Raz Review: "Hideo Kojima has learned some lessons from previous
incarnations of MGS. While the 'one-way' map design has opened up into
multiple routes for objectives; there are still some frustrating minor
elements (Snake still can't perform some basic movements like jumping
unless in a context-sensitive area).
The cut-scenes are longer
than they should be; and while the familiar campy scripting is
endearing, it also contains way too much exposition. Not that it isn't
brilliant and entertaining, but I want to PLAY! (That being said, there
are some truly awe-inspiring fight sequences that shouldn't be skipped.
It's when Kojima tries to get all emotional that I start looking at my
watch.)
These are minor complaints, though, considering the
overall quality of the game; everything is beautifully crafted. This is
the experience of playing a movie. Even the load screens are nicely put
together; with friendly little messages like "It's after 3am. You've
been playing for 5 hours - why not take a break?"
You'll need that reminder, trust me. GTA4 set the bar for action/adventure games; MGS4 sets it for stealth/action."
