While still perusing N4G on a regular basis and enjoying not-getting-involved in the furious and oh so righteous arguments in the forums: I cannot help but sense that something is wrong/up/dissatisfied about my gaming brothers.
A quick glance at the dominant postings reveals we are caught up in the bunker mentality or crowing about technical superiority in some (normally) graphic related, split screen comparison. While the non-core gamers feel able to converse openly about the party potential for these entertainment hubs.
I suggest we all rejoice that our nu-geek hobby has evolved and found mass acceptance. Rather than (secretly) hating the change from cult to mainstream.
Both Sony and Microsoft are pushing a major User Interface change for their games and operating systems. This UI enhancement will continue to complement the existing controllers, before finally emancipating us from the keyboard and mouse (which are pretty inhibiting, when you think about it). Games currently (have to) rely entirely on the visual sense, and finally here is the opportunity to add another sensory input into our digital leisure activities. Everything changes this christmas.
Yesterday there was very little about the vanquish demo (brilliant just brilliant). Because everyone was slightly worried about GT5’s jelly chassis problems. Halo Reach took another bashing even though it is time to start getting officially excited and booking a day off work.
With terrifyingly good IP's always just around the corner, we have all finally got the hobby we always wanted. Yet we don't seem terribly happy.

Microsoft announced its financial results for Q3 of fiscal year 2026, including an update on its gaming Xbox business and more.
Not looking good. Hopefully Asha Sharma is able to turn Phil’s disaster around.
To me it's still quite remarkable how they can cash-in 5.3bn in revenue in a single quarter, since their hardware is basically dead.

The charity event will be streamed live from Gamescom in August.

Thanks to the slip-up of an artist working on the title, we now have more evidence that a new Injustice game is in the works.
I think it's just this site. For all these amazing games everybody claims to be playing they certainly find the time to troll every single article every single day. Go play Uncharted instead of worrying about Halo. Go play your "flood of AAA exclusive games" instead of worrying about Kinect. I think most users of this site actually hate games, they just want something to fight about. I only started losing bubbles when I couldn't take the s**t from the Sony freaks any longer. It's this site, man. It's poisonous.
While I agree that is sad that sites like this one so quickly turn into fanboy wargrounds the problem can be described completely with two words... the internet. Just try to avoid all the rants and raves and be selective about where you point your browser to.
Nice article. I'v been on here for over 3 years and rarely make comments or get invovled in the fanboy wars. To be honest it's one of the few sites that work at my office.
There was a time when being a gamer meant you were part of a sub-culture and now we have become main stream we decide to squabble and turn on ourselves. Gamers pledge themselves to corporations. Rant and rave and personaly attack fellow gamers on behalf of mega-corporations. What happened to taking down Shinra?
Anyway just nice to see an article that makes sense. Personally I own all systems, and emulate SNES and Genesis games. Even the 16 bit wars had soul and comradeship.
Anyway time for me to return to the shadows and carry on gaming!!!
Here I am!
I have been a member of a couple different gaming communities for a number of years, and it seems to be a fairly common theme amongst a lot of gamers to complain, spam and fight with one another over platforms, genres, game mechanics, and anything else they can spout off their opinions about.
I think it is partly because gamers in general are just so passionate about gaming that we care about where it is going in the future, and also, of course, the online forum is a perfect place for normally introverted people to spout all their ideas, thoughts, and feelings that they've been bottling up for years.
Some of us though, are more mature, have friends outside of online forums, and are comfortable enough with our nerdy passions that we want to share it with the outside world freely, and are super happy to see others who share our interests. I enjoy a friendly debate but when it resorts to name calling and rudeness, i politely disappear and find someone more fun to talk to ^_^
