Where Skyrim Massively Failed

Gamusutra: Why does this game, as I played it (on a gamepad), seem to ignore every interface advancement made in the past several years? Why does it ignore prior art from games like BioShock, Dark Messiah of Might & Magic, and Zeno Clash? Why does it ignore the concept of loadouts, and instead hoist “kitchen sink” item management on the player in the middle of combat?

Quote: "Cliff Bleszinski once said the future of shooters is the RPG. But it’s a two-way street. RPGs must learn from action games, and marry precise controls to their epic narratives, or they will forever be a niche product."

well,
Skyrims universal popularity & astonishing sales figures seem to render that little pearl of wisdom a tad inaccurate.

Yup, cause popularity and sales figures determine if a game is great or not.

Rowland5316d ago

nope.

but making a ridiculous statement that RPG's will forever be a 'niche' market when Skyrim & other RPG's are clearly mainstream as the incredible (and still growing) popularity & sales demonstrate is a fair (and accurate) comment.

It still needs more precise controls. I've only played a little bit of my friends game (getting my own copy later this month), but you compare the combat to Dark Souls for example and it feels dated, sluggish and overall lacking. Thats one area Skyrim needs to be updated in. The melee combat just isn't convincing at all.

I agree. Although I enjoy skyrim and TES in general, the combat is pretty underwhelming and lackluster. Especially after playing demons souls and dark souls it becomes more apparent. Swinging wildly with a sword and spamming magic just isn't that fun compared to the rest of the game that's a blast to play.

double post

i find the game extremely hard to play with gamepad, dual casting just never seems to work. And the ui, well its less sucky with mouse and keyboard. Atleast I can get to what I want in a decent amount of time.

they can't get a 14 year old game to run smoothly?

jjb1981199d ago

That's ridiculous, lol. I'm waiting for the guy that says its too cpu-intensive for the Switch 2. This game is old af and has been released like 17 times.
