VGX: Video Games Xpected dissapoints.

You ain't gotta like it, but Geoffy gonna hype it!
Expect the Expected and watch the VGX.
Both are plausible, which ones can you come up with?

If you watched the VGX or have even seen recent threads about the topic, you'd know that it was a complete waste of time and hype from Geoff Keighley.

The show had a shitty format, low production values and sad excuses for 'World Premieres' and demos. Not to mention the horrendous hosting from Geoff Keighley and Joel McHale. Why did McHale keep making crusty jokes about Geoff wearing layers? It was cold Joel! Is that so hard?

We all know no one watches the VGAs for the awards. They watch it for the exclusive game announcements and trailers. Somehow, the VGX was worse than the VGAs in this department.

Quantum Break got more of a developer interview than a gameplay reveal. We got about 10-15 seconds worth of gameplay throughout the whole thing.
Tom Clancy's: The Division got a tech demo. A Tech demo.
Don't get me wrong. The caliber of the lighting and physics really show that it is one of the first true next-gen games, but I wanted to see gameplay. Not just particle effects.
The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, got a pretty short trailer. Most of it was just an in game cutscene. So much for awesome new World Premiere right?
Tomb Raider The Definitive Edition got revealed. Like that wasn't leaked via Amazon hours before the show.
Tales from the Borderlands. Um... no gameplay dudebro!
A demo of Dying Light from Pewdiepew... really Geoff? Is Spike that broke?
The Destiny trailer was a joke. It was literally a compilation of clips from trailers that we've already fucking seen!

And of course, probably the biggest disappointment of the show took place when none other than Reggie Fils-Aime walked on stage.
Who decided on this? Who thought it was a good idea to get Nintendo to go to the VGAs for the first time, hype it up with the Dewrito King on Twitter and then reveal Cranky Kong for Donkey Country Tropical Freeze, yet another 2D platforming game from Nintendo? Why even set foot on that stage if that's all you have to show? They really don't get that the VGX audience doesn't really want to see 2D platformers. I'm not saying it's a bad game, but that's just how it is. Just Saiyan. Why pay loads of money for Bayonetta 2 and not even market the damn thing?

As you can see, many of these 'World Premieres' and announcements were pretty frickin' bad. Geoff's Twitter hyping really didn't help though. Didn't he say both Sony and MS had loads to show? But that's not all.

As well as getting Youtubers to do videos for them (Mega64 was hilarious though), the format and production values sucked big time. They abandoned the live audience to make things very awkward and damn. That hosting sucked.

The hosting from both Geoff Keighley and Joel McHale was terrible. Keighley was making redundant small talk with the devs for double the amount of time than one of the world premieres took up and McHale was making stupid sex jokes, off color suggestions and driving Geoff insane. He didn't seem to know that much about gaming and soon enough, he just stopped caring.

I did like how he pointed out how boring and bad the format of the show was. To be honest, it looked like an extended episode of one of those cheesy ass game shows. The humor was also terrible and forced.

This event was borderline terrible. You would think that Spike would have the common sense to make a serious gaming event, but no. Barely any interesting game reveals and it was way too long.

And then you get what you get from every dude bro event. A concert with generic music that really has nothing to do with the games. We didn't want 20 minutes of music from a bunch of dudes who think they're RockStars (pun intended), we want to see the games. Those artists really sucked cock and donkey balls. This is not the Grammy's! We're not talking about music.

Somehow, Geoff Keighley hyped it up so much that many people had higher expectations and some people who knew that the show was gonna be bad watched it anyway.

I don't think I'll ever watch the VGX again, unless I want to laugh at this mess. Personally, I think that E3 2013 was the extremely major gaming event that wasn't mediocre. Every year, this show gets worse.

So, thank you for reading this post. What do you think should happen in 2014. Should they continue the VGX? Should they cancel it and make a serious event for games? Or should E3 be the only major gaming event from now on? Sound off in the comments.

There are currently 3 VGX related blogs, I just finished writing mine. Good luck to all the blogs.

VGX was just horrendous. It's a joke really. No one ever takes the VGAs seriously anymore because of how terrible they ALWAYS are. I find it amazing how anyone can get something as simple as a Video Game Awards show so wrong year after year after year.

Not looking good. Hopefully Asha Sharma is able to turn Phil’s disaster around.

To me it's still quite remarkable how they can cash-in 5.3bn in revenue in a single quarter, since their hardware is basically dead.

The stock mark is what makes Microsoft remarkable, They have convinced every institutional and retail investor to just keep piling money into them. Like many big tech giants they are just a big growing pyramid scheme. As long as people keep dropping money into ETF's that cover the market Microsoft will always be liquid. At the same time it is completely stifling innovation and competition. People need to start being more discreet in how they invest their money as it's killing the system.

Once they re-evaluate exclusive all will be fine….

S2Killinit2d ago

Riiiiight because people will just flock back to them for one or two games per year.

Jingsing2d ago

15+ years of bad performance is what they call irreparable in business. It is time for them to sell off the assets and get out of entertainment.

Tanktopmaster922d ago

These declines are on the back of extra revenue received from releasing games like Forza horizon 5 on PlayStation. So I’m being sarcastic here when I said they should go back to exclusives. Killing off a revenue stream from Ps5 sales will only make things worse
