The One Problem With Journey, And The Missing Feature Every Game Should Have

GP: "Thanks to the Playstation Plus service, I was able to purchase the game Journey well ahead of schedule. And honestly, I agree 100% with the rave reviews it's been getting. It is an amazing game. I've read that the main flaw with the game is its length, but honestly I have to disagree. While it sounds insane, the game would actually lose some of its charm if it were too much longer.

Its hard to explain, but the main draw of the game is adventuring with someone. If the game dragged on too much longer then the odds of losing your partner at some point would be that much higher. But there is one major flaw I noticed that really shouldn't exist anymore. Something that not only Journey should have had, but every game should have."

Actually journey shouldn't allow you that THERE IS No reason whatsoever to break your immersion and go to the xmb. i'm sure that's what they had in mind.. that's why the companions doesn't show in your player met list right away.
BUt a screen grab bouton should be used for every other game out.

Sorry, but I disagree. While it's true that it'd be cool for many games, it would be pointless for others, and as Redempteur said, it would break the immersion in a game like Journey, which just should not be done.

You're wrong...if you have ever taken a screen capture on a vita, you would know that you're wrong.

If you are even thinking about taking a screen capture in the first place, your immersion is broken. Plus if you didn't want to use the then don't.

There is no reason to disagree here unless you're disagreeing for the sake of disagreeing...just say it wouldn't be a feature you would utilize.

dead_eye5168d ago

clearly disagreeing for the sake of it.

So the article says "Why not have select as a screen grab button"

Trolls go "that would break the immersion. If i have to press a button"

Everyone with half a brain is thinking that to do anything with a game you have to be pressing a button or moving a stick so how can that break the immersion for any gamer when it's all just second nature.

Redempteur5168d ago

I said " go to the xmb"
Journey can't give you a in game object ( cam ) to take pics.

And journey gameplay is simplified for all the right reasons ..screen grab would use another bouton and would break the experience from the picture feedback to the player

Onlive had a have capture where you press a record button on the bottom of the controller and it records the last 10 seconds of game play...they're called brag clips, they're pretty cool.

Also the vita screen capture is awesome but doesn't capture psp games unfortunately.

Capturing images means dedicating some memory to this function. With such constraints as modern consoles have, it's hard to imagine devs would include it instead of something game-related. This feature would have to be included in the OS with memory reserved for it, like cross-chat. Maybe it's coming with PS4 after being in Vita. But don't count on live recording of games. Publishers wouldn't agree to include it for every game, too many people watch walkthroughs instead of playing games. If you want to record games, buy HD recorder. It's an extra cost but a dedicated gamer (like MP fan or game blogger) should have one.

Shaz from GL: "The way Journey evokes emotions through its narrative without using traditional storytelling methods is something no game has been able to replicate."
