2K Marin Developing an Xbox 360 Exclusive

Despite not having the same number of first party studios as Sony or Nintendo, Microsoft has generally managed to keep up with their rivals when it comes to exclusive titles. However, with more and more developers moving on to Kinect, or going multiplatform, the 360's core exclusive lineup is looking rather weak. Fret not 360 fans, Bioshock 2 developers 2K Marin are working a 360 exclusive.

That candidate description makes me feel ALIVE!

"Microsoft has generally managed to keep up with their rivals when it comes to exclusive titles"

Are u kidding me? We're almost September 2011 and 360 didnot even have 1 exclusive this year while PS3 has had AAA and AA games in almost every month!

Bioshock 2 was WEAK! It felt like Bioshock 1.5, no wonder it was made by a different dev than the original Bioshock.

nilamo5383d ago

Where exactly are these AAA and AA exclusives you get every month, cause all i've seen are flops.

xPhearR3dx5383d ago

Even if you don't like them, Kinect games are still exclusives. Same with their Arcade games. MS has always had a very strong line-up with their Arcade titles. Toy Soldiers: Cold War is a perfect example.

kaveti66165383d ago (Edited 5383d ago )

When you only have one bubble, you have to make it count.

Istanbull has been showing an aggressive determination to troll as efficiently as possible. He scans articles night and day looking for the right opportunity to put in his two cents.

He know that despite his obvious allegiance to the PS3 console, he's not going to be earning bubbles any time soon.

Him and Firemassacre are part of a larger group of multi-account veterans who like to take one for the team repeatedly.

TheDivine5383d ago

So what last year the 360 had 2-3x the exclusives as the ps3, in the first 2 years it has WAY more exclusives. Besides its quality not quantity. Last i enjoyed alan wake, metro 2033, sc conviction, fable 3, me2, reach, crackdown 2 where on ps3 i played gow3 and heavy rain. Consoles have slow periods besides this year has so many epic multiplats i dont mind. Loved bioshock and i just picked up bioshock 2 again after a 9 month break and im as hooked as i was in part 1. Great developer hope its not a kinect game.

omi25p5383d ago

Give it a break, Microsoft announce Brand New exclusive and here you are bringing sony into the topic. This is an XBOX article not a PS3 one.

Also microsoft have 3 AAA core exclusives coming out in the last part of the year. Halo Combat Evolved Anniversary, Forza 4 and Gears of War 3.

PirateThom5383d ago

Microsoft didn't announce anything, 2K announced they were looking for a lead designer for a game which happens to be on 360.

I think the whole thing is a bit of a stretch to assume it's a 360 exclusive based on a job listing.

Dante1125383d ago (Edited 5383d ago )

@ nilamo

Idk man, Sony's games have scored and sold pretty well this year (LBP2, MLB The Show 2011, Infamous 2, Killzone 3). Unless you consider games that scored in the 90-80s flops.

Edit: Thinking on it now, are you the same guy that said GT5 flopped in the forums recently lol?

kingdoms5383d ago (Edited 5383d ago )

People boast every year how PS3 has the best lineup but by the time the end of the years come the 360 has had just as many if not more exclusives. The count quietly gets forgotten for a few weeks where the myth gets started all over again annually.

PS3 fanboys may selectively dismiss what constitutes as a exclusive worthy of argument but games like Kinect Sports 2 will push hundreds of thousands of 360s despite your lack of recognition.

Do you think Microsoft cares if millions of people in one group are buying the 360 for Halo, Witcher 2 and the other group buying millions of 360s for Sesame Street and kinect Starwars in the next 7 months? Who cares what you say more consoles sold means more console support for me regardless of the type of games I play.

@kavet

Istanbul pm's me and told me after a heated exchanged he was a member called >NASIM< and he would pm me with all of his accounts until I stopped speaking my mind here. All these guys are the same guy.

Anyways Microsoft had a conceale until ready to reveal for marketing approach" Sony on the other hand has had a hype!!! the sh!t out of the game as soon as It's on the conceptual drawing board. It's not hard for Sony to win the propaganda wars each year doing this. This why ps3 games on lineup lists for any given year are often on lists for 2 to 4 years before actually release(lies and delays)

BlindGuardian5383d ago

more Kinect crap on the horizon

BlindGuardian5383d ago (Edited 5383d ago )

@nilamo

PS3 2011 so far:

LittleBigPlanet 2
Killzone 3
Yakuza 4
MLB The Show
PS Move Heroes
Mod Nation Racers
Socom 4
Motorstorm 3
Infamous 2
No More Heroes

(that's 10 games in 8 months)

360 2011 so far:

NOT A GODDAMNED THING

xPhearR3dx5382d ago

@BlindGuardian

Sorry bud but Modnation Racers came out LAST year. I know because I owned it. Great game, underrated IMO.

As far as the rest of your list, most of those games are MEH anyway, especially SOCOM 4, such a crap game. Only one even worth mentioning is LBP2 and maybe inFamous 2. Sony can pump out 100 retail exclusives in a year and I could care less. Quality > Quantity.

TheDareDevil5382d ago

About Istanbull in his own words

"Turkish loyal PlayStation fan, also a Sega fanboy. "

Where does the 'we' come in your comment then? Stop talking like you don't have a PS3 and have a 360. It's clearly not the case

YodaCracker5382d ago

@BlindGuardian

Trneched, Bastion, Insanely Twisted Shadow Planet, From Dust, Toy Soldiers: Cold War, and Ms. 'Splosion Man would like to have a word with you, sir.

kingslayer10005382d ago

we know 360 hasn't been getting many exclusives, but dont tell the truth you'll get disagrees out the ass

kingslayer10005382d ago

We know the 360 hasn't had many exclusives, but don't tell the truth about it you'll get a massive amount of disagrees

SuperSaiyan45382d ago (Edited 5382d ago )

Gears of War 3 and Halo Anniversary are Xbox 360 exclusives both of which are AAA and coming out this year, Gears 3 in September and Halo anniversary in Nov.

evrfighter5382d ago

exclusives are going to be overshadowed by the multiplats this year anyway...

not sure why you guys care so much.

Triple AAA EXCLUSIVE

Gears Of War 3
Forza 4
Halo CE Anniversary
Witcher 2 ( Console Exclusive )

that some strong games there

theEx1Le5382d ago

People will slaughter you for mentioning the witcher, but yet so many agrred with BlindGuardians mentioning of No more heroes, which was a wii game.

Simon_Brezhnev5383d ago

I got a strong feeling it is Kinect related.

-LUKE_SKYWALKER-5383d ago

Bioshock mechanics with Kinect sound like it would be pretty cool.

I would love to push my right hand to throw a swarm of bees at someone.

I think Kinect needs a NAV controller with 2 buttons on the front and 1 bush down button on the thumb analog stick.

StrongMan5383d ago

First of all, you would "throw a swarm of bees at someone" with your LEFT hand, not "right hand".

Second, wouldn't it defeat the purpose of Kinect if it had a controller with buttons?

SixZeroFour5383d ago

i hate when ppl think like you strongman

"Second, wouldn't it defeat the purpose of Kinect if it had a controller with buttons?"

yes, we get it, it was marketed as a controller-less experience, but where in the fine print does it say its limited to being only a controller-less experience? it already has controller-less games (quality of which are debatable), and could possibly have kinect+controller games as well, still wouldnt take away the fact that you are still using the kinect to an extent for a motion controlled experience

shikamaroooo5383d ago

I hope not too. But at Sony's e3 conference the bioshock dev bashed motion controller just before he said he was working on something for psv

Forbidden_Darkness5383d ago

Don't forget he announced Bioshock Infinite will have Playstation Move support

IM_A_NINJA5383d ago

Microsoft has already said that almost every Xbox 360 exclusive will have some sort of Kinect integration. It just depends on how much. Apparently Ryse can be used with Kinect or without, hopefully this is the same way. Not because I hate Kinect, as I actually like the device and own one, but because I like games to be able to reach a wider audience, having it use both Kinect and or a standard controller would allow that.

Then everyone could get what they wanted, Kinect (optional) or standard controller (optional) Win/win.

-LUKE_SKYWALKER-5383d ago

Does 2K Marine only make sea/ocean/water based games? I know its a silly question but just wondering.

if they are lookin for insane, then I got some good news for them :D

StrongMan5383d ago (Edited 5383d ago )

Probably some kind of on rails Bioshock spin off for Kinect. They figure if would be cool to throw plasmids by waving your left arm.

The second and third games were far worse than the original so I'm not sure another one is jeopardizing anything.

Neonridr2739d ago

second maybe.. but the third was a good game. Maybe not as good as the first one, but still a really well done game.

ziggurcat2739d ago

I think what made 2 so derided was the shoehorned MP mode. There was no real reason to have it in the game, and it probably detracted from the single player campaign a little bit.

It also didn't really seem to jive with the sort-of trailer for the second game they had inserted at the end of the first one.

rainslacker2738d ago

third game is different than the first two, and a really well made game,. I don't compare the third to the first two, like I do the 2nd to the 3rd.

I thought the first was better, but I think the 2nd made a better emotional attachment to the character. Game play was more fluid in the 2nd than the 1st though.

Neonridr2738d ago

@rainslacker - yeah I just didn't get that grand story feel like I did with the 1st and 3rd ones. They were VERY well written. The first Bioshock is probably one of my favorite games in terms of just story. I absolutely adored the setting of Rapture.

-Foxtrot2739d ago

“If they don’t visit either Rapture or Columbia, then where else are we going to go? They can’t make another underwater city or floating metropolis, so I don’t know if they can do any other setting”

Really?

“There’s always a lighthouse, there’s always a man, there’s always a city”

Just because two worlds, the main world, Columbia, which burst into some many altered possibilities tied in with another world, Rapture where the overall Booker/Elizabeth story ended doesn’t mean it’s finished completely. That story has split into a multiverse of different possibilities so a new game can do anything with any time period after the year Booker was baptised anyway since that decision is what made Comstock and set everything in motion splitting up in altered universes.

A city on a secret Island
Built around a Volcano
Underground near the Earths core
North Pole
Space station
On the moon
On Mars
In a pocket dimension
On the side of some cliffs
On regular land but invisible (like Wakanda)
Hidden within the rain Forrest
Is actually El Dorado
Is actually Atlantis
Is actually the city of Ubar
...So on

They could tell so many stories with new themes, different powers, technology and city architecture.

NecrumOddBoy2739d ago

I would love to see something with trains in a steampunk western mountain range

rainslacker2738d ago (Edited 2738d ago )

They made Elizabeth into a sort of pivotal character to both universes, which seems like it could cause problems with the lore going forward given that she was going around getting rid of all the incarnations of Comstock, who wasn't even part of Rapture outside of Booker going there, which in itself didn't make sense because of the time frames of both games being separated by a whole 50 years.. Columbia and Rapture really had no connection to one another, and they sort of forced that into the third near the end. It made practically no sense in Buried at Sea, and seemed more about fan service, than actual narrative consistency.

The only real connection was thematic, and not really story based, and the themes were only about the game play, and not so much the philosophical nature of the content.

That said, I loved all three games, and yeah, I agree, there are plenty of places the game could take place, as the setting itself isn't as important to what's going on in that setting. It's more about extremism wanting to separate itself from society, and what that can bring, because people are people no matter what their beliefs.

Neonridr2738d ago

The whole idea of the Rapture visit during Infinite was to show you that there were multiple dimensions. The whole statement there is always a lighthouse, always a man, always a city reflects that. Basically Parallel worlds, all created based on different choices. Choices which are thrust in your face every time you bump into those people who flip the coins. It's suggested that Comstock, instead of going up into the sky to build Columbia, went down to build Rapture instead in a parallel world. Obviously nothing is concrete but there are a lot of similarities between the characters of Rapture and Columbia.

It's an interesting theory to dig through..

rainslacker2737d ago (Edited 2737d ago )

Yeah, but parallel worlds that don't actually line up with normal time lines didn't really make sense. The problem is that the two worlds were separated by about 30 years from one another, so Booker would have been really young. Its been a while since i played Burial at Sea, but I don't recall them ever implying that Comstock was responsible for building it. Booker was just a PI investigating something there.

ziggurcat2739d ago

I would not be disappointed with another Bioshock announcement.

tdogg2739d ago

Loved Bioshock 1 & 2 and infinite was ok but not like the first 2 installment something about the sea and little sisters that made me love the first 2 Bioshock games

Sonyslave32738d ago

Agree I just got done beating 2 and it was a great game dont know why people were saying it was a bad game.

rainslacker2738d ago

My biggest gripe about Infinite was there was nothing akin to the Big Daddy. Even when you played as a Big Daddy in 2, they had Big Sisters, and more antagonists to the Big Daddy themselves. The Songbird was nowhere near the same thing as a Big Daddy, and didn't really instill the same kind of feelings, probably because there was only one, and until the end of the game, it was used more as a set piece than an enemy to fight.

Shiken2739d ago

Another Bioshock game could jeopardize the franchise...

No new Bioshock means the franchise is dead...

If something is dead then there is nothing jeopardize...

If there is nothing to risk jeopardizing, there is nothing to gain...

If there is something to risk, then the IP lives...

Take a risk, save a life.

BioShock 2: A 5-Year Retrospective

Nerdacy: When BioShock 2 first released I had a predisposition to not like the game. I had convinced myself that a BioShock sequel could not be as good as the original game, let alone a sequel made by a studio other than Irrational Games. After putting in countless hours and half-a-dozen replays, I admit that I was wrong.

I really enjoyed this game, I don't understand the hate.

CrossingEden4516d ago

The hate is because this game is a great game while the original was an amazing game. Amazing>Great

TheGOODKyle4516d ago

I enjoyed it thoroughly. Just because it wasn't as good as the first game doesn't mean it doesn't deserve to be played.

NukaCola4516d ago

Bioshock 2 was great and I enjoyed it very much.

nidhogg4515d ago (Edited 4515d ago )

true. and let's not forget that Bioshock Infinite borrowed thoroughly its combat mechanics such as charged plasmids. moreover, I found this game much more engaging and sweet by the end. :)

pyramidshead4516d ago (Edited 4516d ago )

The game pretty much fixed all the kinks that the first game had in terms of gameplay but the narrative didn't have that amazing twist. I don't think that should hinder its greatness, however.

Playing as a Big Daddy: Feel like a bad ass.(Changed perspective).
Ability to now dual wield gun and plasmid: feel like a bad ass.
Crappy hacking game fixed and streamlined.
Introduction of the Big Sister(nice touch).

Protecting Little Sisters added some strategic fun with those Trap Rivets and some how Big Daddies still had that dread factor.

tdogg4516d ago

Illiked both bioshock 1 and 2 but didn't like infinite.... must be something about the sea I liked

mafiahajeri4516d ago

Lol I can't say I hated infinite but it was definitely not as good as the original very rarely do sequels to critically acclaimed games impress as much as the originals. Also yes all the games in rapture were better...

Summons754516d ago

I honestly really enjoyed it. Gave a fresh perspective in the world of Rapture. While the story didn't have the twists like the first did it was still a fun ride. Only thing I really didn't like about the main campaign is the train segments to separate parts of the story, that just felt too much like Dead Space 1. BS2 online was decently fun for a while but not too great.
