Just give us the Xbox 720, no need for the 360.

byeGollum5343d ago

thank goodness we don't have folks like you in charge of the decision-making over a Microsoft's :P

For once, I actually agree with Greenwalt.

Well metaphorized sir. *respect*

Mark Rein said we would see Unreal 4 in 2014. It is targeted toward PCs and next gen consoles. I have no doubt an Unreal 4 game will be a launch title on the 720 and PS4.

But there are several ways to take that remark. Does that mean an Unreal 4 game will be on the market in 2014? Will we only be shown the engine, perhaps at GDC? Or we will see a trailer for an Unreal 4 powered title in 2014 that will arrive on shelves in 2015? Either way you take it, the earliest such a remark puts a new console on the market is 2014.

I do not really see the Wii U as a generational leap over the current gen. And that is where Nintendo has done themselves a disservice.

i realy hate when someone say "Us or We"
when he only say his own opinion

Edit :
i'm an xbox360 owner and i don't agree

CrazyOrange5343d ago

He is referring to everyone agrees with him.

SITH5343d ago

I agree r4mbo. Games like battlefield on Xbox could look, and play much better with more up to date hardware. Yes time will need to pass for devs to figure out the 72o. But the only way for it to happen is be delivered. So give it to us gamers and devs. I am ready for a new Xbox.

_Aarix_5343d ago

Until they start looking as beautiful as gears of war ill believe we need new hardware. Even epic said they can still squeeze out more out of it.

JellyJelly5343d ago

We haven't seen what the final version of Battlefield 3 looks like yet.

SITH5343d ago

We know battlefield console doesn't have the player count the pc. we know it will not look equal too or probably even close to the PC version. We know plenty of other pc, console games won't be equal like that and the gap had been steadily growing. That is what I need to justify my need for a new console and gaming pc.

krazykombatant5343d ago

@_Aarix_ Gears is only "beautiful" cuz they added a color palette to the game. The past 2 games have been grey.

360 reached its peak in graphics a while back. I'm not saying that I want the next 360 because I want it to be better looking. I want the next console so I can start getting games with 64 players like PC is getting with BF3

banner5343d ago

@krazy

We don't need a new console to have more players online, the 360 can handle that it's just no game has been made that needs that many players and just cause it has that many players it doesn't make it a must have just look at mag.

And how far back are you talking? Crysis2 gears3? Forza 4? Cause all those look great but I'm sure you disagree.

If all that matters to you is graphics and player count then you really shouldn't look any farther than your pc. Just rebuild it again and you'll always be ahead of the game minus a few games.

Legion5343d ago

@SITH

You know for me there is a point to the number of players where a game just has too many people. Right now I am playing the demo of Battlefield 3 on my console and the number of people is just right.

Big battles are fun... but get as many as 20 or more people on my team and I just start loosing the fun of the game and choke points in the game are even harder to coordinate through.

Balance is very important for enjoyment in games. Too few and you might as well be playing solo. Too many and you feel like you are not fully participating in the battle. Squads do help out, but the fun in being able to communicate with your whole team to collectively make war is the name of the game.

LeoDDestroyer5342d ago

@banner though mag wasn't popular like other titles doesn't mean it wasn't good just not a casual game. With all the players in mag it still was and is well organize between the squads. I wish more devs would look at mag party system and chat structure especially in the more team oriented game types.

I dont get why every dev across the 2 consoles (360,ps3) say they can get more out of the console.
For the most part both the 360 and ps3 wont ever get to the max because the processors could easily handle the data, but the graphics cards are limited.
Dont get me wrong, I know better programming techniques and graphics coding is possible but it can only go so far.

Im sure if a developer upgraded the graphics cards it would allow for better graphics, for the next gen they need to find a way of 'unlocking cores' if the cores are shut off via firmware...and activated via updates.
I mean intel have something similar going on now, and Nvidia/ATI (AMD) are looking at something like that.

koouunn5343d ago

graphics are not everything, wats important is not having to play a game on 6 discs, that ,my biggest gripe

Legion5343d ago

@koouunn

Really... that is your biggest gripe? I am assuming that you are enjoying your PS2 and/or Xbox right now seeing that you don't need top notch graphics to have fun and haven't upgraded to the PS3 or Xbox 360?

Morpheuzpr5342d ago

@Legion You need to play Xenoblade Chronicles then. Great game on the Wii FYI and graphics aren't AWZUM but that doesn't stop it from been more than enjoyable.

JsonHenry5343d ago

I'm with R4mbo, I'm ready for the next xbox myself.

Gotta love his van analogy.

ConstipatedGorilla5342d ago

I own a van and I didn't find his comment very amusing.

SilentNegotiator5343d ago (Edited 5343d ago )

He doesn't so much comment on new hardware as he is ASKED about new hardware.

Gamersmint "journalist": "Xbox 720?"
D-Walt: "Well, we're enjoying working towards perfecting what we can do on current hardware and...."
Gamersmint "journalist": "Xbox 720??"
D-Walt: "I...."
Gamersmint "journalist": "XBOX 720??!?!?"
D-Walt: *Steps back*
Gamersmint "journalist": "XBOX 720?!?! XBOX 720! Xbox 720! Dang it, Greenwalt, say something we can turn into a headline!!"

Grip5343d ago

i Loled hard on ur comment. thanks

josephayal5343d ago

We need more exclusives (plz no FPS with aliens) not the 720

adamant7155343d ago

Lol seriously? No FPS without aliens? Oh yeah, Microsoft should just abandon their biggest franchise because one person doesn't want an FPS with aliens in it. Gimme a break!

SilentNegotiator5343d ago (Edited 5343d ago )

I believe "more" suggested that he wanted MORE games that are NOT what he described in parentheses. I really don't think he was saying "Dump Halo!"

And who doesn't want more original titles?

BISHOP-BRASIL5343d ago

That's definetely something to go after. It's not so much about games with space marines or not, the fact is this gen didn't have half the good games we had in the last one... This generation didn't had that many games to start with. The PS2 alone had 10,828 games released (of which probably 3/4 were crap), more than the combined number of games released for PS3, Xbox 360 and Wii, both in physical media or online...

I'm not saying, someone should just rush and release 5,000 games, I also take quality over quantity, but the impression this gen is giving me is that it simply underdelivered on variety, with the lack of quantity comes the lack of diversity.

I would be pressed to make a top 25 games list this gen just as much as in the last one, but go for a top 100 list and you'll see what I mean. Blame it on development costs, overexposure in media and internet, gamers are older and don't spend that much time playing anymore, maybe games just aren't that popular on consoles as before (many small developers simply moved to the mobile market)...

Overanalyse it the way you want. Personally I blame it on devs spending more time bitching about stupid stuff on the internet than developing games. :)

xoxideu5343d ago

We need more space marines

Belasco5343d ago

As opposed to a FPS where your in a desert shooting humans in the face? I think modern military shooters are far more boring and tapped out than scifi.

Squatch835343d ago

Does that mean it will have working backwards compatability, unlike the 360?

lategamer5343d ago

A lot of 360 titles are backwards compatable, not all, but a very good amount.

Not looking good. Hopefully Asha Sharma is able to turn Phil’s disaster around.

dveio20d ago

To me it's still quite remarkable how they can cash-in 5.3bn in revenue in a single quarter, since their hardware is basically dead.

Jingsing20d ago

The stock mark is what makes Microsoft remarkable, They have convinced every institutional and retail investor to just keep piling money into them. Like many big tech giants they are just a big growing pyramid scheme. As long as people keep dropping money into ETF's that cover the market Microsoft will always be liquid. At the same time it is completely stifling innovation and competition. People need to start being more discreet in how they invest their money as it's killing the system.

Tanktopmaster9220d ago

Once they re-evaluate exclusive all will be fine….

S2Killinit20d ago

Riiiiight because people will just flock back to them for one or two games per year.

Jingsing20d ago

15+ years of bad performance is what they call irreparable in business. It is time for them to sell off the assets and get out of entertainment.

Tanktopmaster9219d ago

These declines are on the back of extra revenue received from releasing games like Forza horizon 5 on PlayStation. So I’m being sarcastic here when I said they should go back to exclusives. Killing off a revenue stream from Ps5 sales will only make things worse

When does this end? Its killing everyone. Consoles and PC. And for what? AI? The benefits of AI are completely outweighed by the negatives. And the government should have never allowed one company to buy up all the RAM.

Lexreborn222d ago

This kind of proves this is an after thought product, most products like this are in r&d 5 years before they start mass producing. So they typically have the cost of components and things worked out long before assembly starts.

This is an assumption still, but I wouldn’t be surprised if project helix is similar to Scalebound, perfect dark and sod3. They had an idea but no actual execution other than concept stage. Being impacted by the ram shortage likely would also put this device 3-4 years out.

I’m not even sure MS has that endurance with Xbox yet

Fishy Fingers22d ago (Edited 22d ago )

I mean.... what?

We're at a point that Samsung wont even provide their own phone department ram because they can sell it at higher prices to 3rd parties (AI). Its more profitable to sell the ram than make their own devices with it.

You think because R&D starts 5 years ago the 3rd party component manufacturers will honour that price? They'll sell it to whomever is paying the most today, not some gentlemens agreement they made years ago. AI farms will buy more volume at higher prices than any console manufacturer will. It'll be the same for Playstation.

Lexreborn221d ago

Contractual agreements are not the same as “gentlemen” agreements. If you think that they work with their distributors a month before production then their entire business model is trash. They work with companies like nvidia constantly for building the graphics cards they need. They work with companies that build motherboards years in advance. This is what proper business planning does.

They are not buying components on a whim like a consumer. So again, considering the ram isn’t a singular module and is integrated into the motherboard I highly doubt they wouldn’t have a final schematic that they are supposed to be building around.

If they are delaying production another 3 years then it’s obvious again this is an after though project and is just trying to be responsive to their bad execution they had the last 14 years.

It also isn’t far fetched to use their failure to produce first party titles the last 7 years including the highly anticipated games I mentioned all being cancelled. That they would continue to you know… lie

Sitdown22d ago

You don't really know how this works huh?

Profchaos22d ago (Edited 22d ago )

Helix is going to be stupidly expensive

Instead of leaning into smarter upscaling techniques they're brute forcing hardware that will cost them dearly and it remains to be seen if it's genuinely going to provide a meaningful differential

I know in the oc.doace people like to brag about not using frame gen or dlss to get to high on a game but for the majority of players they happily use those technologies without a second thought

That's going to be ps6 vs Helix

Eonjay21d ago

Yeah with FSR 5 they should be able to offer a much cheaper version of Helix.

Eonjay21d ago

While this does seem to be the case, I am encouraged by the statement from Microsoft about wanting to provide affordable options. If this means a Series S style Helix, at least there will be something affordable being offered.

XBManiac21d ago

Series S is what has killed Xbox Series so... Will they dare?

blacktiger22d ago

It's called systematic inflationary. Yes we get it Microsoft, keep raising in the name ofall kinds of stuffs

pwnmaster300022d ago

Honestly if there was thing I learned from this generation is that new consoles arnt day one anymore.
I can wait 1-3 years.

DarXyde22d ago

Another important lesson from this generation: while Nintendo showed us that prices don't necessarily need to ever drop, we've now learned that waiting 1-3 years does carry some risk that prices increase. This generation is just bizarre in all the wrong ways.

LucasRuinedChildhood22d ago (Edited 22d ago )

The factors are largely external. Covid and Russia-Ukraine war causing inflation led to the first price increase in 2022.

Then we get Trump's tariffs increasing hardware prices, AI boom causing a RAM crisis, war on Iran causing a worldwide fuel crisis which impacts the cost of everything.

Gaming doesn't exist in a vacuum. The last few years have been a shitshow and lot of it was definitely avoidable.

DarXyde21d ago

LucasRuinedChildhood,

For sure. No disagreement on the external factors doing a lot of this. Where I have to gently push back however is on two fronts:

1. The pandemic definitely caused some issues: asynchronous development was a big issue and really complicated timelines and affected game quality. At the same time, when it comes to price hikes, it's really difficult to know what was genuine necessity and what was taking consumers for a ride. The pandemic brought about "stag-flation" which was increasing prices and stagnant wages, which was a problem caused by supply chain constraints. There was also "Greed-flation", where companies that were slightly affected or had no issues took advantage of the situation and squeezed everyone citing supply chain issues when there were none.

2. It's definitely true that the tariffs, AI boom, and RAM crisis were all things enabled by tech broligarchs throwing money at this caricature of a world leader, one of them being Satya Nadella. I don't think Sony and Nintendo have contributed much to this problem if at all, but Microsoft's Nadella I feel was instrumental in causing every one of those issues. Microsoft as a company contributed to both candidates (though they gave Harris 4x as much if I recall), but Nadella was all in on letting AI run wild. He paid for unregulated AI, and got a war that's not a war (even though Trump called it that at least five times on television) that screwed up helium access. So for me, I feel that one of the players in the gaming industry is a key architect of these issues, and for that reason I struggle a bit to think of it as "external".

A good start would be to release games to go with the console. My Xbox Series X has gathered dust virtually from launch. My advice would be to ditch a next console and release games on PC, PlayStation and Switch. Another idea would be a hybrid console based on Xbox Series X tech and go the same route as Nintendo. Another idea would be to pull out of gaming altogether. Plenty of options there.

Reaper22_21d ago

Why would they pull out? They have the momentum. Sony has been getting nothing but bad news lately.
