 has ushered in some of the
most incredible gaming experiences around and let's face it, regardless
of the hardware issue many 360 users have stayed faithful replacing
there RROD systems for hopefully better ones, trying to hold on to
those great experiences only to sometimes run into to same problem. Now
that user will be financially responsible for repairs and the possibility of a PS3 price drop this could create a major shift towards the PS3 and eventually propel Sony's system forward in 2009.
Currently it is too early to tell but very soon there will be
thousands of Xbox 360 users who might be hit with the reality that it
might cost an additional $99 to $119 to experience Halo Wars, Street
Fighter 4 or Resident Evil 5. The PS3 will soon be offering blockbuster
exclusives in 2009 starting with KILLZONE 2 along with all the great
multiplatform titles soon to be released in 2009 and as most of us
know, patience is something we as gamers are very short of. Being hit
in the pocket only to have to wait for your system to be repaired while
fellow gamers are enjoying themselves is extremely hard to swallow.
Gaming is about the experience and we are not here to convince
anyone that one system is better than the next and to my fellow Xbox
360 comrades I really hope that you don't have to deal with this issue.
However because we know that we do not live in a perfect world, this
issue is inevitable to become a reality for many and the PS3 with all
it's advantages to possess will be waiting to offer you a nice gaming
peace of mind.

Interesting blog you have there, The way I look at it is.... If a persons 360 has lasted until now with no breakdown then I can see people forking out that $99 or $119 out just to play their games again. However if their 360 has broken down on them numerous occasions then I can see them going out to buy a PS3, and with a "rumoured" price drop coming soon (Notice I said rumoured) and the amount of presumably high quality exclusives coming out this year I can actually see people buying a PS3.
Just my old little theory!
