Nintendo in Disarray Comment is Absurd

Recently Nintendo has been the target of analysts in their ever going insane comments. Michael Pachter is an analyst I trust, and I have never had an issue with his comments. I believe his comments and predictions are well thought out, but even his Nintendo comments are starting to bug me.

Nintendo Wii sales 95+ million units.

Nintendo 3DS becomes the fastest selling handheld of all time, also while outselling the Wii and PS2.

Nintendo Wii U will launch first, giving it a whole year to itself, coming with great 3rd party support and an actual online network, essentially fixing all the problems that the Wii had.

And Nintendo is in disarray.

Colwyn5232d ago (Edited 5232d ago )

wii is abandoning its fanbase and nintendo has announced wii u. there wont be any more big releases for the wii when it comes to software. wii u as been announced a year ago but the general public barely has any info on it. the 3ds had to drop its price 30percent a few months after release. the wii u will have weak hardware with bad controls again. a big square controller isnt ergonomical enough and will give hand cramps like a 3ds or ds. the 3ds is an incomplete handheld because its missing parts and people need to buy a second add-on to have 2 slide pads. the ps vita was released last week with more games than the 3ds ( waitstation) as gathered over a year on the market.

Shok5232d ago

"wii is abandoning its fanbase and nintendo has announced wii u. there wont be any more big releases for the wii when it comes to software"

That's why Xenoblade and The Last Story have both just recently been announced to come out here in the US right? Lol. And Pandora's Tower is coming out in UK. Wii owners are at least getting 3 very epic RPGs, and although it's just 3 games, they're RPGs, so they'll last a very long time.

"the 3ds had to drop its price 30percent a few months after release."

.............and? Lol.

"the wii u will have weak hardware with bad controls again."

We don't know the official specs, but even the rumored specs put the Wii U leaps and bounds above the current gen.

"a big square controller isnt ergonomical enough and will give hand cramps like a 3ds or ds"

Journalists WHO HA"VE ACTUALLY TOUCHED A WII U PAD all say that it's actually very comfortable to hold and is even light-weight.

"the 3ds is an incomplete handheld because its missing parts and people need to buy a second add-on to have 2 slide pads"

I agree that a 2nd pad is needed, but no doubt that'll come in a redesign and the 3DS is doing fine as-is without an extra slide pad. Heck, the DS did fine with just a D-PAD lol.

Try harder troll xD

yabhero5232d ago

I was going to reply to your stupidity with an elaborate answer but Shok did me the favor (Bubble+ for Shok)
I would argue with you about the WiiU specs being weak especially when it look around 6 times current gen and on par with the nextbox but you're someone who expects the PS4 to be packing a double GTX 580 with an intel i7 at like 3.8 GHz and 8GB of RAM...
The 3DS dropped its price and now Nintendo is making profit and the 3DS is approaching 16 million worldwide. Also the ppl who actually played WiiU said the controller is light and comfy. Look on IGN, the dude say he can see himself holding this for a long time. You can keep enjoyiing e exactly same controller. Are you on dualshock 56? or 72? Props to Nintendo for being a somewhat creative. Like Shok I'll give the the second pad one... that was a mistake on their part. How would you know the 3DS cramps your hand? It doesn't do that to mine... In fact I just played MGS3D for 4 hours str8... you wldn't know because you don't have a 3ds... you probably haven't even played one for longer than 10 minutes...

LX-General-Kaos5232d ago

As yabhero stated above. Shock has taken care of another Nintendo hater with style and grace. With Ninja like skills and quick reflexes we have all witnessed another verbal beating full of truth and facts.

These smear articles will do nothing to stop the legendary quest that Nintendo has taken to the top of the gaming landscape.

With just a glimpse at the sales numbers and review scores you can easily see the fine direction Nintendo is headed in. All of these negative articles full of negative comments will do nothing to bring down the house that Mario built.

The Last Story is now available for pre order

Shok is a kid living in his mom's basement, while Pachter is a financial adviser for people looking to invest in the games industry........Sorry, but I think i'll go with Pachter on this one.

On topic:
I think the 3DS will do really well, but the Wii is pretty much abandoned. While The Last Story, Xenoblade and Pandora's Tower might be good RPGs (I wouldn't know because the only one I've ever heard of is Xenoblade), these are not mass market games like HALO, Gran Turismo or Uncharted, and therefore won't make a very big impact on Wii sales. The Wii was a fad, and like most people know, the casuals that bought the Wii probably played Wii sports a few times and then never touched the system again. These casuals that bought the Wii aren't anxiously waiting to buy a new console.

This brings me to the WiiU. This will unfortunately be the next Sega Dreamcast. Its not going to be able to do anything that the 360 or the PS3 can't already do, especially with the release of the PS VITA, and the possibilities of using that with the PS3 for augmented reality games. Both the PS3 and the 360 are still hot, and with the PS4 and XBOX 720 both releasing within the next 2 years, the WiiU will get drowned out by all the excitement for the next two "real next gen" consoles. Nintendo couldn't have picked a worse release window. I think the WiiU will be lucky to sell the same amount of units as the Game Cube.

Hand cramps come on my hand cramps on the vita too. :) i shouldn't of tossed out my porn magazines when i got marred.... what was i thinking.

As a publisher they are in dissray, I have never seen any other publisher be so determined in not bring a game over that there fans wanted, not without a decent reason anyways.

The fight for Xenoblade shouldn't have been so big, and then to have Nintendo set the game up for commercial failure is an unacceptable slap in the face to the people in Monolith Studio. They are making the way Sega handled Yakuza 3 (a game that, I might add also require a fan movement to get to the states, but one that never got nearly as big as Operation Rainfall)look good.

As for The Last Story, it douse mark an improvement in Nintendo's publishing polices, but again Nintendo should have done this from the start.

Lets not for get the game Nintendo kept from the west like Fatal Frame 4. Again this was a publisher completely ignoring it's fanbase, wich in this day and age is completely unacceptable.

Honky Kong5232d ago (Edited 5232d ago )

Fatal Frame 2 is coming to Wii soon.

Anon19745232d ago (Edited 5231d ago )

Why don't we look at the facts? Nintendo had to slash it's earnings and had the worst showing it's had in 30 years, revenue is down 40%, revenue in the US has fallen 50% and you've got Nintendo heads publicly apologizing for everything from losses to the 3DS price cut. Company brass aren't out there eating humble pie because the company is a resounding success and everything is running like clockwork.

The mobile game marketplace, which has long been Nintendo's bread and butter, has changed and Nintendo has put out a very traditional console which they've already had to cut the price on while revising the sales forecasts downward by millions.

Add to that the very realistic concerns regarding what we've seen regarding the Wii-U, I think these are all reasons that back up Pacther's comments that Nintendo is in disarray. You can't argue with any of those points - they're just the facts. As a business (and they aren't the only company facing hardship) they're struggling.

And this guy saying the Wii-U would be just fine launching at $399, what planet are you living on?

Blackdeath_6635231d ago

i said this many times before sales dont prove anything my first lesson studying further maths statistics was basicaly the maths teacher that stats is bullshit. if 95 million people bought a game it means that 95 million people bought a game it DOES NOT however mean that they all enjoyed it or that its a good game it maybe down to good advertising(the wii was a very popular christmas present) or even by chance (random event) as other ppl mentioned before nintendo is in disarray not in a financial point of view but in terms of fan base which sooner or later will get bored of the same titles over and over. too early to judge right now and i do think disarray is an over statement but not too far from the truth.

Nobody is strictly a Nintendo supporter. You'd have to be INSANE to JUST support Nintendo. The Wii has the worst line-up of games this generation. Yes, it had some gems, but the massive amount of great games on PS3 and 360 far exceed those of the Wii. You can't deny that.

Nintendo is, in no way, going broke. They're worth more than any company their size.

That being said, I want good games. The PS3 exclusives may not sell as well as the Wii exclusives, but they sure as heck keep me entertained. Sony releases game after game after game and you expect me to just ignore that as a gamer?!?

You, sir, are not a gamer.

I strictly support Nintendo and I am anything but insane..you think because you come on here and make an insane blanket statement it makes it true? Whether you like it or not there are MANY solo Nintendo supporters(numbers don't lie..but trolls do)so try to at least come on here with facts in your sh-- talking we have too many baseless Sony trolls on here as it is.

Instigator5232d ago

I'm not going to deny that the PS3 and 360 have more good games than the Wii, but the fact is that the experiences you get on those two consoles are very similar. The appeal of the Wii is that it has unique titles, and enough of them to warrant any "my Wii is collecting dust" argument redundant.

I've had my Wii since 2007 and haven't had any problem finding great games on it. So much so that between it and the DS I still haven't had time to buy the PS3 and PSP I've been planning.

If you, sir, are a gamer, you don't disregard Nintendo. They are not without their faults, but software wise the Wii is well worth it.

LX-General-Kaos5231d ago (Edited 5231d ago )

I see my biggest fan MySwordisHeavenly has followed me to another article.

Its ok I welcome your attention. Even if you are only here to continue your Nintendo smear campaign and stealth rep sony.

If you are going to rep sony at least make it good. Go all out dont be afraid. Im not going to take your bubbles. Learn from the true entertaining sony fans from the old school n4g. You sound like an angry snippy sony fan with a chip on his shoulder.

If you are really that upset man PM me your address and I can have a Nintendo 3DS delivered to you to put a smile on that face. The you too can play the award winning exclusive titles provided to you by Nintendo.

I don't get it, why people keep trying to predict the future and already make up their judgements without any solid information ?!! No one on earth can possibly say for sure what is going to happen in the next 2 years, hell no one can tell what will happen this year when WiiU launches, what will the line-up be or price or amount of sales.

Titanz5232d ago (Edited 5232d ago )

They hate the fact that Nintendo hasn't gone 3rd party yet. What's ironic though, is the fact that Sony knocked Sega off their hardware pedestal.

PirateThom5232d ago (Edited 5232d ago )

I'm pretty much "Sony platforms only" these days.

I grew up with Nintendo being my primary digital entertainment. I still have really good memories of Nintendo when they were one of the most exciting gaming companies and their products were second to none. I still had Sega consoles, but Nintendo were always my favourite consoles.

Problem is, Nintendo don't make products for people in their 20's who still care about gaming. They're still making the same products and experiences that I grew up with... which is fine, just not for me. I'm not saying everything has to be gritty and washed out or else I hate it, but Nintendo never really evolved their games. Mario is still Mario, Zelda is still Zelda. I grew up, Nintendo didn't change, so I had to find a platform that suited me. Nothing will ever be better than the SNES as a console, nothing will ever beat Mario World as a platformer, or Super Metroid as an adventure. I just don't need Nintendo games anymore though.

I tend to find it's Microsoft fans who tended to be old Sega fans anyway.

PopRocks3595232d ago

"Problem is, Nintendo don't make products for people in their 20's who still care about gaming."

That's why Nintendo published Resident Evil 4 and Geist, right?

If you're not into Nintendo games anymore, that's fine. Sometimes people grow out of certain things. But not being developed for adults does not mean a game isn't fun. I know more grown ups who played Mario Galaxy than kids and I know more kids who play Call of Duty than adults. Go figure.

Knight_Cid5232d ago

yeah fire emblem is sure for 10 year olds..........

Id also like to see a 10 year old get through mario galaxy or dk returns, or really 90 percent of the stuff they do

Honky Kong5232d ago

I'm happy monster hunter tri made it to wii.
Zelda skyward sword seemed fun too and I'm 32... Now if I could only finish metroid prime 3 on hard....

PirateThom5232d ago

You're listing games here, but Resident Evil 4 and Geist are Game Cube games, so it's going back a while there to start with, and neither were very good anyway, and Fire Emblem is maybe the exception rather than the rule (and, again, I don't even care for that series anyway, so it's not exactly going to help me like Nintendo more). Having 1 or 2 token games with M ratings just isn't what I'm talking about. I'm talking about a lack of real creativity with new IPs. The Wii's new IPs have been few and far between and most have been "Wii _______" rather than your Doshin the Giants and Pikmins from the Game Cube. Like you're saying, a game doesn't have to be aimed at adults to be fun.

As for Mario and Zelda, those games are still the same as their N64 and Game Cube counterparts, different artstyle, a few new features, but those games are all running off the Mario 64 and Ocarina of Time train of thought. I've been playing Mario and Zelda games since the NES. There's only so much you can take before it does become, well, boring. Not that they aren't well designed games, but they're never stepping outside their comfort zone or enhancing the franchise in any real way.

Drekken5231d ago

Thom, you are right... Nintendo fans are just too strong in this article comment thread.

I don't get it and never will. All I know is I have come to terms that my taste is different than the mainstream. And by judging the products that the mainstream loves... from consoles, to movies, and music. I AM GLAD to not have mainstream tastes.

You are right. Nintendo is for a younger demographic and girls. One guy said: "oh yeah, they had RES4 and geist" and I say LOL!

no no no. I can vouch that this former SEGA fan is gaming on Nintendo now. The Best Sonic games are on the Nintendo consoles now.

TenkoTAiLS5232d ago

I'm with you on that! After the Dreamcast met it's end i picked up a Gamecube. With the directors cut versions of Dreamcast games and Sega's support for each of it's consoles Nintendo was the way to go for quite a while. Tho now i am a multi-platform kinda guy as there are great games on all consoles. I don't let being a fan or supporter of a single company tarnish my views on great games just because they are made on some other console like a fair few fans do. :)

AWBrawler5232d ago

Agreed, i don't own all, but I do game on all 3 systems, and between me and my staff members for my website, we own all.

AdvanceWarsSgt5232d ago

Not sure if serious.

Motorola5231d ago

You can't pay me to even TYPE that.

tiffac0085232d ago

To all analyst, believe me when I say: "Never underestimate the Big N"

They've proven the majority wrong twice this generation with the Wii and then the 3DS. Never count them out and think they don't know what they're doing because they do.

OcularVision5231d ago

Well they did prove people wrong with the Wii. But they've had several failed products for those who doubt them. Remember the Virtual Boy? LOL
Also, the 3DS sold well-below expectations before the massive price cut. People WILL buy a product at a lower price.

tiffac0085231d ago

And its true the majority will buy a product at a lower price BUT only if its worth buying.

The 3DS at $249 was never really an issue, even when it was found out that it only took $101 to manufacture.

The lack of games and 2nd analog stick was the real issue with the gamers and only the media kept touting the price as an issue, the same can be said with the Vita (regarding the price).

I'm not sure what the original sales expectation of Ninty was on the 3DS but its safe to say, its trending well right now.

U.S. patent examiner rejects Nintendo’s summoning characters patent as obvious: non-final ruling

The rejection is non-final (and even when such rejections are labeled as “final”, the process is far from over, given that there can be, at minimum, an appeal to the Federal Circuit).

Nintendo wants to keep wasting money on bullshit lawsuits, real smart in this economy. They should put that money aside for other game projects. On the other hand, I don't care if they waste it all either, and they are screwed in the future maybe that will teach them a lesson.

Yes, they had better be pissed after Trump told them the way they rip off the USA is over.

EveryPlatformGamer109d ago

LOL I read this on gaff, will they refund the money back to the gamers? highly unlikely. Didn't they just raise prices and pass it onto the gamers? Only Nintendo would send out the Ninjas to the US government.

-Foxtrot109d ago

That’s what I was thinking, imagine them winning hypothetically, getting a s**t load of money back which they would have lost if they hadn’t raised their prices and it’s business as normal.

It would just mean people paid more for no reason since they got the money back anyway.

Outside_ofthe_Box108d ago (Edited 108d ago )

A lot of companies partially passed the cost to consumers instead of all of it. They would still have to at least pay that back to gamers, but we know that won't happen. What's also sad is that prices won't come back down after the initial hike caused by tariffs.

People didn't understand the full repercussions of tariffs. That alone should have cost him the presidency if people knew it was a permanent price hike for consumers

Inverno109d ago

The people should sue these companies for having to over pay cause of these tariffs.

Eonjay109d ago

Naw they should sue the government for forcing the tax to begin with. No one reasonably expects these companies to absorb the taxes. Many smaller companies tried and were shut down or faced to increase prices to try to maintain their business. The tariffs effect everyone.

Inverno107d ago

I meant it mostly as a joke cause we all know the costs of these tariffs were passed onto the consumer. But it's seems no matter how vocal we are here in the states our "representatives" don't seem to care enough to represent us. And things are about to get worse.

Killer2020UK108d ago

The companies were doing what the law required then to do, the tariffs however were illegally implemented. Usually it's criminals we punish, you seem to have different ideas 🤷‍♂️
