How will Ryu's fireball work in Tekken? Harada explains

We wouldn't want to be the guy in charge of putting Street Fighter characters into a Tekken game that isn't completely borked as a result. That man, however, is none other than the Tekken series' long-standing game director, Katsuhiro Harada, who has recently tackled the crucial question: How will Ryu's fireballs (and other projectiles) work in the traditionally melee-only Tekken universe in Tekken X Street Fighter?

I always had a idea that any fireball or sonicboom would just be done like the first Mortal Kombat movie where it stayed close to the persons hands, but doing high damage.

Or just do it like Devil's lazer and make it stationary, can't repeat use, and does leave you open. (That way Tekken players who dodge or sidestep have a chance as well.)

jc485735414d ago

funny how it took this long to have this discussion.

El_Colombiano5414d ago

Seriously. Projectiles in Tekken was a huge wtf for me.

Urrakia345414d ago

The game is apparently at "0%" development-wise so how do you expect him to elaborate on a gameplay mechanic when they haven't even started working on it?

Focker4205414d ago

I think sidestepping is a perfectly legit tactic to avoid fireballs in the Tekken game. Tekken characters are made to adapt to the techniques used in a 2D setting with Street Fighter x Tekken, so why not make the Street Fighter characters adapt to the 3D setting of Tekken x Street Fighter??

Both games are different for a reason. We can't make them exactly the same because each game has such different fighting techniques.

devilhunterx5414d ago

No one played Battle Arena Toshinden?

jetlian5414d ago

you guys never play tekken jinpachis fireball could be dodged

Quagmire5413d ago (Edited 5413d ago )

I figured it will be similar to Heihachis attack where it looks like he's performing a hadouken (or kamehameha), but he actually shocks the opponent, in the form of physically hitting them, without the need for power/energy/wave.

But seriously, people should leave them alone. Theyre busy working on Tekken Tag Tournament 2, let them finish that up before starting to really focus on TxSF

The reports of Tekken X Street Fighter's death have been greatly exaggerated and the game's director, Katsuhiro Harada, isn't too thrilled about the mistake.

It hasn't come to pass for 2 generations now, seems dead to me.

CobraKai1802d ago

Yeah. It’s dead unless they show something new.

UnSelf1802d ago

This thing just wont die. What will it take goddamn it

Jericho13371802d ago

That didn’t stop Kazuya, why would it stop this? 😉

CptDville1801d ago

What is dead may never die.

Vanfernal1802d ago

A person in vegetative state is technically not dead either...

hombreacabado1802d ago

you will all eat your words when tekken vs street fighter releases in 2032!

MasterChief36241802d ago

My dad is Katsuhiro Harada, and I can confirm they are shooting for a 2032 release date. How did you find this information, though? I've kept very tight-lipped.

hombreacabado1801d ago

an assortment of black magic algorithms and a team of mathematicians allowed me to deduce the actual release date.

purple1011802d ago (Edited 1802d ago )

"the game's director, Katsuhiro Harada, "

The game actually has a director. Don't know whether to laugh or cry - what the hell has he been doing ?

shadowhaxor1802d ago

Tekken 7, a ton of Tekken 7 DLC and now the Tekken 8 that's "rumored" in development.

I know this game is dead, they just refuse to let it die in peace.

That's sad to hear but we knew it was inevitable

blackblades1804d ago (Edited 1804d ago )

Yeah, but at least they added a SF character akuma in tekken 7 and Fatal fury character.

jukins1804d ago

That only added to the possibility for me. Because Akuma worked so damn well in tekken 7 i just "knew" it was gonna come true

CobraKai1804d ago

Yeah. Akuma felt like a working prototype to an actual Tekken X Street Fighter, but if it never happened during the last 2 generations, it was likely not going to happen at all.

blackblades1803d ago

@CobraKai
My guess from what I remember was that they had a contract. They both do a game with each other. Capcom did there's and namco game fell off the wagon so akuma made it into tekken 7 to feel that contract.

IRetrouk1804d ago (Edited 1804d ago )

🥺😭🏃‍♂️ 🏃‍♂️🏃‍♂️

UnSelf1804d ago

Now do MK vs SF like we’ve been waiting for for 30 years

Viking_mo1803d ago

Aint going to happen. Capcom already said why it wont work

porkChop1804d ago

So they barely even worked on it. I wonder what happened.

Bobertt1803d ago

It sounds like it was cancelled a long time ago when it was at 30% but they are just officially saying it now. I could be wrong but i think years ago he said the issue was keeping the feel of all the Street Fighter characters in the 3D Tekken format. They were having issues porting over all the moves i think. Plus with the other game not selling well it probably lost funding and it was put on hold then Yoshinori Ono left.

Where is Tekken X Street Fighter?

Dan Rizzo says "where is Tekken X Street Fighter? Was its reveal all for naught? Are we lead to believe that Harada’s still holding out after Ono’s departure? Will we ever see a draft of its early development phase? These are all questions that will remain – along with the title itself – in video gaming purgatory."

I think IF this game ever happened, they would remaster Street Fighter X Tekken just for the sake of it being up to date with Tekken X Street Fighter.

I can't imagine Capcom being ok with Tekken X Street Fighter being on the PS5/Series X/S while Street Fighter X Tekken is literally two system generations behind.

Petebloodyonion1872d ago

I think Capcom wants ppl to forget about that Pay to win game they created or the need to remove the gem currency from it.

Petebloodyonion1872d ago

I believe that both companies are doing well with their own fighting game atm so they don't see the urgency to produce that title. But I could see some Cameo appearing on Sf6 or the next Tekken game.

BenRC011872d ago (Edited 1872d ago )

So much fun on the vita, combos tagged to the touch screen meant some easy cross platform wins.
