Does the Mass Effect 3 DLC Really Matter?

With less than a fortnight until release, Bioware have managed to turn many a fan against themselves and their forthcoming blockbuster, Mass Effect 3. For those that don’t yet know, Bioware plan to release day one downloadable content for ME3 which consists of a character that most would consider integral to the ME universe. Unlike Batman Arkham City or even ME2, this DLC doesn’t come free for those purchasing the game brand new. Strangely, it’s only open to people that buy the special edition – this is where the controversy was born.

It occurs to me that if the Prothean is present in the game but is non-playable, that his presence is or could be considered as advertising of the worst kind for the DLC.

Was this article rushed? It felt rushed. I reached the end expecting to hear more, but no, that was it. Not the best article I've read this week, honestly. I've seen longer and more detailed, thought-filled opinions done in N4G's own comment sections than what this short 'article' offers. The structure for how he brings his question across is a bit odd as well.

First he says "we thought the DLC was cut from the disc", but "then we found out it was made after the game was finished" basically saying that it wasn't cut from the disc. Then ends it with saying the dlc was cut from the full game. First he thought they cut it, then they say they didn't and he implies he believes them, but then follow it up with saying that they did cut it? It's kinda confusing. You either accept BioWare's word on it, or you don't. Simple enough.

Like I said, it felt rushed. Felt like he had more to say on the subject and was going somewhere with it, but then kinda abruptly stopped.

I think you're right. I had a lot to say but I just couldn't find a structure for it. I'll revise it soon.

FrightfulActions5186d ago

Glad you didn't take my criticism personal. It sounded like you had more to say and that you were heading somewhere with the topic, looking forward to reading the revise.

Seriously, Sucker Punch...

And honestly the Prothean DLC pretty much ruins an aspect of the story since I think it confirms that other Protheans will be in the game unless Bioware really wants to screw over their fans even more. It's great that I've never watched any videos or read previews for ME3 but I get the biggest spoiler from what the DLC is.

Question: Would gamers rather this DLC remained exclusive to those who purchase the CE? or available to all gamers including those who chose not to get the CE?

It could have very well be one of those DLC only for CE such as Batman AC Penguin's Lounge.

When logic meets EA it generates anti-matter ..... so try not to apply it in any meaningful way. Entropy is what matters in there !!

The community warned them this would happen but nope they knew better they continued with the live service push the made the art style cartoonish and this is the result

It's always so bizarre when studios announce something super early in development under the suggestion of forming the game to player feedback, and then they push against all feedback heading straight for the cliff while everyone is warning them along the way

US Lawmakers Urge Review Of EA Sale

The Congressional Labor Caucus sent a letter to the FTC warning the debt-financed, largely PIF-owned deal could be bad news for workers

lol ya think? they're sending all that work to the cheaper labor market as soon as possible. and FYI, that labor market has exploded in the last 5-10 years. They have enough people to replace every single job. But honestly, EA is over filled with useless upper management as it is. You could probably trim 25% of their staff with no real loss in production. They aren't gamers, they're business execs. Just look at how many AI related jobs they're already starting to post. Its also hilarious that PIF owns Battle field 6

Wait,

The same congress that attacked Lina Khan when she fought the Microsoft Activision purchase.
The same congress that allowed Disney to buy 90% of Fox
The same congress that allowed Liv Golf to buy the PGA
The same congress that sits back while Paramount tries a hostile takeover despite losing the bid for Warner Bros.

NOW, the suddenly cares about doing what's "right" for works? Yeah, right.

EA now owned by The Saudis and Ubisoft to inevitably be owned by China. In hindsight, once EA and Ubisoft started having their financial woes, they should have pulled a Koei Tecmo/Bandai Namco by merging their operations into one.
