Well nothing happened, the game came out and guess what, it’s not that bad.
I’ve been playing now for 2 days and it’s been a blast, are the graphics good, sure they are, the interior on the cars looks amazing, these low reviews are crazy. I mean the level of detail here would make GT5 look like an Atari 2600 game… LoL
Ok maybe not that dramatic, but the game looks good. the interiors are really done well, out of this world. Detail is awesome. Cars really look nice, and close up the detail is crazy.
How does it play, kinda like Need For Speed, or Project Gotham Racing, if you ever played those games, not too real but not too fake either, has a nice balance with the focus on fun to play.. It’s fun and has some nice tracks and good difficulty. Is it the new GT6, no of course not. its’ a fun little racing game nothing more nothing less.
So what’s wrong, well to be honest, your expectations is what’s really broke, not the game.
You know it’s funny but some people may have forgot DriveClub was suppose to come out a year ago. It got delayed, but it’s here now. And maybe in that time the hype or expectations went through the roof. That’s really sad, but that’s not the game’s fault.
It’s just a game people, it was never meant to cure cancer and by that I mean fanboy’s are flaming it, but come on’ it’s so unfair because the bar that the game set for itself is one thing. But the bar people have made in their heads is just crazy. All the comparisons to Forza horizon, really an open world game / that has been out for years. Or GT5 a game with an insane car list, and a game that has been getting better and better every year it comes out. They have the luxury of learning from their old game, and improving on that code.
It’s ok I don’t blame you if you have to compare them, but let’s be fair, and let’s remember something, no one said it was going to be the next Forza, or GT5, it was designed to be in it’s own lane as a fun to play racer, with really nice graphics. It delivers that. Nothing more nothing less.
First let me say I can’t get online because servers are down, so game could be even more fun, I just don’t know because online is down, which is funny because this is a social game, and it uses servers for a lot of things in the game -- the club, the character creation. -- why I need to be online for that, I don’t know but that’s how the game is.
I bought the full version, and I have been unlocking cars in the single player, and it’s been a blast. Game get’s harder as you rank up, supercars are just hard as hell to get good at, but I’m loving every minute of it. It will take awhile to master, but it’s fun even when I lose and have to come back and try a track again. Can it be improved sure, and I think it will get better feel and handling for supercars in an update. -But it’s still good right now.
It looks exactly like the youtube videos, so if you have watched enough of the actual gameplay videos in HD then you have a really good idea of how it looks, and it plays good too. it’s not a sim, it’s an arcade racer.
I think it comes down to this, it’s how you look at the game, you either wanted the next GT5, and if so then this is not your game, or you wanted a fun racer to play in between other games you like. Then enjoy, because it’s good racer, that’s fun to play.
I think it will get better with time, this is an amazing start, and I like it, if you like racing games you will enjoy it, and only if you expectations are reasonable. Go in with an open mind, for race fans it’s a must have for the collection. I’m very happy with my purchase, I got the digital for $49 and I love the game. Having a lot of fun, taking a small break from Destiny. The Plus got delayed but once you play it, I think you will find you end up playing it more than you thought you would. it’s fun to play and at the end of the day, that’s probably going to be more important than anything else the game does well.

Richard Bailey Jr. of The Koalition writes: Mouse: P.I. for Hire is a game I’ve been watching since it was originally revealed in 2023. After studying 2D hand-drawn animation in college, I respect this medium and understand the time commitment required to master it. This is exactly why this ambitious title piqued my interest.
Here's what happened, people want to continue to talk mainly just about the graphics. (some are complaining about the jaggies and AA though).
The ai is questionable, the content is questionable, the physics and gameplay is questionable and it's very questionable if you can even get online.
You would think a game that was marketed for it's PS Plus would not have that feature pulled because of online issues. A game that is centered around being online too. Especially one that was delayed by a year. But just like the game Destiny things will get better over time.

You're right, they said Forza Killer. Doesn't look like that's the case, kind of like how Killzone was supposed to be a Halo Killer. Unless of course they mean sales then it is very like this will outsell both Forza games out on the X1.
What happened is that after all the gameplay vids, after all the announcements for months about what will be released at launch and what comes later (precipitation). Some people were still confused about what this game was and expected something else.
Those of us who paid attention knew what to expect, and got it and aren't disappointed.

Good:
*AI is really aggressive and tough even on the easiest difficulty.
*The penalties makes sense. You don't want to be crashing into cars in order to help yourself take a curve.
*Lots of different stages.
*Interesting challenges.
Bad:
* Graphics are really inconsistent. Lots of low res textures here and there. Some stages look way better than the other ones.
* Online not available and really limited.
* No weather effects available at launch.
I would rate it a 7 out of 10. It is a good game, it's fun to play but it fell flat on a lot of promises.

I love that assessment, that is a very accurate and well written look at it..
I would also love to see the weather effects, but sadly I have received no updates (digital copy), while my friend who has the disc has gotten 2 updates... -and he has weather
I hope they can get this server issues worked out, because I like the game, and I think people will enjoy it/ if they ever get to play it..
I haven't really heard any players complaining. I think that the big issues are (1) an online-centric racer needs to have reliable online play and (2) reviewers were expecting something else entirely and graded the game not as it is, but based on what they were expecting. It's a nasty little human bias we aren't likely to overcome: being objective when things don't align with our expectations. Heck, some gamers gave the original God of War poor scores because they thought it was a fighting game.
I get that it's not some people's kind of game; for some, it seems a bit too "vanilla". You know, plain, not very deep in terms of content, the like. I might be inclined to agree, but I'd need to play it first, so I'll withhold any judgments. At the same time though, based on my expectations for the game, what I've heard, and what I've personally seen before launch, I think a 75-77 overall is a fair score. The game comes off as pretty bare-bones, but that isn't to say it isn't fun. Metacritic's overall grade is slightly below what I'd probably give it, but again, haven't played it so take my word with skepticism.
