BF3 "M" Rating explained - Nuclear Bomb threatening Paris

Battlefieldo writes:

In a recent Interview with Eurogamer.net, EA explained why Battlefield 3 received a Mature Rating by the Entertainment Software Rating Board (ESRB) in North America. This is roughly the equivalent to a rating of 18 years in other Countrys. The reason for this is a singleplayer mission where you have to shoot at the police. EA justifies this by saying that there is a nuclear bomb located in Paris which otherwise threatens to explode.

EA said to Eurogamer:

“If you put the player in front of a choice where they can do good things or bad things, they will do bad things, go dark side – because people think it’s cool to be naughty, they won’t be caught.”

“We have to build our experiences so we don’t put the player in experiences where they can do bad things.”

In response, EA issued Eurogamer the following statement:

“I don’t think you understand the gravity of the situation. For God’s sake, there is a nuke in Paris! Millions of lives are at stake!!”

Hmm.. might want either put spoiler in the heading or change the title all together. I didn't really want to know this piece of information till I found out in the game.

well its not like they gave much away...We knew there were at least a mission or two in paris just from trailers...

and a nuke in Paris...French Army no where to be found as they immediately surrendered...Allied forces gladly firing on French police, as they are simply 'in the way'...

thats not a spoiler...thats just reality har har...

jokes aside, as soon as I saw the Eiffel Tower in previews and trailers, i pretty much figured Paris was threatened by terrorism to some degree...

Fair enough, I already knew about Paris but didn't need to know about the nuke. I even avoided playing the beta so it doesn't spoil playing the finished article.

Kleptic5332d ago

I agree with that...considering they've shown next to nothing as far as the single player's story...its surprising DICE even said that...

and the beta would have only shown you what BF3's multiplayer looks like...with zero polish, and a lot of bugs...somehow it was still awesome though...

When logic meets EA it generates anti-matter ..... so try not to apply it in any meaningful way. Entropy is what matters in there !!

The community warned them this would happen but nope they knew better they continued with the live service push the made the art style cartoonish and this is the result

isarai_lee80d ago

It's always so bizarre when studios announce something super early in development under the suggestion of forming the game to player feedback, and then they push against all feedback heading straight for the cliff while everyone is warning them along the way

US Lawmakers Urge Review Of EA Sale

The Congressional Labor Caucus sent a letter to the FTC warning the debt-financed, largely PIF-owned deal could be bad news for workers

lol ya think? they're sending all that work to the cheaper labor market as soon as possible. and FYI, that labor market has exploded in the last 5-10 years. They have enough people to replace every single job. But honestly, EA is over filled with useless upper management as it is. You could probably trim 25% of their staff with no real loss in production. They aren't gamers, they're business execs. Just look at how many AI related jobs they're already starting to post. Its also hilarious that PIF owns Battle field 6

Wait,

The same congress that attacked Lina Khan when she fought the Microsoft Activision purchase.
The same congress that allowed Disney to buy 90% of Fox
The same congress that allowed Liv Golf to buy the PGA
The same congress that sits back while Paramount tries a hostile takeover despite losing the bid for Warner Bros.

NOW, the suddenly cares about doing what's "right" for works? Yeah, right.

No. There were elections and some of the scum were replaced.

EA now owned by The Saudis and Ubisoft to inevitably be owned by China. In hindsight, once EA and Ubisoft started having their financial woes, they should have pulled a Koei Tecmo/Bandai Namco by merging their operations into one.
