PS4 would be nice but it won't come until the Xbox 720 pops its head out of the bush. Right now I am quite content with my PS3. Although I hope the PS4 when it does arrive I hope its a graphics powerhouse.

Hey I'm ready when Sony is ready. After what I've seen with the PS Vita I can tell they are going to make a hell of a system. They have learned a lot from their past mistakes with the PS3. And the fact that they have so many first party dev will give MS and Nintendo hard time with the next console.

The next-generation of gaming doesn't start until Sony releases the PS4. I couldn't be anymore happier with my PS3,and the PS3 still has alot of juice left in it. Sony knows what they are doing and they will release the PS4 when the right time comes.

PS3 has plenty of juice. It's not dried out like the 360.

I see PS4 in 2014 because Sony don't want PS4 to overshadow Vita. Vita has to have it's spot light 1st.

When PS4 comes out I won't get it until it gets its slim/energy/whatever version(and it so has to be able to play ps3 titles.

That is such the coy statement...when devs max out the PS3? You could make the argument now that the PS3 is maxed out by games like BF3 which shows clearly that the PC version is far better than the PS3 one...one which the PS3 can't handle.

That said, the PS3 still has life and years ahead. Games will continue to improve, etc...

The PS3 (and the 360) is maxed out, and if I didn't already happen a while ago (you could easily argue years ago) - 720p, 30 fps is reason enough for a hardware upgrade in my opinion - it most certainly is now that we're seeing more or less severe visual or framerate trade-offs to make the most graphically intensive games run in stereoscopic 3D, of which Sony is such a big proponent (something I fully support as I love my 3D TV and would love to use it more frequently for gaming without feeling I'm crippling the experience).

I imagine a PS4 in 2012 is extremely unlikely, but I'm certainly hoping it's going to be no later than 2013 then.

Developers already maxed out the PS3, just look at EA, Ubisoft and the other developers comments about current generstion consoles, they are very limited about it.

In that case has there been a secret PS4 release after Unchartered 2, as in my opinion, the PS3 hit it's best when U2 came out. No game has, or will beat it visually on consoles....it can only be bettered through artstyle, & new found tricks of the trade to cheat us visually.

I love my PS3, but unfortunately due to the timeframe, massive speculation of new machines on horizon, the impending release of wii-u, & the fact that Sony are releasing a handheld that outshines PS3 powerwise in one of the most important areas in the ram department, & I can't help but wishing on the next gen. I just want MS & Sony to make there machines blow Wii-U out of the water, spec & power wise, instead of trying to mimick that stupid, gimmicky looking tablet controller thing. I mean, Nintendo are possibly setting a bar that means if Wii-U sells so well that the other 2 feel obliged to release similar type controllers, that we may have to pay as much as we are paying now for a console just to get new controller, or buy extra controllers to play multiplayer.
In other words, Nintendo are going out of there way to discourage same console multiplayer gaming & diminish it more than Xbox & lesser so PS brands have with online gaming.

If most AAA Dev studios are commenting on the continually growing spread between PC visuals and that of both core consoles versions on their latest titles... Is that not saying they are maxing out the console? I most certainly am not just dogging on any platform here, (I am pro-gamer of good games period) but, I am sure Naughty Dog would love to be working with near current PC. I also would like to point out ROCKSTEADY Batman:AC recent comment and Id's coming RAGE. We obviously are already maxing the PS3 out. I will happily, play the games, on my PS3... but would love to see them push forward a PS4 with multi-core and massive memory. I do not want to have to go back to building a new PC every 4 years.

Sounds good to me. We need more quality games this gen. Developers don't seem to work hard enough at optimizing their games to take advantage of the hardware they're on.

My gut tells me when the next Sony console comes out not only will it be extremely more powerful then the PS3 it will also launch at $300, Sony will take a lost but they will come out at a very competitive price point.

Now that psp has a base model no wifi they should do the same with ps3 for the single players as they dont like gaming online much.

tbh i think when gow4 comes out after few months or 1 year max that's when we will see ps4 cz gow games always used full power of any sony console. ps2 they made 2 gow games one middle of the ps2 lifespan and 2nd near the end, same for psp as well so im 99% sure they will do the same for ps3.

Every console manufacturer stated at the launch of the last console cycle that they start developing the next gen console as soon as current gen is launched. Nextbox and PS4 have been in development for 5-6 years.

Second the same thing happens every console cycle. At the end of the cycle for one year, two years before launch, the manufacturers swear up and down they are not going to come out with a new platform. But the rumors will fly left and right about the next gen. Then a year - year and a half before launch an announcement will be made at a convention and some hardware will be shown off.

Everything is on track to be by the book. We are currently in the rumor year. Sony Launches a new platform 7 years in to the old platform...that puts timing at 2013. The vita is launching during the same time as the psp did. It performs identically to the ps3, as the psp did to the ps2. Numerous studios (particularly Bethesda in reference to skyrim) have already mentioned that they had the option to develop for next gen or have next gen hardware to work on (Id, Insomniac, Naughty Dog).

So please for the love of god quit acting like there is some big question mark over the topic. For those that don't want a new console....you have to realize many, including myself have owned my consoles since launch and are on my 2nd PS3 and 900th xbox. The Xbox is a multi disk pain in the ass and it is clear the PS3 has hit the ceiling with it's interface improvements. It is time for new hardware........as for those think it will be a loss in creative game making...please. The only thing that has been creative this generation is how to fleece the consumer for more money.

Sony isn't going to sit on their hands until a certain achievement is made. This is a business. With WiiU coming out it would be a smart business move to release shortly there after to take a bite out of it's sales.

I think we all know that there is room to grow. No one is going to wait until they hit a brick wall. They will switch lanes and keep powering through.

If the PS3 isn't maxed yet then why can't it do BF 3 with 64 players? Scratch that, why can't it do Killzone 3 with 32 players? Why isn't there full scene 4X AA in all PS3 titles? Why isn't there native 1080p in all PS3 games?

Blu Ray = already developed & paid for....Cell chip = already developed & well...not exactly paid for I assume....but both technologies were made with PS3 & PS4 in mind (amongst other electronic devices), Blu Ray is just a given to go in PS4 unless Sony are totally bonkers & want to lose money............and the Cell was developed with the benefit of being able to be clumped together & work in unison as one. So 2 means double processing power, 3 means triple, etc,etc in theory.. All Sony needs to is find the company making the best suited & most powerful graphics chip & get these things rolling off the production line with a PS4 stamp on front, for me & other early adoptors to buy

So the PS4 is coming out next week then? All joking aside I have no doubt we will see some quality titles on both systems before this generation is over but to me both PS3 and 360 are feeling tired. Uncharted, Gears, God of War, Halo, Resistance, Fable, Infamous etc...

I'm not as concerned about a leap in graphics as I am in new IPs.

The Playstation 3 is already maxed out A game called Battlefield did it. Even Crysis 2 did also because the console versions are not rendering even remotely what the PC version is doing in regards to real time lighting and real time effects.

Like BF3 on the PC in realtime or like a game like Metro 2033, then the PS3 hit its limit.

I own all 3 consoles and am an avid fan of all of them. In my opinion, you have 3 battling forces: graphic fidelity, storage space, and cost. From the pics of the new engines released by Epic and Crytek, it is really hard for me to see such a massive increase in graphic fidelity of the games to justify the cost. We are reaching a threshold in eyesight where we will not be able to distinguish better and better graphics so the next generation, in order to really impress us with graphics, would have to really go out in hardware. This equates to a SUBSTANTIAL increase in cost which I feel none of the 3 console makers will be able to offset with subsidizing. That being said, it makes sense for Xbox division to come out of the gate first because their storage media of choice, DVD, is really becoming a major bottleneck. So, maybe with this next generation, we just might see a minor upgrade rather than a quantum leap. However, I feel nothing will be released earlier than 2013...

What Sony is really saying is that the PS4 won't come out until they feel it can be more powerful than the Wii U and next XBOX yet still be easy to develop for, cost effective for developers and consumers.

Traditionally the most powerful systems available to do not do very well because the are too expensive for the consumers and to much of a hassle to make games for. It doesn't do Sony any good to make a system so much more powerful that developers have such a hard time getting a grasp of the hardware that it takes many years just to make one title.

In this economic climate companies have to look for the most cost-efficient way to make money. Sony lost (and still is losing) a TON of cash on the PS3. Financially they cannot make a new system anytime soon. I wouldn't expect to see the PS4 any earlier than 2014 UNLESS the Wii U just storms out of the gate and does huge numbers. Sony has proven to be very 'reactionary' to what Nintendo does.

PS3 cannot do party chat because of the ram so I reckon they need one a lot sooner.

I don't want a new console even after 10 years cycle.. games are games, I don't see anything changing much besides graphics.

sony & other partners working with sony on the next playstation console have been dropping hints & clues way back before the launch of PS3 & years after the launch of PS3 so it should be pretty obvious what to expect from the next playstation console.

I mean I just bought my PS3 a couple of years ago. There are so many great games to be played that haven't come out yet or that I missed. I am going to have to pass. I already own a ps2 and a ps3. I cannot own a third console. That is just too much. They would have to make the Ps4 BC for both of those consoles for me to even consider it.

I'm ready for the ps4 as soon as sony is but i'm in no rush for it.I'm too busy enjoying my ps3 with all the great games coming out plus the ones I haven't experienced yet.

Regardless of when the PS4 and Xbox 720 hit, they better have a quad core CPU, 4-8GB RAM and the equivalent of a 5850 or GTX 460 at least. Probably even more considering the next gen consoles will start out at about $400+!

This gen hasn't been the best for games, last gen consoles are still out there and now there's been talk of the PS6 and Xbox Two for a year or so. Many games this gen will be ported to next gen and the cycle will continue. The re-release of the Neo Geo AES+, games on cartridge for £70 ($95), gaming is going back in time. Gaming has gone pricing mad with the high cost of games, consoles and controllers. The men and women at the top are clueless.

That said, there are usually multiple sides to decisions at that level. It could be less about not “listening” and more about differences in long-term vision for PlayStation. I miss the first three generations of PlayStation. The way they turned PS3 around, we knew they meant business. We were all worried for a bit there around launch. Eventually from 2008 they started shifting slowly. But since Yoshida was fired, it's never been the same. Still enjoy my PS5 daily. I got a backlog dating back to PS2 lol So I'm fine but new games aren't as appealing anymore.

It seems like we were thrown on to the worst timeline possible where everything is too expensive and the wrong people were put in positions that makes the world a shitty place. We could have had Shu as the head of PS but we got the shitty alternative. Same goes for everyone in power around the world. Doesn’t matter the company or country the majority of us got the shitty picks and the world is declining like never before. I do think PS can come out of this because of their studios, talent and IP but they need someone more in touch with gamers leading things like Shu was. They’re still the best place for console gaming imo but it could be much better than it is especially without the massive live service failures. The rest of the world I have a lot less hope for right now. Hopefully the pendulum swings back towards the good ole days but I’m preparing for the worst.

seems legit, the business man, fires the one who has ideas to move the business forward.

Jim Ryan is the reason why we are entering year 6 since the PS5 launch and many of us don't feel like the PS5 has gotten started as yet.
