My top 15 games of the generation. (9-6)

Here's a recap of the games listed from my last entry.
15. Tomb Raider
14. Xenoblade Chronicles
13. Dead Space 2
12. Batman: Arkham City
11. Final Fantasy XIII
10. Deus Ex: Human Revolution

Onto games 9 through 6 starting with....
----------------------------- --

9. Gears of War 3. *2011 Game of the Year*

I really enjoyed the ridiculously gory, action-packed gameplay that the first two games established, but Gears of War 3 really polished everything up and included an actual story that sort of made sense. Anyway, GoW3 was a blast from start to finish and I never wanted to put the controller down once I shot the first bullet. It's rare that I beat a game in one sitting but that's what ended up happening. The MP adds longevity to the game with a lot of depth. It was a complete package.
----------

8. Ni No Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch.

Ni No Kuni helped bring you back to a time when RPG's ruled the industry. Games like Xenoblade and this help proved that the genre is still a good as ever even if the demand isn't quite there. From start to finish you are completely enamored by the vibrant world, adorable characters, script, and a touching plot. Just a fantastic gem all around and a game every RPG fan should experience, especially if you enjoyed RPG's from the '90s. Oh yeah, one more thing…… Mr. Drippy has to be one of the greatest supporting characters in gaming history. He and Oliver make a great pair providing some heart-warming scenes that will make you chuckle. Proper right, mun!

7. The Last of Us. *2013 Game of the Year*

The year isn't over yet but I’m just going to go ahead and crown TLoU as my GotY. The game, technically, is ridiculously smooth. I encounter no glitches, bugs, drops in framerate, or anything of the sorts to hinder my experience what-so-ever. It’s one of the most polished games I’ve played and that's a testament to the kind of developer Naughty Dog is. As for the actual game, it’s really a unique experience that takes an old post-apocalyptic concept and makes it completely fresh with outstanding storytelling, atmospheric sound design that wasn't omnipresent, fantastic acting, and the relationship between the main characters. I feel I have to mention the Giaffe scene somewhere. For a moment you are taken out of a cruel world and enveloped in a touching scene. It was very powerful.
----------

6. Red Dead Redemption.
Just outside of the top 5 is Rockstar’s greatest game. Better than all the Grand Theft Auto’s (that includes IV and V), better than Max Payne, and better than LA Noire. RDR takes you on a horseback ride through the Wild, Wild West where Will Smith and Sisqo are….ok, I’ll stop. John Marston is an awesome character even though he has a rocky past. He is loyal to his family and willing to do anything for them. It gives his character depth, it makes him worth caring about, and it drives the narrative. It also has one of the most amazing endings in a video game. The execution was brilliant.

Next up is the start of my top 5 (5 through 2) favorite games from generation 7. Thanks for reading!

Should've checked GameStop during Black Friday. I picked it up there for $40 (usually $60)

Gamestop has it at around $60. It's listed Used but should be in good quality

So glad Ni No Kuni is up there, honestly one of the most underrated games of 2013. Really hope the rumor about Ni No Kuni 2 for PS4 is true.

Couldn't agree more, one of the most charming casts in a video-game, and who couldn't possibly love Mr. Drippy.

Gears of war 3's mp was really good, but it's campaign was downright bad.

coolbeans4536d ago

Saying Gears 3's campaign was downright bad was the reason I respectfully disagreed.

DestinyHeroDoomlord4536d ago

@coolbeans: Fair enough, I bought an xbox because of gears of war 2. Which I played for an extremely long time (offline). When I heard about gears 3 I immediately held it to the standard of gears 2, which I felt nailed everything from sp to mp. So when I first got gears 3 and put on the sp, I was disappointed to say the least. The game had improved upon almost everything from gears 2, but failed in its campaign apart from a handful of moments.

**SPOILER WARNING**

I can agree that Gears 2 campaign had many more cool ideas presented: the setup of burrowing into Locust hive, the GIIIANNTTT WORMM, razor hail, the idea of human researchers creating their own beasts, the panoply of different gameplay mechanics being used, and more memorable moments. At the same time, 3's seemed a bit more consistent to me: didn't have that disappointing boss fight like Skorge or any terrible melodrama moments.

To me, the story was alright and actually had the gall to feel like an actual conclusion (can you believe that? :P ) and everything just felt so polished.

Not looking good. Hopefully Asha Sharma is able to turn Phil’s disaster around.

To me it's still quite remarkable how they can cash-in 5.3bn in revenue in a single quarter, since their hardware is basically dead.

Jingsing14d ago

The stock mark is what makes Microsoft remarkable, They have convinced every institutional and retail investor to just keep piling money into them. Like many big tech giants they are just a big growing pyramid scheme. As long as people keep dropping money into ETF's that cover the market Microsoft will always be liquid. At the same time it is completely stifling innovation and competition. People need to start being more discreet in how they invest their money as it's killing the system.

Tanktopmaster9214d ago

Once they re-evaluate exclusive all will be fine….

S2Killinit14d ago

Riiiiight because people will just flock back to them for one or two games per year.

Jingsing14d ago

15+ years of bad performance is what they call irreparable in business. It is time for them to sell off the assets and get out of entertainment.

Tanktopmaster9214d ago

These declines are on the back of extra revenue received from releasing games like Forza horizon 5 on PlayStation. So I’m being sarcastic here when I said they should go back to exclusives. Killing off a revenue stream from Ps5 sales will only make things worse
