Yup. Nobody's saying that the Wii U will sell as much as the original Wii, but that doesn't mean it will fail.

Hell, the PS 2 sold more than any console since - does it make every single console released after that a failure? I don't think so.

I cant wait a year from now when the WiiU will do just fine and I'll come back to this article and facepalm lol

Unlike the Wii, the WiiU will be mostly marketed towards the "hardcore" (Nintendo has said this many many times before). I wouldn't even call that the same target audience... but whatever.

If Nintendo honestly thought that the WiiU would outsell the Wii, would they even be catering to the "hardcore" crowd?

Lastly, according to this article every console that didn't sell as much as the Wii... is a failure.

I dont think the wii u tablet controllers will have the same appeal. the biggest appeal of tablets is

1) the portability

2) the apps (goes hand in hand with portability)

3) the micro purchases and online stores

i dont think the wii u controller will draw in that crowd. and I dont think all the hardcore gamers from the PS3 and xbox are just going to jump into the nintendo boat over the course of its single year head start.
