...this is coming from the same artists who worked on Oblivion. I'd like to know if those people were let go, at some point, and replaced with much better talent. It's hard to imagine someone could just naturally get that much better at character and environment design, in such a short time.

Well, without being too much of a downer, it's worth noting these are so called "bullshots", edited for PR purposes, which Bethesda is notoriously good at. How representative it is of how Skyrim looks remains up in the air. Oblivion didn't look or play much like some of its early showings either.

Still, it does look pretty damn good. They'd already improved for Fallout 3, they just seem to be improving further.

Considering some live footage I have now seen of the game running on console these shots are shockingly accurate.

We are all in for a treat.

I don't think you understand what I mean. "Bullshots" can't fix horrible character models and facial features, or change landscape and/or architectural design. Maybe you don't understand what a bullshot really is either?

And there is no need for bullshots for PC, you see some for consoles tought, f.ex. higher resolution pics.

But in this case, as pogipaldy stated, they might be accurate, it's stunning!

Can't wait this game!
