Rumor: NetherRealm Studios looking to develop new Killer Instinct game

Original Gamer: "An anonymous source at NetherRealm Studios has said that the Mortal Kombat developer is looking to secure the rights to develop a new Killer Instinct game. As you can guess, getting the rights for a new Killer Instinct will be tricky as Nintendo and Rare, now owned by Microsoft, have rights to the game, but in these days, anything is possible when the right amount of money is on the table."

That would be so sick. If Nintendo and MS are just going to sleep on the KI franchise, why not give to someone that would treat KI with the respect it deserves.

I just hope if NetherRealm gets the rights, they pull some of the old talent that developed the old games to collaborate on the new one. Please, make this happen.

I would assume MS wouldn't sell them the rights for KI, just have them develop the game and MS would publish it. MS might not think that first party studios are important (which is obvious when you compare their first party studios with Sony's or Nintendo's), but they still value IPs.

The guy who says 'Toasty' in Mortal Kombat has left NetherRealm after more than 30 years

Dan Forden writes: "Wednesday was my last day at Netherrealm. We made a lot of fun stuff over the years. I’m really proud of what we accomplished as well as how much fun we had making that stuff. There are so many smart, talented people there - look for more great things to emerge over the next several years. I love the little touches that people left around the studio like this little Toasty homage on the bathroom mirror.

I wouldn’t have lasted 37 years in the industry if fans weren’t out there playing the games we made. Thanks to all of you for supporting what we’ve done.

Live long and…
Toasty!"

Dan Fordens last good soundtrack was Mortal Kombat 4. A few good tracks here and there after that in MKDA-MK Armageddon but after that ..the Music in MK games and especially in the injustice games became boring background noise.
