"For those of you who aren't financial analysts, losses mean that the company is worth less than it was before. Nintendo stock has dropped by over 80% in the last few years, and the market has appreciated over the same period. I'm paid to advise investors, and none have made a profit owning Nintendo stock."- Patcher.

cant wait to hear how the nintendo apologists will spin facts.

Gaetano5198d ago

Problem is that gamers are taking his comments as being said to gamers. Pachter doesn't care about gamers. He cares about investors. That's his obligation. 3DS is awesome atm, WiiU will be cool, but why would someone buy shares in a company whose revenues are falling?

People are just butthurt.

NYC_Gamer5198d ago

Patcher is speaking from the share-holders point of view and many gamers get that confused.

yabhero5198d ago

Not spinning facts... just wondering... which one of the Big three is in debt? Which isn't... exactly.

MultiConsoleGamer5198d ago

So then you must also agree with him when he said PS3 would lead this hardware gen. That happened, right? And I'm sure you must also agree with him when he said PS Vita would be "dead on arrival."

See, if you agree with him about Nintendo, then you must also agree with the negative things he has said about your own favorite company. You can't pick and choose.

BTW, "Nintendo apologists?" My aren't you full of hatred. Wow. I usually never adress fanboys on this site but your hateful nature really takes the cake.

And the sad thing is, the things said on this site, on message boards, and on the internet in general have no bearing or impact on the gaming market at large. Online fanboys live in an insular market bubble.

Hicken5198d ago (Edited 5197d ago )

No one has to agree with everything anyone says. As an analyst, Pachter gives his opinion. People are free to agree and disagree with what they wish.

In this case, if what Pachter has stated is indeed fact, then disagreeing with it is silly, and could well be considered the attitude of a fanboy.

Your examples about the PS3 and Vita aren't facts, but projections. And projections can be right or wrong.

If Colwyn was trying to take a projection and state it as correct or incorrect, I'd agree with you... actually, I still wouldn't, because there's still no obligation to agree with everything ANYONE says or does.

Edit: If you're going to quote someone, please do so correctly. There's a big IF starting off what I said, and it's very important to the meaning of everything behind it.

Here's the thing: Pachter didn't- in this case, at least- say "Nintendo blew it." And he stressed the lack of a price less than that a combination of factors like not having launched already have put them in an undesirable position from the viewpoint of an investor.

INVESTOR. Just thought I should repeat that for you.

Pacther isn't talking about how gamers view Nintendo; most gamers with any good sense can see that, even if you only looked at the 3DS, Nintendo is sitting pretty right now. But from the standpoint of someone who wants to invest in Nintendo, the things Pachter pointed out ARE important to consider. Only someone too concerned with their own opinion to see another side of a situation would think otherwise.

As for "defending" Colwyn, it has nothing to do with that, and EVERYTHING to do with you deciding that if someone believes one thing a particular person says, they have to believe them all. And that's the most ignorant thing I've read in a while, which really says something here on n4g.

Need an example? I'm sure you don't, but here's one, anyway: check my comment history for how many times I've disagreed with Knight_Cid. I can close my eyes and be 90% certain that I'll disagree with anything he says. Still... http://n4g.com/comments/red... Does this mean I can never disagree with him again?

Geez, you people are so quick to shout out "fanboy" that you don't even think about what the subject is, sometimes, and whether or not the term is even applicable.

MultiConsoleGamer5197d ago (Edited 5197d ago )

"What Pachter has stated is fact." Bullshit. Stating "Nintendo has blown it because they haven't announced a price" is pure opinion. And only the biggest fanboy would say otherwise.

Just like only the biggest fanboy would defend Colwyn.

Shok5198d ago

I love how Sony has actually been in financial hell this whole gen and people seem to just ignore that and focus on Nintendo's losses that are petty compared to Sony's.

Outside_ofthe_Box5198d ago (Edited 5198d ago )

You make me laugh.

Why do take what Nintendo fanboys say so personally? You act like every criticism they have of Sony is a stab and a bullet to your heart. Relax this isn't a gang war. LMAO!

I find it VERY ironic that you quote patcher with that particular statement.

I recall you saying:

"i dont care who posts number losses because im a gamer and only benefit from the company supplying new games on a proper system."

http://n4g.com/news/949936/...

BUT now that it's against Nintendo you suddenly care about losses and want to see how Nintendo fans respond, LOL?

XD XD XD

PopRocks3595197d ago

I'll admit that I'm a bigger fan of Nintendo than any other company out there. But I have very little hatred (or criticism) for the competition. I own every major and modern dedicated gaming console in the industry and I intend to play both Wii U and at least one of the upcoming next gen console from Sony/Microsoft.

I defended Sony during the PSN hack attack and I criticized Microsoft for taking so goddamn long to address the RRoD issue. I criticized Nintendo for not creating a steady stream of core content for the Wii owners who backed them in hopes of more great content like Mario Galaxy and Kirby's Epic Yarn while praising Sony for opening up new windows with the PSN store and the PS1 Classics.

I can continue the list but you get the gist of the matter; every company has their pros and cons and these stupid fanboy wars don't help anyone.

As for Colwyn, he in particular seems to do nothing but incite hatred in an attempt to get people angry at him. Regardless of what anyone thinks of the Wii U or the competition, I think it's in everyone's best interest to ignore him.

Yodagamer5198d ago (Edited 5198d ago )

well here is a fact, nintendo has no debts, every other video game company does, please try to spin this fact (even though you could probably spin something outta diarrhea, if it would make sony look good)

kefka_palazzo5198d ago (Edited 5198d ago )

this clown, Colwyn

in contrast to Sony and their failed shit known as Playstation 3 (it only does everything, generating 5+ billion $ operational debt) Nintendo is O.K 3DS selling very well, the WiiU looks promising

Patcher is not gamer he is research analyst his only interest are markets not games, even the biggest crap if performing well is far more important for him than excelent games.

For investors and Nintendo itself this can be excellent opportunity.

in your case better look how badly SCE exclusive games performs on market.

"Let's take a look at the positives. Firstly, the 3DS, after a slow start, is outpacing the DS, the original GameBoy and even the PlayStation 2. But that's after a terrible launch that saw Nintendo revenues cut in half and executies talking 50% pay cuts. 2011 was officially the year of the 3DS, as no other platform sold more units over a nine month period. "

all that matters right now

I am a gamer, not a share holder.

PirateThom5198d ago

Then why are you so concerned about sales?

Knight_Cid5198d ago

I am not but when everyone else is, you need to respond. Especially when what they say is narrow minded and taken out of context

Hell I am sure nintendo is profitable right now. That was the goal

MultiConsoleGamer5198d ago

Pacther is so off base, so out of touch, that I now question his credibility as an analyst. There is something so obvious about the Wii U, something he should already know. The fact that he doesn't address this factor is astonishing for me.

I guess I'll have to do it myself. Stay tuned.

Crazy to think the WII is to the Switch 2, as the NES was to the WII back then. 20 Year difference.

jznrpg30d ago

My wife asks me to bust it out (heh) everyone once in a while to play bowling and tennis with the kids. There was a ton of slop on it but some good stuff as well.

Smellsforfree29d ago

Wii was great but boy howdy did it cause Microsoft to go on a dark walk with the Kinect and the disastrous XBox One launch that they arguably never recovered from.

Loktai29d ago

Not nostalgic for me.. I was there.. anyone who wasnt a little kid realized it was a gamecube with shit tacked onto it, it was the "joke" system and was well below even the switch in terms of comparing it to the latest machines at the time. The machine was well loved by young people and "casual gamers" who now remember it 20 years on, or in most cases more of its sales came in the 15-20 years ago range not right at launch- but again its not nostalgic for people who were "gamers" then really, just for those who ended up with one in their house, the games , graphics, interface and online features were archaic already in 2006.
