6 Sequels That Got It Right

VGW: With the raft of games coming out this holiday season, it’s pretty easy to spot the pattern of rehashed franchise entries. For years, game publishers have had a bad case of sequelitis, and it only seems to be getting worse as the economy slogs downward and businesses become more risk-averse, turning to their trusty “been there; done that” stables to milk more from their existing cash-cows.

But not all sequels are bad, franchise-milking cash-ins, and indeed many of the most innovative games have come along well into long-lived series. Here are our top picks for sequels that stand out for truly improving on their predecessors instead of offering more of the same.

Are you trying to say MGS 1 and 2 didnt get it right?

Venoxn4g5395d ago

First was awesome, second wasn't better than the first.. third is best for me..

about Fatal frame.. I didn't like the first of bad rubber animations, but I did like all sequels, but I'll play first again, I know it's a good game, so I'll have to finish it..

Not looking good. Hopefully Asha Sharma is able to turn Phil’s disaster around.

To me it's still quite remarkable how they can cash-in 5.3bn in revenue in a single quarter, since their hardware is basically dead.

The stock mark is what makes Microsoft remarkable, They have convinced every institutional and retail investor to just keep piling money into them. Like many big tech giants they are just a big growing pyramid scheme. As long as people keep dropping money into ETF's that cover the market Microsoft will always be liquid. At the same time it is completely stifling innovation and competition. People need to start being more discreet in how they invest their money as it's killing the system.

Once they re-evaluate exclusive all will be fine….

S2Killinit27d ago

Riiiiight because people will just flock back to them for one or two games per year.

Jingsing27d ago

15+ years of bad performance is what they call irreparable in business. It is time for them to sell off the assets and get out of entertainment.

Tanktopmaster9227d ago

These declines are on the back of extra revenue received from releasing games like Forza horizon 5 on PlayStation. So I’m being sarcastic here when I said they should go back to exclusives. Killing off a revenue stream from Ps5 sales will only make things worse
