MS should announce 360 successor. 6 years had been passed they should bring it in 2012. Cuz PS4 is gonna be more power full wii 2 and 720.. Without any hestitation. They should take a step now..

Jio5446d ago

I still think current systems still have life left in them.

jessupj5446d ago (Edited 5446d ago )

The PS3 does at least. Wii was outdated before it even hit the shelves. And now the successor is only going to be brought up to par with the other 2 consoles. Well no prizes for guessing who nintedo has abondoned yet again.

Just imagine if they came out with a console that was twice as powerful as the current generation. They would capiticalise on the hardcore and the casual.

death2smoochie5446d ago

@jessupj

Have you seen the rumored specs of the Wii2?
Based on those..if they are real of course...
Then it would be 3-4 times more powerful than the PS3 and Xbox360.
Those specs actually blow away the PS3 and Xbox360 in bandwidth alone and GPU features.

AAACE55446d ago

Power isn't everything!

In case you haven't noticed, the most powerful console has usually ended up in last place while the weaker ended up in first!

Besides the fact that Ps1 used a cd drive, it was weaker than N64. Ps1 won!(32 bit vs. 64 bit)

Ps2 had a 299 MHz processor. Gamecube had a 405 MHz processor. Xbox had a 733 MHz processor. Ps2 won!

This gen, Wii is weakest, 360 is middle and Ps3 is most powerful! The sales place them in order that way as well.

Still think the 360 has a little bit left in it to last til 2012, but after that, it's probably time for the next console.

DrFUD5446d ago

CHIDORI PS4 will be more powerful because once Wii2 releases MS won't be able to wait long with it out there because they know the value of being the only one on the market for hardcores who love powerful new tech, while Sony will release last and therefore will have more powerful pieces available and cheaper at that point.

death2smoochie5446d ago

And how do you know the PS4 will be more powerful than the Xbox720? Are you Kreskin? LOL

jdfoster005446d ago

Because the play station is more of a hardcore machine. All ways and all ways will. PlayStation is not built to be a platform for just games but is a platform for entertainment in ll shapes and sizes. This is why Sony has the rights to blu-ray (duel layer) and sold their console at a loss to build up the hardware and tech that will enable them to make profit for future projects. PS2 more powerful than xbox. Ps3 more powerful than 360 and so will the ps4. Microsoft are going down the casual gaming way. With kinect and so on ... So they won't need to please all the hardcore guys with powerful hardware to create graphically amazing games as Microsoft are aiming to gain a large 'casual' presence on they're sytem. Whereas the ps3 has allways gone after the 'Hardcore' route.. Bringing out blu-ray and investing in FIRST pary games (AAA titles) Whereas Microsift as allways relied on 3rd party games...

Ducky5446d ago

"PS2 more powerful than xbox."

O.o

Agent_S5446d ago (Edited 5446d ago )

You don't really understand what you are saying. Just keep rambling jd. Thanks FatOldMan just about to point that out.

death2smoochie5446d ago (Edited 5446d ago )

Hmmmm...where to start:

First off...the Xbox 1 was far more powerful than the PS2. This is common knowledge. Where are you getting your information from?
The PS3 had almost half the amount of ram as the Xbox1..The PS2 had no dedicated GPU...Did not support AA in hardware. Had no programmable Pixel/vertex shader alogrythms in hardware. Launched with no HDD. Had less bandwidth overall.
There was no game on the PS2 that could produce technical visuals like Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory or Chronicles of Riddick. Lets not even mention Half-Life 2 or Ninja Gaiden.
As a matter of fact while I am at it, the PS2 was the weakest of the console systems last generation period. The Gamecube was more powerful than the PS2. Look that up...
I will continue...the PS1 was also weaker overall than the N64. Look all this up. Research it ;-)

So it was only the PS3 that has been the most powerful system this generation for Sony. All of its other consoles were the weakest.
That's 1-3 for SOny..and if this Wii 2 launches before this generation ends..then Sony will not have had the most powerful console an entire generation: Period. A sobering thought...
As for MS ALWAYS relying on 3rd party? Correct..for this generation. Last generation they could not get much 3rd party support as Sony had most of it...
So I won't have to tell you what company had and relied on most 3rd party support last generation.
The one game that put Sony over the top early last generation was GTA.

It's just this generation where Sony has focused more heavily on 1st/2nd party support.
Last generation SOny focused on 3rd party games.
Btw. Sony is part of the Alliance for Blu-Ray and they do not hold ALL the rights. Research that also.

Machioto5446d ago (Edited 5446d ago )

@ death2smoochie the ps2 had hhd but it was optional on select models and the ps2 was equal to strengh to the gamecube the only difference was optimization on software and n64 came after ps1.

B1663r5446d ago

Also, blu-ray while not a failure, is not really what you would call a huge success either...

I mean here we are 5 years in, and when it is not a holiday month only 10%-15% of movies sold are blu ray... At a time when overall dvd sales are on the decline because people are switching to downloads in droves...

I mean, my dad who is 70 years old downloads his movies...

Biggest5446d ago

It would have been pretty hard for the PS2 to have better hardware than the Xbox. The PS2 DID have better hardware than its competitors at the time it was released. Sony makes gaming machines that are meant to last. The other companies making gaming machines that are meant to die out as soon as sales dip too far.

TheDivine5446d ago (Edited 5446d ago )

LOL.....This is the first gen the playstation has ever been the most powerful and its not by much.

For ms to win they have their work cut out. Id say bring out
Alan Wake 2
Fable 4
Lost Odyssey 2
Halo remake
Jade Empire 2/Kotor 3
Too Human sequals (i loved it what can i say)
Kameo 2
perfect dark
new splinter cell
halo remake
Witcher 2 console exclusive
new mech assault
doom 4 exclusive
crimson skies sequal
killer instinct
maybe keep metro 2034 and risen 2 console exclusives and steal ffvs13
New kinect games (they need to give reasons for core gamers to buy one)
Announce new xbox and/or a handheld with xbl to compete with ps vita/ngp
Ms has TONS of great ips from the xbox and 360 but they dont do sequals unless they sell millions which is dumb but they can make alot of good games if they choose and kinect has potential if they use it for apps and cool cheap indy games plus intigrate every exclusive game to have extra features with kinect.

I didn't know it was a competition... I thought it was a trade show. I guess us poor non-fanboys will just have to keep gaming on all our systems while knowing in the back of our minds that one is better than the other. :(

Redgehammer5446d ago

I agree, I think its a place to get great gaming news and see awesome future game trailers.

This kind of proves this is an after thought product, most products like this are in r&d 5 years before they start mass producing. So they typically have the cost of components and things worked out long before assembly starts.

This is an assumption still, but I wouldn’t be surprised if project helix is similar to Scalebound, perfect dark and sod3. They had an idea but no actual execution other than concept stage. Being impacted by the ram shortage likely would also put this device 3-4 years out.

I’m not even sure MS has that endurance with Xbox yet

Fishy Fingers2h ago(Edited 2h ago)

I mean.... what?

We're at a point that Samsung wont even provide their own phone department ram because they can sell it at higher prices to 3rd parties (AI). Its more profitable to sell the ram than make their own devices with it.

You think because R&D starts 5 years ago the 3rd party component manufacturers will honour that price? They'll sell it to whomever is paying the most today, not some gentlemens agreement they made years ago. AI farms will buy more volume at higher prices than any console manufacturer will. It'll be the same for Playstation.

Profchaos2h ago(Edited 2h ago)

Helix is going to be stupidly expensive

Instead of leaning into smarter upscaling techniques they're brute forcing hardware that will cost them dearly and it remains to be seen if it's genuinely going to provide a meaningful differential

I know in the oc.doace people like to brag about not using frame gen or dlss to get to high on a game but for the majority of players they happily use those technologies without a second thought

That's going to be ps6 vs Helix

blacktiger2h ago

It's called systematic inflationary. Yes we get it Microsoft, keep raising in the name ofall kinds of stuffs

pwnmaster30001h ago

Honestly if there was thing I learned from this generation is that new consoles arnt day one anymore.
I can wait 1-3 years.

DarXyde17m ago

Another important lesson from this generation: while Nintendo showed us that prices don't necessarily need to ever drop, we've now learned that waiting 1-3 years does carry some risk that prices increase. This generation is just bizarre in all the wrong ways.

A good start would be to release games to go with the console. My Xbox Series X has gathered dust virtually from launch. My advice would be to ditch a next console and release games on PC, PlayStation and Switch. Another idea would be a hybrid console based on Xbox Series X tech and go the same route as Nintendo. Another idea would be to pull out of gaming altogether. Plenty of options there.

Xbox Game Pass Ultimate Price Update

Starting today, Game Pass Ultimate drops from $29.99 to $22.99 a month. PC Game Pass will also drop from $16.49 to $13.99 a month. Prices may vary by region.

Beginning this year, future Call of Duty titles won’t join Game Pass Ultimate or PC Game Pass at launch. New Call of Duty games will be added to Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass during the following holiday season (about a year later), while existing Call of Duty titles already in the library will continue to be available.

can't wait to hear how this is spun negatively.

darthv726d ago

Its nice there is some kind of drop... but is that all they really value CoD to be, a lousy $7 a month?

I was hoping it would drop by $10.

MisterBoots6d ago

That $7 equates to $84 per year - which is more than COD new ($69.99 + tax).

So - you can get the exact same thing - and save a few bucks - or you can skip COD and pocket the savings or use toward another game - or games if on sale.

That’s how I’m taking it - and is enough for me to sign back up after canceling the day it went to $29.99.

fr0sty6d ago

It's unlikely that COD is going to be the only title they stop offering day one, but we'll see how they play their hand.

VenomUK5d ago (Edited 5d ago )

Including Call of Duty in Game Pass is just leaving money on the table. When the Elder Scrolls VI releases hopefully Microsoft doesn’t launch it into Game Pass. Then it can make more profits and use it give more value to Xbox console owners!

1Victor6d ago

Can’t wait to hear how this will be spun extremely positive. 🤣
I wonder why knowing Microsoft thick head something must has happened in the background in the levels of Xbox one and Kinect 🤷🏿

fr0sty6d ago

Any price cut is a good thing in this day and age, but it also reveals a flaw in GamePass' design that we've all been calling out for years... it's unsustainable, especially with day and date releases on new games. COD won't be the only game they exclude, they're setting a precedent with it that they'll likely expand upon in the future.

At least they're being realistic about it now. I bet in the future we're going to start seeing them try to subsidize the high price of new consoles by making you buy 2-3 years of gamepass with it to get the console cheaper. I'm still not sure that'll be enough to save either the hardware or gamepass, but we'll see.

Neonridr5d ago

price cuts are good, the removal of Call of Duty is clearly something they are planning to leverage. But considering everyone around N4G claims Call of Duty sucks, it's not a big loss now is it?

LucasRuinedChildhood6d ago (Edited 6d ago )

Well, they're removing their biggest game from being Day 1 on the service so GamePass users can buy it instead. That's the intention.

They increased the price to $30, then removed COD and dropped it to still be above the old price.

It's an understandable compromise but the consumer Ultimately is getting less.

Think the calculation is that *most* COD users don't play that many games and aren't interested in GamePass. The GamePass users who do like COD would just buy it anyway. MS reportedly lost out a lot of money last year putting COD on GamePass.

Bathyj6d ago (Edited 6d ago )

Well Call of duty could just be the beginning. What other games can they trim from the service to get the price down? How long before it's just the Xbox core first party studio games and not the one to everquired?

Create an interesting scenario with Call of duty as well. Will people wait a year to play it? Does that split the fan base? Will it hurt to Call of duty more than a benefits Game pass? These are all legitimate questions which we will find the answers to in the coming years

And I don't consider my post negative spin just realistic observation. At the very least this backtracking can be seen as an admittance that the previous strategy of gamepass was not sustainable as most of us said.

darthv726d ago

I'd get rid of the EA and Ubisoft+ too. That should bring the price down more. The only game from either of those parts of the service i played was jedi Fallen order / survivor. both of which i also bought on disc so it was more of a convenience i didnt have to put the disc in to play when i was playing them via remote play. And really that is why i still use GPU and PS+. its the convenience of having the games ready to play from a remote location. I havent picked up my consoles controllers in at least a few years. I guess that makes me a bad gamer, but so what. i'm still playing the games, just not physically on the machines themselves. GCloud and Portal are my go to now.

GhostScholar6d ago

They’ll say no one is buying game pass so they had to drop the price , even though it’s been extremely profitable.

Outside_ofthe_Box5d ago

Why remove CoD if it's *extremely* profitable then? Why even increase it to begin with?

Outside_ofthe_Box5d ago

Always funny seeing those that defended the price hike go "how you gonna spin this now!" after the price drops.

You should be thanking those that called it out. Obviously this is a good thing especially with everything increasing nowadays.

Also, what happened to the reason why that the Activision acquisition was good for gaming was that CoD would be day one on GamePass? Another backtrack on that I guess...

What removing CoD on GamePass shows, is that it's not sustainable for for the more popular and/or bigger budget games because of the sales you lose out on like people have been saying since inception. It never made sense to put CoD on there unless you thought it's popularity would draw in a lot of subscribers which it obviously didn't. And if it was as sustainable as people claim they wouldn't have increased the price while putting it on there in the first place.

New Xbox Boss the 🐐?

6d ago
Vits6d ago

In my region, it’s still more expensive than it was before the last price hike, but it’s a far more viable price point.

Losing Call of Duty from the service, honestly, has zero effect on me, and given they chose to make it so, it’s probably not the big seller they originally thought. Overall, it’s really good news, but I still think they have work to do on the tier structure, having Premium and PC at the same price point with different features feels odd.

Lightning776d ago

Yep take COD out. Them waiting a year is interesting but it make sense. They don't want certain ppl waiting 4 to 6 months they want fomo and maximum sales. Wait a year while the new one releases.

Ok so far so good.
