
VGW: With the raft of games coming out this holiday season, it’s pretty easy to spot the pattern of rehashed franchise entries. For years, game publishers have had a bad case of sequelitis, and it only seems to be getting worse as the economy slogs downward and businesses become more risk-averse, turning to their trusty “been there; done that” stables to milk more from their existing cash-cows.
But not all sequels are bad, franchise-milking cash-ins, and indeed many of the most innovative games have come along well into long-lived series. Here are our top picks for sequels that stand out for truly improving on their predecessors instead of offering more of the same.
