Make your own Video Gaming Website/Network?

Hey guys,

My name is Michal Birecki, owner of PS3center.net. Over the last 5 years, I've experienced so much as a webmaster within the video gaming industry and it got me thinking of the following...

If there's so many gaming enthusiasts in the world that actively participate on N4G, forums and various gaming journalism ventures, why aren't these users trying to create their own fame and success within the video gaming industry? Is it because of the lack of design and programming skills that some simply give up on the dream? Or is it because it's expensive to develop a system that would be your companion (website).

If there was a mainstream, easy and cheap way for users to make video gaming websites from top to bottom, would gamers jump on it?

As the website owner of explicitgamer.com I can tell you that the amount of time needed to run a website is much much more than most people are able to commit to any one thing.

Beyond that, there is the whole technical know-how of running a website. Either you're very familiar with web development (like myself) or you don't know anything at all. I know a lot of gaming blog owners that know nothing about programming or design yet they still manage to get by. They can't have all the "cool" features they would like to have, but that isn't really the point. Anyone is capable of installing wordpress, paying the $15 a month, and starting their own gaming blog.

There is also a lot of knowledge that you need to amass that is completely beyond your website itself. Marketing, PR, Internal Advertising, People Skills, Communication, Affiliations, the list goes on.

I see where you're coming from, but making a gaming website isn't something the masses can successfully handle. If someone wants to start a blog, I recommend going to blogger. If you want a real website, but you aren't willing to do all of what I just mentioned then I still suggest going to blogger.

As far as a mainstream and easy way to make gaming websites, that already exists. There are plenty of cheap/free and effective site builders out there. People don't know they exist so they don't use them.

Yes, I've been thinking about this recently and the main problem facing me is that I have no idea about any of it. I have no Web Design experience, I don't know how much it costs, how to set it up, whether you can make money with it(through ads) whether I'd have to hire anyone.

There's a big difference between just having a blog and having to worry about the time and money for a website. I'm still interested though.

I would be interested but like GUCommander said I don't have that amount of time to invest. I would rather find an already running site to write articles for as I am mostly a writer though I do have web developer skills.
I feel if I was just carrying along a site on my own it would atrophy fairly quickly.
Also There are already quite a large amount of gaming sites and I would generally prefer not to recycle topics. Which is fairly hard to avoid.

Not looking good. Hopefully Asha Sharma is able to turn Phil’s disaster around.

To me it's still quite remarkable how they can cash-in 5.3bn in revenue in a single quarter, since their hardware is basically dead.

The stock mark is what makes Microsoft remarkable, They have convinced every institutional and retail investor to just keep piling money into them. Like many big tech giants they are just a big growing pyramid scheme. As long as people keep dropping money into ETF's that cover the market Microsoft will always be liquid. At the same time it is completely stifling innovation and competition. People need to start being more discreet in how they invest their money as it's killing the system.

Once they re-evaluate exclusive all will be fine….

S2Killinit13d ago

Riiiiight because people will just flock back to them for one or two games per year.

15+ years of bad performance is what they call irreparable in business. It is time for them to sell off the assets and get out of entertainment.

Tanktopmaster9213d ago

These declines are on the back of extra revenue received from releasing games like Forza horizon 5 on PlayStation. So I’m being sarcastic here when I said they should go back to exclusives. Killing off a revenue stream from Ps5 sales will only make things worse
