Fantasy Games are Dying

Now more than ever, there is a severe lack of fantasy games in development. What used to be an entire sub-genre has now been whittled down to a couple specific games.

Has anyone heard of a game called Skyrim?

_Aarix_5273d ago

Has anyone ever heard of legend of dragoon....didn't think so.

slayorofgods5273d ago (Edited 5273d ago )

It's from the ps1 era. You have to be old enough.

Did you miss my sarcasm? Why attack such a great classic.

_Aarix_5273d ago (Edited 5273d ago )

Oh I was using counter sarcasm..you used a title everyone heard of thinking no ones heard of it and I actually used a game no one heard about. Lod is my most cherished rpg of all time.

I would actaully expect with the masive sales numbers that skyrim has put up that we could see a resurgence of the fantasy games. I mean come on its the most played game on live this month. Second most sold to MW3 that is really saying something.

ShoryukenII5273d ago

If they start making RPGs because of Skyrim, that won't be good because they'll just copy Skyrim like they copy CoD. I want developers that actually want to make RPGs to make RPGs like the developers of Dark Souls, The Witcher and Skyrim. We don't need any fakes jumping on the bandwagon (not that there is much of one).

slayorofgods5273d ago (Edited 5273d ago )

Developers always do this... Its all about the money. Yes the FPS craze has produced some games that lack creativity, but this isn't always true. The Final Fantasy craze(FF7 - FF10) produced some solid rpg's. For example, the legend of dragoon was only produced by Sony to dip into the Final Fantasy market and turned out to be a very solid game.

I feel a little more optimistic a TES craze, and at least there will be one less FPS game made for the sake of making money.

they can't get a 14 year old game to run smoothly?

jjb1981157d ago

That's ridiculous, lol. I'm waiting for the guy that says its too cpu-intensive for the Switch 2. This game is old af and has been released like 17 times.
