Technically disastrous Skyrim is Bethesda’s “most solid release” yet

Venturebeat: Bethesda Game Studios’ Todd Howard has finally broken his three-month-long silence regarding The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim’s notorious technical issues.

“Statistically, it is not nearly as bad as it seems,” Howard told IndustryGamers. ”Meaning, by all the internal and external data, this is our most solid release.”

I must have been a lucky bastard with Oblivion, FO3, and New Vegas.

Well it really does depend on player experience. My time with Fallout 3 on PS3 was remarkably solid given all the criticism. I might have gotten stuck on an object one time from recollection. The DLC's were pretty poor though, but I'm pretty sure that was across the board.

I've been playing Skyrim on PC and can't think of any hiccups off the top of my head in my 70+ hour experience. As far as Bethesda games go, I'd say it's the most consistent thus far. Others with probably tell me otherwise, but it's that kind of game.

the ps3 and 360 cannot handle the game, i have seen it running on a friends 360 who is over 50 hours in and it chuggs, stutters and lags like crazy, every time he turns the game hangs, when entering rooms, there is lag and texture artifacting.

skyrim is not the only game that is crippling the ps3/360

dark souls
dead island
saints row 3

and many other recent games run horrible on both consoles

new consoles are needed very badly to get rid of this, its not beths fault about skyrim, todd howard said he thought next gen would be out by the time skyrim shipped, it was done on pc (where all games are made, even ps3 exclusives) and they just p0orted it and forced it onto the ps3 and 360, instead of porting it to ps4 and 720 like they wanted to.

PS3 gets the least attention from ports because ps3 users dont buy as many games as 360 users do. and, according to MANY devs its a pain in the ass to port to.

sux, but thats life

they should have made new consoles in 2010, 2011 at the latest

what do you expect from 8 year old hardware?

Stop making excuses for these devs! Dark Souls had frame rate issues and not really any others I ever experienced. Skyrim ate character saves, had choppy ass frame-rate, lag, constant freezing and crashing, and the whole falling through the floor. That's what I've experienced. I've also found a dragon with infinite HP who would never land, not even with the shout that's supposed to ground them. Let's not forget the backwards flying dragons.

I give you Dead Island but that is also the Dev's fault, NOT The PS3's or the 360's. We have many other games with far less to no issues at all, some of which also had a ridiculous scale. God of War 3 even had an entire level on a moving character.

Dead Space 2 had a good scale to it's maps as well.

Uncharted 2 and 3 were also ridiculously busy games.

Red Dead was a sandbox with considerably less issues as well. This is not the fault of the systems and it's about time people stopped coddling these devs and started telling them off so they'll do their jobs right.

When devs know they can get away with everything, they get lazy!

The majority of issues I hear people complaining about have their root cause in bad programming. They have nothing to do with being ported to a console.

This is why I don't buy Bethesda games until they are about a year old. By then they have done all the patching they are going to do.

I worked in game retail. And you are wrong some franchises like cod sell more on 360 but by and large ps3 has a much greater attach rate of games to system. Most ps3 gamers play a bigger range of game types than 360 only players. I love both systems and all most every body I know buys way more ps3 games than Xbox. Most likely because of hd collections.

Optical_Matrix5202d ago

Wrong. Aside from say Cod, FPS and Assassins Creed, almost every 3rd party franchise sells better on PS3. Fact.

Getting sick of unfinished games being released. I was really enjoying Skyrim until I spent half an hour on a Stormcloak mission busting some guys outta prison; I killed all the prison guards, freed all the prisoners and the game told me to speak to one of my allies to finish the mission but no matter how many times I spoke to him the mission wouldn't finish! P!ssed off I threw on Dead Island and played through the hotel mission (act 3 I think) with 3 other people, we spent ages fighting through the hotel and all we had to do to finish the mission was bring a humvee back to base - problem is the game wouldn't let any of us climb in to the driver seat! AAARRGGGHHH!

Haven't played either game since.

they can't get a 14 year old game to run smoothly?

jjb1981157d ago

That's ridiculous, lol. I'm waiting for the guy that says its too cpu-intensive for the Switch 2. This game is old af and has been released like 17 times.
