good news, maybe one day I won't have to use windows anymore :)

T9005137d ago (Edited 5137d ago )

Well if DX emulation gets good enough on Linux sure that day may not be far.

Though yea all of us would love to see Linux as an alternative to Windows for gaming.

Zha1tan5137d ago

Cant see why hipsters want to use this OS anyway, its impractical and Windows is at the forefront of the compatibility market despite its faults...

Why even bother? Although its good the hipsters are getting steam.

Need word processor, excel, powerpoint? Libre office. Heck, libre office kicks Microsoft office programs a$$es. And basically every big program worth a damn has not only a Linux equivalent, but it also can even use and save as the originals file type on top of it.

When I switched over to Linux for main use, there's only one program I don't have an equivalent for which is a NES screen tool for all the NES programming I do. Unless you do something very specific like NES development, you won't not have a tool that can do the job better.

That is a nice display of ignorance. I would love to be able to use a Linux distro as my primary OS one of these days. Gamin is really the only rreason I still keep it around at this point.

hipsters!!! not sure how someone who thinks that bill gates has enough money and that ms release second rate software that are full of security loopholes can be compared to a pair of low hanging jeans.after my computer got infected for the hundreth time with malware 2 years ago i changed to ubuntu and i've not had one security breach since, steam would be a big plus, plus linux uses less of your hardware so games should run better on less then ultimate gaming rigs

no_more_heroes5137d ago (Edited 5137d ago )

Unfortunately, popularity may be a double-edged sword. Those people who create viruses tend to go where they can make the most impact. I have a feeling that it wouldn't seem half as buggy as it does if it weren't so widely used (not that I feel too much sympathy for a company that makes foolish amounts of money like Microsoft ;) ).

sorceror1715137d ago

@golden_cannon - True, no OS is immune to malware. But Windows has a fundamental problem - it grew up from a single-user, single-tasking origin. The *habits* of security just aren't ingrained, they've had to be grafted on after the fact.

If Linux became more popular, more malware would be targeted for it, sure. But Linux would handle it better than Windows can. It was built from the ground up with the idea of privilege separation, restricted capabilities, etc.

Zha1tan5137d ago

Ive used Windows 8 on the Windows slate and a PC.

Valve responds to NY Attorney General lawsuit

Valve has responded to New York Attorney General Letitia James' lawsuit against the firm, stating it does not believe that lootboxes in its Counter-Strike 2, Dota 2, and Team Fortress 2 games unlawfully encourage minors to gamble, adding it was "disappointed" to see the action go ahead despite efforts to "educate" the NYAG about virtual items since "early 2023."
