Awesome the processor being finalized and dev kits will be sent out starting in march. Hoping the GPU gets finalized soon.

It would be hilarious and ironic if MS went with a Cell-based chip. But, I highly doubt it. I'm pretty sure the PS4 will continue using the Cell architecture to preserve PS3 game compatibility, so that all PS3 games on disc and PSN will work no problem.

The war is heating up and I can't wait to see both the Xbox 720 and PS4. I hope they both release at the same time and for the same launch price. Kids in line at the stores will be fighting like crazy and yelling at each other. haha

@gamingdroid
Yeah, it would be crazy if the 720 gets announced at MS conference and then BAM Sony comes out at their conference and shows the PS4 too. haha That would make for the best E3 in a long time.

@disagree(s)
???? ??? Too scared or lazy to reply with a reason? Can I not be excited for next gen consoles?? lol

A real system on a chip that does both cpu/gpu functions. MS has good relations with amd and ibm so it makes sense to continue that relationship for the next xbox.

I was thinking they could get the custom cpu/gpu from amd seeing as amd makes both. IBM has more experience with the power pc design that has worked so well for the 360. Just make sure it is cool enough.

I don't think there's a chance in hell that Sony won't use the CELL in the ps4. They have invested to much in it and it is optimized for parallelization, which means better performance from multicore devices. Which the ps4 will be, obviously. That is why we keep hearing "the power of the CELL".

Also, SOny will probably go with Nvidia once again, to ensure backwardscompatibility as well as having an edge over the competition. If the rumours are true, then Nvidia's next chipset (Kepler was it, no?) is a huge step forward and significantly more powerful than AMD's latest.

I don't see how they wouldn't have backwardscompatibility this time around. It would be a very bad choice. A really really really bad choice.

Looks like WiiU is on Power7 45 nm. I am hoping 8 cores. 32 threads.

Still rumored to have AMD 5000 series GPU. I am thinking with this new Xbox 3 rumor specs. That WiiU has either AMD 5700, or AMD 5800 series GPU. Highest hope I see is 5870 or 5850. Knowing Nintendo I am looking at 5830 with question in mind.

Xbox 3 is on Power7+ CPU 32 nm. I am hoping 8 cores and 32 threads.

Sources say AMD 6670 GPU, but I am thinking to be 6 times as powerful as Xbox 360 this is not the 6670 GPU, but more like the AMD 6850 GPU.

What's the CPU's difference? Well potentially higher clocks and slightly more capacity for embedded RAM I believe on the + specs. Details likely won't be set in stone for announcement until later.

I am hoping this means PS4 aims for GTX 560 if NVIDIA. Looking at OpenRL though makes me wonder if Raytracing + a Multicore high end PowerVR 6 chip might come about in 2012/2013 for PS4 use.

gamingdroid5203d ago

Yeah, I cannot wait for this E3. MS gotta be prepping it!

Try and pull a Sony on Wii U i.e. what Sony did to Dreamcast to steal their thunder.

slavish5204d ago

since its CVG they probably made this up for hits :P

BlackBusterCritic5203d ago

Doesn't matter what its named, if the next Xbox follows in its predecessor's foot steps, it'll be a new chipset a year into its life. Then it'll be changed again...and again...and again...and again...and again...and then you'll finally get a "Slim" model that's reliable.

Nitrowolf25203d ago

The wii won this Gen if were're talking sales

h311rais3r5203d ago

Only 1 gen of Xbox did that. I've had just as many ps3s fail as 360s. The first Xbox didn't fail. So stop acting like all Microsoft items are bad. The ps3 had almost as high a failure rate like most electronics.

kaveti66165203d ago

Yeaaah, so what? Sony did that with the PS3 as well. The chipset kept getting smaller and thus the console was able to use less power, and produced less heat.

You say this like it's a negative. Jeez, talk about the possible lack of exclusives, talk about the questionable manufacturing process at Foxconn, talk about the possible unreliability of the launch SKUs, fine. But don't talk crap about Microsoft reducing the chip size as though it's a bad thing.

KingSlayer5203d ago (Edited 5203d ago )

I look fwd to not buying the next Xbox.

@GamingTruth
Shoot I purposefully don't give a shit.

GamingTruth5203d ago

i accidentally agreed with you

ZippyZapper5203d ago

They seem to do ok without you

QuantumWake5203d ago

As you can see that even in this article, they mention that the next Xbox will have a Southern Islands GPU. Compared to the 6670 article IGN put out the other day. So let me just remind everyone to take these rumored next-gen "specs" with a grain of salt (including this article since these specs may be subject to change down the line).

I actually had quite a laugh reading all the comments from IGN's article with people saying "WiiU is going to be more powerful than the '720'!" Or "This is because of Kinect and Microsoft's approach to "casual" services". lol

"Gaming’s Biggest Fighting Franchise"

Press X to (seriously) doubt.

Underrated comment. I used to hate that game so much that any time my siblings asked me to play it, I just picked Hom and shut myself down mid-match.

And then MK1 killed it again.

15 years went by so fast. I remember playing through the story mode at launch.
