Skyrim + Kinect = Game changer?

Does Kinect support for Skyrim mean that there is potential yet for the Kinect to cater for the core gamers that it has so far failed to appeal to?

No.

Yes, it is VERY fun to use Kinect on Skyrim. I use it on the PC version. Unless they market the HECK out of this feature, however, I don't think it's going to sell more Skyrim copies.

Yes and no. What Kinect is doing can be achieved with a regular microphone so why would someone buy Kinect just to use it's microphone feature?

Noticeably_FAT5137d ago

It cannot be achieved with a microphone. Look into the functionality on a game like Endwar and a standard headset, they don't work well at all.

Kinect has built in voice recognition and developers are taking advantage of it. Should someone buy a Kinect just for voice commands on ME3, Skyrim and Halo? Probably not, but if you like those things and are interested in some of the better Kinect games like Dance Central, Kinect Sports, The Gunstringer, Child Of Eden, Haunt, Rise Of Nightmares and upcoming titles like Steel Battalion and Crimson Dragon, then its definitely worth it.

I cant wait to try this out, Kinect is basically working like Hotkeys on a PC keyboard.

It does not have built in voice recognition. It has built in noise cancelling microphones (plural) so that it can record and detect your voice with good quality.

The Voice recognition is all software based, and all done by the xbox cpu.

How it works is by having a library of voice que references that it compares your voice to. This can be done with any microphone that uses the proper software back end. What the kinect does is simply allow better voice pickup during gameplay since it can ignore the game sound more easily (with its multiple noise cancelling microphones).

it can , it was done countless times on PC and on other consoles as well ...
Kinect voice recognition is above average , but there is nothing that can't be done elsewhere ... the only advantages in that devs have pre build libraries to use...

But these things can be done without kinect AND have been done without kinect before.

I'm not saying that it's not a good thing that skyrim has voice recognition but it's NOT a game changer

"Look into the functionality on a game like Endwar and a standard headset, they don't work well at all."

I don't have to look into it. I own it and it works just fine. Kinect + Skyrim isn't achieving anything that wasn't done years ago on PS2 with SOCOM.

Sorry, I have no interest in yelling dragon shouts at my television set. I can just see one of my friends coming to the door while I am screaming, "Fus-Ro-Dah." LOL, no thanks. The only useful thing I have seen for Kinect is the ability to choose, start and stop movies with your voice, such as with HBO GO. Now that is a cool feature, but I would never buy one for gaming.

maniacmayhem5137d ago

Try locking the door so your "friends" don't walk in on you.

hazardman5137d ago

No, its just another way to experience an already great game. Not knocking on the feature at all, if yelling crazy ass words and things like that is your thing then by all means enjoy!! They should implement something like this in the next Fight Night game( I can def hear myself screaming get the fuck off the ropes, move, move..etc)!

they can't get a 14 year old game to run smoothly?

jjb1981156d ago

That's ridiculous, lol. I'm waiting for the guy that says its too cpu-intensive for the Switch 2. This game is old af and has been released like 17 times.
