Sony, Team Meat Bashing Developer Apologizes for 'Loud Mouth'

Last week, IndustryGamers heard from an up-and-coming indie developer who had some harsh words for Sony and the PlayStation Network, and independent developer Team Meat, which has been vocal about a lack of support from Microsoft. Guillaume Boucher-Vidal, Studio Manager at Nine Dots Studio Inc., now regrets his choice of words, however, and he asked us to publish an apology letter.

Here it is in full.

So he apologizes, then bashes Sony PR for 'bashing' Microsoft?

Neither companies are angels. Greenburg and co. have done their fair-share of Sony bashing. I'd argue things aren't looking good for MS/360, so they're just an easy target for Sony, er, Kevin Butler.

fear885366d ago

Is this guy serious? Has he never heard what Aaron Greenburg says on a regular basis? This guy is laughable. Not Sony.

Talk about calling the kettle black.

If hes this bad at observation and communication skills I don't think his game will be very good if he has to work on a dev team.

I feel sorry for the people who have to put up with him at work.

gamingdroid5366d ago

Actually, this guy not only got balls to talk, but will also provide an apology when he is wronged.

I like him!

Gamer30005366d ago

i don't know how you have all those bubbles

Seventh_Blood_Reborn5365d ago (Edited 5365d ago )

I totally agree with Gamer3000, I can' t help but asking myself the same thing.

Not that it can be used as a yardstick, and it doesn' t count much ( maybe nothing ), but I almost never agree with you gamingdroid.
Your comments are expressing your distance with what is really happening.

will_c_755366d ago

Exactly what I thought when I read this. Has he never watched an MS E3 show? They are always trying land sneaky remarks.

units5366d ago

"I think I am being frustrated to see Sony's PR bad-mouthing Microsoft at every corner while Microsoft almost never strikes back at them, even during the PSN fiasco"

badjournalism5366d ago

bullshit. Aaron Greenberg has repeatedly and regularly bashed and attacked Sony. Peter Moore did the same shit before he went to EA. Enjoy your Kool-aid, while the rest of us watch them both attacking back and forth.

smashcrashbash5366d ago (Edited 5366d ago )

Exactly. I love how people pretend Microsoft's cronies are some sort of saints. They take swipes at Sony too. Aaron Greenberg, Peter Molyneax, Turn 10, all of them try to put down Sony's efforts whether its directly or with backhanded comments. @ units, please lets not pretend that Microsoft isn't quick with the mud slinging and negative comments against Sony too. Don't act like its one sided. This guy is a nobody indie developer who never made a game for PSN. His opinion and apologies mean nothing.

gamingdroid5366d ago

Maybe I'm wrong about this, but MS comments are usually we sell better than the competition and we have a better product.

I don't think they ever criticized Sony's policies like Sony did or even publish videos (like the ones with Kevin Butler) to directly attack a competitor.

Maybe I'm wrong, and maybe somebody can post some proof and show me wrong.

That said, each company is huge so I expect some idiots to make their way there.

MrManchild5366d ago

Do you have any examples for us?

badjournalism5366d ago

Here's an example of Greenberg attacking, Google has lots more:

http://www.gamefront.com/mi...

MrManchild5366d ago

@badjournalism: He was answering a question from an interviewer.

kreate5366d ago

isnt it kind of illogical to state one major corporation bashes another and the other major corporation doesnt bash back?

truly ppl have forgotten how bad things were for sony back in 2006-2007.

trouble_bubble5366d ago (Edited 5366d ago )

"I think I am being frustrated to see Sony's PR bad-mouthing Microsoft at every corner while Microsoft almost never strikes back at them,"

LMAO! Just as I said before, these disgruntled QA guys really need to bite their tongues. He just put his foot in his mouth again.

I don't have enough bubbles to get into all Aaron Greenberg's stick poking about everything Sony has had their PS3 fingers in over the years from PSN, BluRay, 3D, web browsing on a console/TV, exclusives, the PS Store, unified friends lists, Home, Move etc. I'll just pick one of Greenberg's more humble quotes:

http://www.eurogamer.net/ar...
Re. PS Home..."It doesn't feel like it broadens the experience and invites people in. When they unveiled it, it seemed innovative. I think what's happened is now here we are a couple of years later and we feel beyond that. It feels like 2005 tech in 2008. I'm not sure that's what people want." Greenberg added that, at least in his mind, there is still a "huge gap" between the quality offered by Xbox Live to that of Home.

Fast forward a couple years to their own remixed Mii avatars (Bang there it is!) and avatar app XBL GameRoom *rollseyes*.

refocusedman5366d ago

Microsoft didnt comment on the psn fiasco because it can just as easily happen to them as it has happened to so many other companies (fortune 500 companies on top of that). I really dont think it had anything to do with being tactful. The truth is hacking can and generally does affect everyone.

Gamer30005366d ago

of course those true words to you
you only approve the anti ps3 articles

Sobari5366d ago

I shall keep this apology in my heart when I don't buy whatever game you make.

mandf5366d ago

the bashing never started until MS entered the console race. Sony and Nintendo respected each other. Sony got bashed for 2 years constantly by MS and crew. Sony is just playing by their rules. The only reason MS didn't bash Sony over the PSN hack is because it could happen to them with greater consequences because it's a paid service. LESSON don't talk smack when you don't know what you are talking about.

Oner5366d ago (Edited 5366d ago )

Now those ^^^ are "truer words"! + Agree & Well Said

gamingdroid5366d ago (Edited 5366d ago )

Sega does what Nintendon't!

... and have we all forgotten how Sony bashed their customers?

"[PS3 is] for consumers to think to themselves 'I will work more hours to buy one'. We want people to feel that they want it, irrespective of anything else." -- Toyo Keizai, 07/05

http://www.joystiq.com/2005...

have we all forgotten Ken Kutaragi (Vice President of Sony and father of Playstation) quotes?

"The Xbox 360 is more of an Xbox 1.5 than a next generation console." -- Impress PC Watch, 05/05

http://www.1up.com/news/cel...

On the competition from Microsoft and Nintendo: "We do not care."

On the price of PS3 again: "It's probably too cheap... If you can have an amazing experience, we believe price is not a problem."

On Microsoft: "Beating us for a short moment is like accidentally winning a point from a Shihan [karate master], and Microsoft is still not a black belt."

http://www.gamesradar.com/o...

Infernostew5366d ago

It was Genesis does what Nintendon't.

mandf5366d ago (Edited 5366d ago )

Sega and Nintendo didn't slander each other every chance they got. Today it is out of control. I old school and believe you should let your games do the talking. It's called class. Nintendo and Sega had very few verbal arguments back in the day. Today trash talking is the norm.

Noticeably_FAT5366d ago

That is very well said, oh how they all forget. None of the companies are innocent, but I tend to think Sony does more bashing then any of the others. They said DS was for kids and nobody would want to bring one on a plane, they also said motion controls were a gimmick and that they weren't into gimmicks.
Then they bash Nintendo yet again saying the Wii is a lollipop and they are too old for lollipops, then release a motion controller that looks like a damn lollipop....hypocrisy never ends I guess.

MrBeatdown5366d ago (Edited 5366d ago )

Wow. First of all, you consider that first quote "bashing their customers?" I'm baffled as to how you can see that as bashing customers.

Anyway, I'm not sure why you feel the need to list out all those comments in response to mandf who didn't make any kind of claim that Sony doesn't do any bashing of the competitor, but rather, only commented on when and why it began. Nothing you said disputed his point. But since you want to focus solely on what Sony says, I'll help balance it out for you with a few winners from Microsoft.

Here, let's start with this gem...

"We don't feel like the Wii customer and the Xbox customer are the same thing," Rodman reportedly said. "We think that as soon as the Wii customer turns 14, they want something else."
http://wii.ign.com/articles...

Not just bashing the Wii. Bashing Wii customers too. Classy. Not to mention hypocritical considering MS has paraded kids around the stage at the past two E3s, playing with Skittles and Elmo.

And then we have this comment about PSN...

"My honest opinion is that it's pretty much a disaster. They keep saying that they have a free service. Well, if they don't have anything, of course it's free. And you know what: what's free about $600?"

As if calling PSN a "disaster" wasn't enough and suggesting free online play, a feature important to millions is "nothing," they also said this about the PS3 launch in the same interview...

"It's going to take [Sony] a couple of years to get up to speed on this, and I'm not sure that they necessarily have the talent, or it's built into who they are as a company."
http://gaming.hexus.net/con...

Insinutating your competitor is talentless. Always a nice touch, especially when the PS1, PS2, and PSP clearly proved otherwise. Oh, and then they had this to say about PS3's mandatory install in GTA4 in a PRESS RELEASE...

"I'm sure you've all seen the chatter from the 1up GTA IV Preview on the PS3 install time....just a few thoughts on what you could do in this time if you were actually playing the 360 version from the moment you insert the disc..."
http://gamernode.com/news/6...

Not only do they mock an issue on the PS3 (while throwing the PS3 version of a third-party game under the bus to do it), but it's also pretty funny, considering Rockstar themselves said the lack of a hard drive and the DVD size limit posed problems during the game's development.

Well except for the Crash Banticoot comercials. Those where funny.

http://www.youtube.com/watc...

will_c_755366d ago

Actually, in all my years of gaming, it has only been Nintendo not doing any bashing. When Genesis came out, Sega had Sonic commercials bashing Nintendo. Then when the Ps1 came out Sony unleashed Crash on Nintendo.

gamingdroid5366d ago (Edited 5366d ago )

I don't remember many Nintendo commercials, but then again the internet wasn't as widespread back then so information isn't disseminated as fast. You are not going to hear about PR people quotes from a magazine or in the news.

In terms of bashing commercials, I can only remember Sega's (Nintendon't) and Sony's Kevin Butler.

However, Nintendo does seem to just do their thing and not say much. I respect them very much for their humbleness!

MrManchild5366d ago

Hah! If anything, Sony is bashing the competition less than then company did back in 04-06. They were acting like arrogant douchebags back then.

And Sony respecting Nintendo? Was that a poor attempt at a joke? Try looking up Koller or Tretton's comments about the DS and the Wii.

Microsoft is not innocent, but don't try to act as if they're the sole reason for Sony's bashing of MS.

trouble_bubble5366d ago (Edited 5366d ago )

@mandf
I think it's partly because Sony & Nintendo are Japanese and have both been around the block. The natural and earned respect is there. Jabs are more easily brushed off. You can see it even with the fanbase. The amount of Nintendo love seen in all the UGC made in the two LittleBigPlanet games is astounding. Mario, Metroid, DonkeyKong, there's even a ZELDA level STICKIED by MediaMolecule.

And that 'Genesis does' campaign was freaking kiddy recess stuff compared to where guys like Peter Moore took it when he worked for MS before eating crow and winding up working for Sony's best bud this gen', EA.

Far as Kevin Butler, the only "bashing" he's done was the "pew pew" spot and that never even aired on TV or as a print campaign like Genesis Does. It was viral.

"You are not going to hear about PR people quotes from a magazine"
You still get brand loyal PR, it's just relagated to fist-pumping in interviews and/or staff editorials. In a recent Official XBox magazin, they put down the PS3 Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2 for how Team Ninja modified the violence, while forgetting to mention the extra content.

Rolling the Dice: Do Modern RPGs Miss the Point of Team-Based Play?

It seems it was long time ago. A bunch of friends spending hours on end playing RPG games, sitting around the table with the box of cold pizza. Excited about the story, listening to the Game Master, they were completely engaged in the worlds only visible to them and their imaginations.

The GM is the programmer, and in MMOs and co-ops, you can play with others. If you want to ONLY use your imagination for the visuals, read a book.

1) Hope they put it on disc this time.
2) Hope this is a positive for Neptune coming over as well.

Demons Souls5848d ago

If so, that's being developed & published by Idea Factory. Compile Heart has nothing to do with it (Thank God for that).

Godmars2905848d ago (Edited 5848d ago )

Thought Compile Heart was one of the companies lending characters.

Was also speaking in general as in regards to a US of Neptune. If these guys are offing a second game, NIS or Atlus, both of whom offer quirkier titles, will put that one out.

@kagon01:
My issue isn't - wholly - with the DL-only option, but the price. The first game should be $30. Maybe $40, and by that I mean $39.99. The only reason its $45 is the 360 disc version which has extras. Nevermind that by all rights its a PS2 game. Something that proabbly could have been done if the devs had the GOW2 engine or tools.

ClownBelt5848d ago

I approve of this god damn message.

Could have gotten my 60 bucks if they just put it on a disc.

Jack-Pyro5848d ago

Is this a half decent SRPG, porn aside, cause if it is, i might just decide to go and buy it for the 360.

Anon73495848d ago

There's no porn just some sexual innuendos but that's it.

Also it is a great game by itself, maybe not graphically but everything else is top tier.

RedDevils5848d ago

so it had some kind of "top tier" porn story jk

ThanatosDMC5848d ago

Yup, it's a decent game. I just hate that a move has to go first before any attack options.
