Three Projects from Killzone Devs in the Works

Guerrilla Games is known for the Killzone franchise, and that isn't changing any time soon. During an art process panel at GDC 2012, Guerrilla's Studio Art Director Jan-Bart van Beek said that the team -- which now includes the Sony Cambridge Studios working on Killzone Vita -- is simultaneously working on three different projects. There's the aforementioned Vita game, a new non-Killzone title, and continuing the franchise on the PlayStation 3.

I would love to see their tech in something not a shooter.

agreed, but it's kind of rare I think to see devs move away from the genre they mainly do.
Bungie is known for FPS
Naughty dog is known for third person Platformer/shooter (thanks majiebeast)
GG FPS
Sucker Punch Third person platformer (again thanks) with open world.
ect. ect.

You don't see many devs actually going out there and creating a completely different genre that we aren't use to them doing. There are some, but would love to see more of them take something else on.

Always wanted GG to move past KZ and into another game.

I know Santa Monica is part of the few that actually do something and use their tech in other places that isn't just God of War or they at least create games that are just third person hack and slash.

I could be wrong here, I just don't notice it.

I would take that Dark Science game over another Killzone any day of the week. Killzone is great and all, but it needs to rest for a bit, perhaps until the PS4 comes out.

Jobesy, im guessing you would probably want that cause youve somehow been convinced that theres "nothing left in ps3" meaning the pc fans have really got to you, or you are a pc fan, but just know you wouldnt think that killzone needs to wait til a ps4 if Axis actually made killzone 2 as they originally were going to

Personally I would like to see a really kick ass strategy game set in the Killzone universe that has battles on Vekta, Helhgan, and in space.

Guerrilla games did a third person shooter [shellshock nam 67] game.

Naughty dog also developed a roleplaying game (which published by EA), and also a fighting [way of the warrior] game.

sigh, but you kids only know developers for their 'recent' or 'mainstream' stuff. i loved how, in the tester [season 3], one of the cast members vaunts about knowing 'everything' on all developers (more specifically playstation devs). so, when they [judges] asked him about GG he goes "killzone", then NaughtyDog he goes "uncharted", and then Santa Monica "god of war", and finally incognito "twisted metal". like yeah, everyone knows all the top games these devs made, how about stating the more underrated ones?

Probably a new IP, but is going to be related with War, that's for sure.

If they make a Hellghast story version to play against the ISA, should good. Afterall, the ISA is bad as the Hellghast if you follow the story.

They simply need better writers.
I loved Killzone 2's presentation, and the art direction was simply phenomenal.
But I couldn't care less about any of the characters.
...and that's certainly a problem when the shooter begs to be taken seriously.

Yeah definatley seeing as they are a first party studio completely owned by sony i can see them doing a 360 game.

Also Nitro, ND is known for platformers same as suckerpunch.

I hope there is a killzone for Vita and PS4, and they make a new IP for their last PS3 game. It would be the safest place for a new IP.

Sony is Dominating because competition is not existing. Compared to previous gens this is the poorest in terms of software offerings.

Last gen we got Uncharted 4 Lost Legacy and TLOU2 from ND alone.

This is so far a remasters gen, with no competition to lift up the quality

PlayStation are soon heading into a new generation in the not to distant future. They currently have the worst customer satisfaction they've ever sustained as a company. The company is heading for a huge crash while at the same time they'll need to be planning how they are going to try and win back that favour and the build up to their new releases.

Yes financially they're winning but they're going to have to ride out this complete public corporate disaster. No one has faith in the company or the product anymore. They've damaged their public image so much this generation. Greed can kill anyone.

More confirmation that Jim Ryan is the culprit for what has happened to Sony. Hulst needs to go too. What sucks is that a lot of the good top heads at Sony are no longer there. I wish that guys that were forced out prematurely by Dumbo Jimbo like Shuhei and Layden came back.

Yep. Yoshida was responsible for bringing one of the best games of this generation to playstation (Stellar Blade). He is an actual gamer and is in touch with what gamers want (creative, fun games, not GaaS and agenda pushing). He also seems like a genuinely nice guy if you watch some interviews. Of course they got rid of him.

All the gamer/consumer lead heads are gone across PS and Xbox. shuhei gone phil's gone (questionable) but gone. The future of gaming is somewhat uncertain across the board.

There’s definitely some truth to this. When teams get too large, coordination starts to outweigh creativity—layers of approval, risk aversion, and tight deadlines can turn bold ideas into “safe” ones. Keeping a team under ~200 people sounds ideal for maintaining clear communication and a shared vision. That said, massive AAA projects also come with huge technical demands and expectations, so scaling up isn’t always avoidable. The real challenge is figuring out how to keep that small-team creativity alive inside big studio structures.

More than that, it's logistically untenable. Inevitably, when teams get too large, how do you keep tabs on accountability? I suspect this massive team size is a consequence of the perfectionism streak Naughty Dog has.

I wish we could have so many people working on something and it turns out great because I'm all for collaboration in spirit - the problem is too many people as part of the larger team and smaller units. Suppose for example that you have too many people in the art department; you will very often come up against fiercely competing visions for how things should look. That competitive vision will cause friction between team members, team doesn't work as a unit, the back and forth can further delay parts that the other departments are waiting for, etc etc.

A 200-person team says, to me, that we need to scale back game development. Even if it means we go back to PS2 era costs and scale, why not? Those games are still great fun, the budgets were in check, and you could literally break the 200-man team into like 10 20-man teams working on different projects.
