Final Fantasy XIV and my serious problem

First of all it's on the PC straight away for $74.99 and yes I have to get the collector's edition. If I do not get the collector's edition and really love the game and play it for years. I'll be real upset with myself. Plus I need that Onion Helm and whatever other goodies it comes with.

The Benchmark test: I recently ran the benchmark test, but before I can tell you my results let me share a few tidbits with you. I had to re-install an older version of DirectX to just run the benchmark. Wtf? Then it ran smoothly, but my score well was below the minimum. Maybe because my computer was running an older version of DirectX? My computer is brand new, I have a video card that I bought this year for like $200. It should work right?

What if it doesn't? My computer is how I work[attempt to make a living], I can't work[attempt to make a living] all morning and then have an all night pwnfest on the FF14 and run my computer for 20 hours a day. That shit will fry. Then I'll be addicted for sure by that point, with no FF14 and now no computer to work[attempt to make a living]. So that's that problem. Solution ... be prepared to upgrade.

Waiting for the PS3: Wait until March? Are you crazy? Don't forget about the Onion Helm. Oh and there's the 6 month headstart the rest of the Jimmys will get on you. This time around, I want to start at the very beggining with everyone else.

Backwards compatible PS3: I have one of those rare PS3's that is backwards compatible and is worth thousands according to Ebay. I don't really want to break that either. The current plan is to buy it for the PC and try to control myself. Then when March rolls around, buy another, yes a second PS3 just to play FF14.

I was super addicted to Final Fantasy XI and I know I will get hooked on this one fo sho. The game looks amazing, there are no words for the beauty of it. The Making of a realm vidoc series is absolutely mindboggling. When I think about the jobs and the world and the monsters. It's without a doubt I'm going to get lost with this game.

Estrada says he is getting this game. Gorilla Warbear is still playing FF11 because he was hoping for a Beta key for FF14 or to get something when FF14 comes out. Well he's gonna get something, but I don't care too much for it. Hermes’ Shoes. “Named after an elder god, all but forgotten in the modern age, these gold-tipped shoes have been crafted with the lightest of leathers, making them optimal for use by heralds and noterunners.”

We've already touched on setting up our squad and putting ourselves in different roles for crafting and fighting. This is not good, I'm already drawing charts in bed at night before I go to sleep. I can't stop thinking about which way I want my character to go.

I can't even decide if I want to be a little Jimmy(Lalafell) or an Elf Jimmy(Elezen.) I was a little Jimmy in FF11. I don't want to be a human or the big Gorilla Warbear looking thing. The elves look cool, but I don't know what job I would focus on. At least the little Jimmys look cool doing anything in the game, so I'll probably pick one of them. So then it's decided. I'll a "Lalafell" in FF14.

As far as Jobs go forget about it. I have no idea. I might just level up all different kinds at the beggining. It depends on how many friends I have and if we are actually leveling up together to go do missions and stuff. I like healing, because I don't trust anybody else doing it. I will most definitely choose a trade that will make a lot of money, like medicines or food. Consumable items are the way to go.

It's official, I'm going to pre-order the Final Fantasy XIV. I'm going to promise myself to not let it get out of hand. I can not break my PC, must survive on it until March. Lalafell healer/thief and cooking/medicine master! Look for me when the game comes out. Want to get on the same planet with me? Leave a comment and lets start the Gouki Guild! Don't be a Jimmy!

My computer can run any game at max on my 42'' at 1080p, even crysis. I ran the benchmark it ran fine, but it said my score was very low? I'm sure it has something to do with DX or something because there is no way I will be running that game at low haha.

goukijones5735d ago

We'll find out soon enough with the open beta starting next week.

Reibooi5742d ago

Ok guys I will give you some info on the horrible Benchmark.

Don't EVER care about the score it gives. It's pretty much always wrong. A friend of mine ran the benchmark and he failed it(it didn't even give a score) but here is the kicker. He is in the beta already and can run the game a little higher then default settings.

If that isn't enough for you I have read about some guy that ran the benchmark and got 8000(highest score) and the game would not run for him once he got into the beta(seeing as I don't know this guy i can't confirm if it's true)

So basically the benchmark isn't worth relying on(kinda)

Even though the score is messed up the benchmark itself is still helpful. The best thing to do is compare your system specs vs those that SE has listed on the official site. If you think you can run the game download the benchmark and run it. Ignore the score. Simply watch the scenes and see how it looks. Does it have a good frame rate? Does that frame rate dip when stuff like Rain and Fog is on screen? Does it take longer then it should to load between scenes? Does the character voices and sound effects line up with who is saying/making them? Based on all of these you can get a idea of how your PC will run the game.

If it looks like your PC is running the benchmark fine then chances are you will run the final game without problem regardless of the score you get. Countless people who are in the beta have run the benchmark and a good percent of them have either scored very low and failed it outright and yet they are playing the game right now.

So short and sweet. Check your system specs vs the game specs on the official site and run the benchmark and watch. Ignore the score and you should be fine if everything looks good.

I'm not worried. My benchmark ran fine. Computer expertise says that the game will run fine too. Although I will upgrade whatever I have to, when the time comes.

Thanks Jimmy. I'll check it out.

I think a bigger issue outside of worrying if your computer will run it, is the possible flaw in the game's design. I'm in the beta right now, and have already seen it.

First off, your physical level and your rank (job) level are separate this time around. What does this mean? This means that you are granted 6 points for attributes, and 6 points for resistances when gaining a physical level, and granted new abilities when gaining a rank level. But what is the point of having separate levels, when you can switch jobs? This defeats the purpose of point allotment, since you're now forced to be proficient in a single category. Lets say I stack my points in STR, VIT, and DEX so I can be a proficient melee job. What happens when I want to play a mage job such as the conjurer? I'm going to be terrible at it, simply because they decided to split your character's progression. What's this!? You can reassign points to categories! This solves everything! Oh... we're only granted 12 points for reassigning? How useless. And if they wanted us to balance the points out, then what's the premise of having point allotment in the first place?

Reibooi5741d ago

Personally considering the game is still in Beta I wouldn't judge half of the leveling systems as there is like a 95% chance they will change in some way before the game is out.

Not to mention I don't see much issue with what you are complaining about anyway. Most players(not all but most) will either choose to be a Melee or a Mage and very few of them cross over into the other side. Having played FFXI since launch I can tell that the vast majority of my friends online either played all mage jobs or all melee job and only very few of them crossed over to play the other side and those that did only did so to obtain maats cap(a very powerful item which requires you to level most of the jobs to a certain point).

SE has said in countless interviews that you will be able to competely reallocate your points for your stats and resistenaces. If it's not like that in the game currentely it's safe to say the reason why is becuase it's the beta and things will obviously change come the final version.

Judging the game for minor issues like this while it's in beta is pointless. A massive amount of stuffed had already been changed from the Alpha to the beta and from the closed to open beta will usher in even more changes and again from open to final retail release.

Arnon5739d ago (Edited 5739d ago )

It's in phase 3 of the beta, and releases in less than a month and probably goes gold within the next couple of weeks. The beta ends in the next couple of weeks. There isn't much you can change at this point.

Also, how could you not see the issue in this? I have people who hated FFXI and wont even touch FFXIV, but even they're able to see such a glaring flaw. What's the point of giving us the ability to change jobs on the fly, if 70% of the jobs available will be useless?

"SE has said in countless interviews that you will be able to competely reallocate your points for your stats and resistenaces."

Trust me, it's not happening. And if it is, it's going to be some silly mechanic where you only get back 12 points every 12 hours, which defeats the purpose anyway. Let alone, why give us these points in the first place if all we're going to be doing is constantly reallocating them? Hello... that's called a flaw. And like I previously stated, is pointless.

No, this is not a minor issue. In fact, it's a purchase decision issue, especially if we only get one character slot. This is a flaw in the game's design. I've been a part of FFXI for around 6 years, and I'm not going to shove my head in sand and ignore such a stupid decision.

Also, there probably wont be an open-beta if it continues like it does. The game is releasing on the 22nd, and the beta ends on the 14th I believe. You cant exactly release a beta for a product that goes gold. Otherwise, it wouldn't be gold. :)

i think the game is not yet optimized as its in the beta phase, i got GTX 480 and it uses like 99% of the cards power + it lags like hell "lags not network issues" just wait till the game launchs and nvidia or ati will surly release an updated driver to optimize it for us, then we will have better FPS hopefully, ill not judge the game while its on its beta phases at all nether the misleading benchmark.

Not looking good. Hopefully Asha Sharma is able to turn Phil’s disaster around.

dveio11d ago

To me it's still quite remarkable how they can cash-in 5.3bn in revenue in a single quarter, since their hardware is basically dead.

Jingsing11d ago

The stock mark is what makes Microsoft remarkable, They have convinced every institutional and retail investor to just keep piling money into them. Like many big tech giants they are just a big growing pyramid scheme. As long as people keep dropping money into ETF's that cover the market Microsoft will always be liquid. At the same time it is completely stifling innovation and competition. People need to start being more discreet in how they invest their money as it's killing the system.

Tanktopmaster9211d ago

Once they re-evaluate exclusive all will be fine….

S2Killinit11d ago

Riiiiight because people will just flock back to them for one or two games per year.

Jingsing11d ago

15+ years of bad performance is what they call irreparable in business. It is time for them to sell off the assets and get out of entertainment.

Tanktopmaster9211d ago

These declines are on the back of extra revenue received from releasing games like Forza horizon 5 on PlayStation. So I’m being sarcastic here when I said they should go back to exclusives. Killing off a revenue stream from Ps5 sales will only make things worse
