Stepping into the world of HD-gaming

Its finally happening. I have waited since the release of the ps3 to enter the world that is HD-gaming. I haven't had a lot of money, ever, so this is a big step for me.

Yesterday I ordered my first HD-television. I picked a Sony Bravia KDL-32EX500 (I think that was the model-name). You might wonder why such a "small" TV (Well I am about to start studying and I can't afford a bigger one), but the main reason is that I am gonna use this TV as a computer screen as well for my ps3 (Which I am going to order once LPB2 is available). I sit about 65 centimeter (about 25 inches) from my computer screen and to have a screen bigger than 32" wouldn't be good for my eyes. And my apartment is really small, 1 room, but its enough if you are single.

My choice to buy a ps3 was not that hard. I had to spend as little as possible and the ps3 also brings me a blu-ray-player which feels like a requirement. I really thought about an Xbox 360, but it simply didn't have enough games that appealed to me.

Second reason for choosing the ps3 is that I am very much looking forward to also entering the world of motion-gaming. I Really like the idea of Kinect, and I am going to buy an Xbox the next generation when Kinect has improved, not saying that its bad now, but it seems like it is more appealing for casual gaming than me as a hardcore gamer. If they show me something that I really would enjoy with Kinect, then I will buy a 360 before the next generation.

I looked at the Wii too, but I am not going to buy an HD TV to play sub-HD games on. And I have played with Wii at friends places and the motion isn't precise enough for my taste, although there were a lot of games on the Wii that I enjoyed. Harvest Moon for one (silly me :P), Raving Rabbits and games like that.

I wish I had the money to buy all three consoles, but that is not the case. So my choice is a ps3.

But then we have another problem. When I have aquired a ps3+a move bundle, + a move wand, + a navigation control then what games should I buy? This is the main reason to why I made this post. I want suggestions on games. LPB2 is one game, as well as Tumble (I love puzzle games like that), but then I am not sure. Please give me suggestions :)

I totally forgot about Sorcery. That is another game that I know I am going to buy :)

For those stepping up to HD:

I would also recommend what I have. A Mistubishi 60" DLP 3-D ready. Great thing about this tv is you can get them for about 700 bucks and for 99.00 buy a 3-d converter box that works just as good as a 3-D tv. Add in the cost of a pair of shutter glasses and for $1000.00 you ahve a 60", 1080p TV that can play awesome 3-D. Can't beat it!

let me guess, you live in the US :P Electronics are very cheap there compared to here in Sweden, I would have bought a TV like that if I could afford it :P

@a08andan

Yea, sorry to have sounded ignorant. However, I still stand by my point. 3-D is taking off and if you are coughing up the cash for a new HD might as well try and get the 3-D ready ones. If I win the lotto I will track you down and ship you a new one :)

a08andan5631d ago

Haha :D Please do :P But I will buy a bigger TV when I have steady employment! Its gonna be at least 52" and 3D :D And I didn't mean to imply that you sounded ignorant ^^

May I suggest modnation racers if you like kart games. It's the LBP of karting. Also 3d dot game heroes is pretty rad if old school rpg floats your boat.
The playstation classics games are a good place to start as well. Their a bit cheaper than standard games and have multiple games in them. God of war and sly cooper collections are the only ones out so far I think.
For puzzle games you may want to check out echochrome ii if your getting move, I don't know if it's out yet but it looks cool. It's a digital download on the network.
Also If you like shooting games MAG is move compatible and just went greatest hits.

It's kind of hard to make suggestions when you don't list what type games you like and what kind of budget you have for games. These are the games and types that I have really enjoyed on the PS3.

Action/Adventure: Uncharted series, Red Dead Redemption, GTA IV, Dead Space

Shooters: BF Bad Company 2, Killzone 2, MAG, Resistance 2

Sports: FIFA, MLB The Show, Madden, Fight Night 4

Racing: Gran Turismo 5, NFS: Hot Pursuit, NFS: Shift, Dirt 2

I also enjoy RTS games, but didn't list them since I play those on my PC and haven't played a console RTS that I enjoy as much as the PC. Also, I mostly play FPS games on the PC, as well. However, I did play the games or betas of the PS3 shooter games I listed and enjoyed each of them.

@a08andan, I forgot to note that I have the same setup in my room: I have my PC and PS3 hooked up to a HDTV. Only difference is mine is 40", but I'm sitting a little farther back than you (about 3 feet). The other difference is my PS3 is a sidekick to my PC since I do the majority of my gaming on the PC. However, the PS3 is great choice for their exclusives plus games that I enjoy on the console more, namely sports. All in all, though, the PC plus PS3 is a great gaming combo that can't be beat.

a08andan5632d ago

Yeah I was looking at the 40" but sitting 25 inches from a screen of that size would just feel weird :) Can't wait until I get my TV! I expect it to arrive sometime between monday-wednesday next week :)

My first game on HD-Tv was Assassins Creed (1), and to this day I still feel that I haven't played a better looking game visually. Perhaps FFXIII (on PS3) is an exception, but for AC's views and structures of areas such as Acre and Damascus it just looked incredible. I had seen it on SD before and still thought it was great but on HD it was amazing. I have a 19inch LCD myself, more than big enough for my little room and perfect size for getting all you need from a HD tv if you sit as close as I do.

Like others have said above, list a few more genres or types of games you are interested in or feel you would be interested in so we can give better suggestions. I'll suggest AC myself and ACII (which is incredibly better, but that's for another day).

Oh and congrats on the purchases! :)

Rage_S905631d ago (Edited 5631d ago )

first off congrats on the purchase :D

next games i would suggest going through the backlog of games as you can get them for dirt cheap so no new games till you get though that :)

i recommened uncharted,mgs4,fallout(buggy o'mania warnig)heavy rain, rdr, gta4,gow3,dead space,batman arkham asylum,fifa and bad company 2 for online joy :)

Not looking good. Hopefully Asha Sharma is able to turn Phil’s disaster around.

dveio13d ago

To me it's still quite remarkable how they can cash-in 5.3bn in revenue in a single quarter, since their hardware is basically dead.

Jingsing13d ago

The stock mark is what makes Microsoft remarkable, They have convinced every institutional and retail investor to just keep piling money into them. Like many big tech giants they are just a big growing pyramid scheme. As long as people keep dropping money into ETF's that cover the market Microsoft will always be liquid. At the same time it is completely stifling innovation and competition. People need to start being more discreet in how they invest their money as it's killing the system.

Tanktopmaster9213d ago

Once they re-evaluate exclusive all will be fine….

S2Killinit13d ago

Riiiiight because people will just flock back to them for one or two games per year.

Jingsing13d ago

15+ years of bad performance is what they call irreparable in business. It is time for them to sell off the assets and get out of entertainment.

Tanktopmaster9213d ago

These declines are on the back of extra revenue received from releasing games like Forza horizon 5 on PlayStation. So I’m being sarcastic here when I said they should go back to exclusives. Killing off a revenue stream from Ps5 sales will only make things worse
