PlayStation Magazine

Before I begin I would like to say that if you do not own a PS, 2, 3,  P, or are not thinking of buying this article won’t be much value to you. It might be if you own an X-Box, 360.

When I got my first issue for subscription I was impressed. I’m writing this now because if you own a PS, 2, 3, P, or are thinking of buying a PS, 2, 3, p, I highly recommend getting a subscription. To those who own an X-box this might be of a little value because a lot of the stuff doesn’t just speak about the PS3. Of course you could buy whatever magazine they have for X-Box, but I don’t know how good that is. To those who own just a nintendo product your options are: go get a subscription to Nintendo Power, buy a PS, 2, 3, P, or X-box, 360, or stick nails through your eyelids and jump off a tall building, because we don’t have crap for you. Your to different from PS3 and X-box. (No offense meant or over enthusiasm)

This magazine makes it so everything is interesting to read. Even if the game is crap the review will still be pretty good. The good part is that these people have yet to sell out to big companies. So the reviews will be good to read but still might have a bad rating. Reviews are not the only thing; in fact they only make up a small portion of the magazine. They are located towards the back, and the longer reviews which are usually good ones towards the front.

Other things that make it enjoyable are: the hint of humor throughout the entire magazine, and the smaller side articles they have. Like the top 10 list and in my latest issue Top 7 bad guys you didn’t want to kill, that was also funny.

A lot of big articles in each magazine are about upcoming games, and they stuff those full of all sorts of things. Like information on the game that the editor during his interviews pried from the game designers, and improvements. Also there are the expectations, information on graphics and game play.

As in all magazines there is advertisement but in this one it doesn’t make it seem like a waste of paper. When your reading a magazine which you enjoy you will often find advertisements that the people who get the magazine won’t even kook twice at. This is so because why would people who are looking through a wrestling magazine want to buy a collectors edition 3 disc set of Star-Trek? This kind of goes back to my point earlier. They have yet to sell out. The few advertisements they have are about things gamers are interested in. That’s how I learned about N4G anyway.

The whole thing (as I’m sure you’re sick of hearing by now) is interesting, and I recommend checking it out. So if you find a place that has it buy the latest issue and see if you like it, if you do order a subscription. Remember after you see if you like. I don’t want a bunch of complaints saying it was a waste of money.

"stick nails through your eyelids and jump off a tall building, because we don’t have crap for you" Flamebait much? How about just "this isn't for you" or something like that?

You not only make ginormous spaces, you also hit tab at the beginning of every single paragraph. As the audience, I'd like to tell you that it looks ugly.

I've been buying these magazines (Playstation: The Official Magazine) since the first issue. I've been going to Barnes and Noble and other bookstores to buy the magazine every month, but I recently just subscribed to the magazine a few days ago.

The main reason why I subscribed to Playstation: The Official Magazine is because I was subscribed to the other Official Playstation magazine for YEARS during the entire PS2 lifecycle, but older Official Playstation magazine had it's last issue in late 2007 and it was discontinued, so I just had to subscribe to another Official Playstation magazine.

I'm also subscribed to EGM magazine as well, and I really like Playstation: The Official Magazine too. And I found out about N4G through Playstation: The Official Magazine too in a advertisement.

So, December 2006 I bought this magazine's first issue, and had subscribed in the second issue in ... Feburary I believe. Up to issue 11 I loved the mag, and was sure to re-subscribe. From here though, things went downhill quickly and I've now cancelled my subscription and will now not buy any other issue.

The problem began when they reduced the physical size of the magazine relatively drastically, yet kept the same price and page numbers. I was annoyed, yet still happy with the quality of writing. However, over the next 5 - 6 months or so, the quality of reviews, previews and general PlayStation news decreased hugely in my opinion.

The last straw was when they reduced the number of pages in the magazine by 15. They started this at Christmas 2007, but then went back up to 129 pages (still not a great number anyway). Since then, they reduced the number of pages to 114 once again, and then decided to keep this pattern and always have a measly 114 pages, with an increased number of around 15 full page adverts as well. Still whilst keeping the excessive 5.99 cover price, and the totally unnecessary Blu-Ray demo disc, where every demo on it is at least 2 months behind being on the store - a complete waste of money!

In conclusion, if you're thinking of buying this magazine ... DON'T! The quality of writing was continualy decreasing, along with mag size and number of pages. I really am dissapointed that an 'Offical' magazine would be this bad.

I was a reader of OPM since the very FIRST issue with Ghost in the Shell for the PS1 was on the cover.

OPM was awesome!!

Then I started to get PSM which was also awesome! They each had their own styles and humor it was just great.

BUUUT for some reason some douche bag decided to discontinue BOTH and create PTOM.....It is OK, but damn...compared to the old mags, this new one sucks....and I really dont like the people that work on it...and I am talking about the US mag

Not looking good. Hopefully Asha Sharma is able to turn Phil’s disaster around.

To me it's still quite remarkable how they can cash-in 5.3bn in revenue in a single quarter, since their hardware is basically dead.

Jingsing23d ago

The stock mark is what makes Microsoft remarkable, They have convinced every institutional and retail investor to just keep piling money into them. Like many big tech giants they are just a big growing pyramid scheme. As long as people keep dropping money into ETF's that cover the market Microsoft will always be liquid. At the same time it is completely stifling innovation and competition. People need to start being more discreet in how they invest their money as it's killing the system.

Once they re-evaluate exclusive all will be fine….

S2Killinit23d ago

Riiiiight because people will just flock back to them for one or two games per year.

Jingsing23d ago

15+ years of bad performance is what they call irreparable in business. It is time for them to sell off the assets and get out of entertainment.

Tanktopmaster9223d ago

These declines are on the back of extra revenue received from releasing games like Forza horizon 5 on PlayStation. So I’m being sarcastic here when I said they should go back to exclusives. Killing off a revenue stream from Ps5 sales will only make things worse
