How Microsoft can win E3

E3 is fast approaching, with Microsoft set to reveal its upcoming wears first on June 6 - less than two weeks away. While Sony is set to focus on the NGP and Nintendo will unveil its Project Café, Microsoft seems unlikely to reveal any new hardware. Without the excitement that comes from new gaming platforms, can the Xbox 360 and Kinect offer enough to win E3 2011? Here's what VideoGamer.com think needs to happen for Microsoft to be in with a chance.

1. Gears 3
2. Forza 4
3. Codename Kingdoms
4. Steel Battalion Heavy Armor
5. Codename D
6. Star Wars
7. Rise of Nightmares

All with awesome trailers and release dates. Hopefully some unannounced hardcore titles on the way such as Halo CE remake. Plus a small yet exciting reveal of the next Xbox.

This way they could at least come second. We all know that Nintendo is going to win this E3 hands down again :D

EDIT: iamsuperman, if MS are shooting for a 2012 release date it's quite possible that they will subtly reveal their next console this year. Much like Nintendo did with Wii at E3 2005.

iamnsuperman5452d ago (Edited 5452d ago )

"Plus a small yet exciting reveal of the next Xbox." in your dreams. Not going to happen. Kinect is selling like hot cakes with the bundles also selling. Why on earth would they announce a new console when there bundles are selling well. It is literally destroy hardware sales for the 360 and Kinect

Edit : Change your comment. At least you saw sense..... Nintendo will win because of a new hardware. It is really who will come second Sony or Microsoft. New consoles always wins E3 unless Nintendo really mess it up

The Meerkat5452d ago (Edited 5452d ago )

Just imagine a darkened room filled with a couple of hundred people....
Then Microsoft appears on the screen....
Followed by darkness again for another 3 or 4 seconds....
Then the Halo theme plays.

The whole room would erupt.

zootang5452d ago

Just look back at the hype before the last couple of E3's for MS. They failed to deliver and I doubt this E3 will be any different.

r1sh125452d ago

i dont see them winning with games like gears 3 and forza 4 being re-announced.
All I would like to see again is more GTA DLC coming to the xbox first like the last time.
That was a show stopper moment when that tattoo was revealed lol.

I can only see something like that helping MS win, because Sony have a great line up (a side from the hack issues). Sony have to pull out all the stops so people start to forget the hack, it will also give analysts something to predict if Sony do really good since sony posted a massive year on year loss.

ABizzel15452d ago

They can't hardware reveals trounce any and everything simply because they only occur every 5+ years. If we don't see a new Xbox then MS is going to "lose", but that doesn't mean they'll have a bad E3.

Venoxn4g5452d ago

So that's how the world gonna end.. :) Microsoft will release new Xbox 720 with nuclear battery or processor, people gonna buy it a lot across the world, then when RROD will happen, whole earth will exlode :) 2012 ;) [nah, just joking] :)

btw.. I still think that Nintendo will will E3.. though I have a xbox360 too and do hope that this year Microsoft will show something good, not just party & kinect games..

SasanovaS19875452d ago

lol even with everything the site named, along with wishful thinking from delusional xbox fanboys on here, microsoft STILL wouldnt be even close to winning E3...

u cant win e3 when u have no games :/

Zir05452d ago

They won for the past 3 years and it will likely happen again this year.

MS knows they must have something huge if they are going up against hardware (NGP and Wii 2)

kikizoo5452d ago

Lol, delusional much..

they "won" nothing, last year was all about ps3 (even if 3DS stole the show), and this years, ps3 exclusives are (again) beyong everything..

but for fanboyz, a fake video (remember natal) or a stupid "stolen exclusives" (remember final fantasy) is enough to "won", even when sony has much better... everything.

X-Zone5452d ago

Since this generation began, Microsoft have not won E3 once, it's been back an forth between Nintendo and Sony and will be the same this year.

solideagle15452d ago

hahahahaha just laughed so hard at your comment man....hahahaha

thanks for laughing me.

Tr10wn5452d ago

lol since when you started watching e3, last year?

Nintendo is hardly winning E3's this gen, last year was the first nintendo wow moment in e3 with the 3ds and i hope this year will be the same and from Sony's E3's well, they always announce games... with 8 to 10 hours gameplay and i'm sick of it, gow3 was the last sony exclusive in my list, not wasting another 60$ bucks for another 8 hours game and TBH i don't like killzone serie nor resistance so there is nothing worth my money on the ps3, and back to the point MS always delivers with their MP games, Halo, Gears and Forza are enough for my taste and god know's what they will be announcing this year.

FYI in G4 TV they always said who won E3 after every conference and MS has been winning almost ever E3 this gen except for last years which Nintendo won.

karl5452d ago

of course Ms always wins E3

with the Cirque du soleil and a few popstars in their line up.. what else could gamers ask for

wait whaT? those are not gameS? really?

as always .. no new games from MS.. whoever think differently is completely delusional,

M-A-R-S-H-A-L-L5452d ago

With Kinect stuff? Uh...no.

TBM5452d ago

How about showing some new and interesting IPs that are not linked to kinect in any way. Also stop showing the exact same 3 games.

Microsoft as a gamer of more than 30yrs I would like you to create something I would be excited about that's fresh, maybe a bold direction. I do not care for your casual games for your camera, and before some come with those supposed 5 games from japan i'll just say i'll believe it when I see it.

Im not worried about the other two companies because they got me covered on the games I already want, with the introduction of a new system, but M$ please show me something other than halo, forza, and fable from your own studios.

LukaX235452d ago

Right. "Win" E3. Because it's totally a competition.

edhe5452d ago

In the fanboy's eyes it's *all* about dick-waving.

Solid_Snake-5452d ago (Edited 5452d ago )

microsoft have only failed one E3 this gen and it was last year.

lol@ when kojima walked on stage at MS E3 2009. PWND

Reefskye5452d ago

What to announce a multiplat? then later he came on to Sony's stage and revealed a PSP exlusive..

cemelc5452d ago (Edited 5452d ago )

LoL i remember that E3 the one kojima told he wouldnt be involved in the game in stage...

yeah that was pretty epic /s

Now thatks to that we have a metal gear crappy game instead of a real metal gear.

Pyscho_Mantis5452d ago

LMAO before you get so nerdgasmed Kojima is not working on this game personally. But its still gunna be awesome.

ksense5452d ago

do u remember when the microsoft guy started saying we will be seeing snake on the 360 and kojima stopped him and said not snake but the metal gear franchise to the 360. In other words nothing major when you don't have the main character in the series lol. Raiden lmao

Microsoft can't win E3, I doubt they'll even be second

LastDance5452d ago

I was unaware that there was a prize to be "won" at E3.

rabidpancakeburglar5452d ago

There's not but the company who 'wins' is the one with the best lineup

No Way5452d ago (Edited 5452d ago )

But, who is to say who has the 'best line up,' that's an opinion, my dude.
Not everyone would agree on who had the 'best' line up of games, ya know?
Though, if you want to say the 'biggest' line up, you may have something.
I mean, Microsoft will (most likely) show off their two blockbuster games.
Then they will show off a few games here and there, with some Kinect, too.
As far as Sony goes, well .. they just showin off a shit load of great games.

Anyway, I think that both companies (even Ninty) will best last year.

Kon5452d ago

Congrats, you just invented the E3 podium.

Lucreto5452d ago

I say Kinect will be the top of the agenda like last year.

Gears3, Forza and Halo remake are all a given and exclusive DLC with MW3. 10 Kinect titles with more of a hardcore leaning and possibly announcement of Too Human 2 and Alan Wake 2.

Gears3, Forza and Halo remake are the important ones where MS will put full force of advertising behind them.

I doubt they will show off the new Xbox after 7 months of Kinect. This will announce it next year for a 2013 release. They will not risk potential sale of the 360 for the rest of the year by announcing a new machine especially with Gears just around the corner.

No Way5452d ago (Edited 5452d ago )

A lot of people hate on Too Human, but I find most never actually played it.
The game had it's problems, sure, but it was still a good game, regardless.
Especially with a friend. Wish they never got rid of 4-player co-op, though.
Personally, the only problems I had were the items and death animation.
Though, I didn't hardly die too often, so it wasn't much a problem to me.
And, the items, they all had some funky names and it was just .. bad.
They campaign could have been a little longer, but overall .. I enjoyed it.

If they can fix the issues the first game had, Too Human 2 would be great
And, hopefully, they have their own (or a better) engine, this time around.

Theyellowflash305452d ago

Yeah if Kinect had more pull with core gamers then they might be able to maybe get in the running but thats not the case. Sony and Nintendo both have new hardware so those will always steal the show.

BeaArthur5452d ago

Can't win a press conference.

Baka-akaB5452d ago (Edited 5452d ago )

Thank you . But what can you do ... it's that time of the year ... with even more idiots coming out of the woods .

earbus5452d ago

Very true its a press conference not a schoolyard brawl.

Ddouble5452d ago

I've been saying this for so long now.

Tr10wn5452d ago

G4TV always ask the peoples for the winners of E3 after the show and some sites like IGN, Gamespot, Videogamers do the same, i think people are going that way and not for the fact that is a conference, i just see it like a show and at the end the best show is the winner.

BeaArthur5452d ago

I'm fine with that, selecting the best game you saw and got hands on time with.

This kind of proves this is an after thought product, most products like this are in r&d 5 years before they start mass producing. So they typically have the cost of components and things worked out long before assembly starts.

This is an assumption still, but I wouldn’t be surprised if project helix is similar to Scalebound, perfect dark and sod3. They had an idea but no actual execution other than concept stage. Being impacted by the ram shortage likely would also put this device 3-4 years out.

I’m not even sure MS has that endurance with Xbox yet

Fishy Fingers1h ago(Edited 1h ago)

I mean.... what?

We're at a point that Samsung wont even provide their own phone department ram because they can sell it at higher prices to 3rd parties (AI). Its more profitable to sell the ram than make their own devices with it.

You think because R&D starts 5 years ago the 3rd party component manufacturers will honour that price? They'll sell it to whomever is paying the most today, not some gentlemens agreement they made years ago. AI farms will buy more volume at higher prices than any console manufacturer will. It'll be the same for Playstation.

Profchaos32m ago(Edited 29m ago)

Helix is going to be stupidly expensive

Instead of leaning into smarter upscaling techniques they're brute forcing hardware that will cost them dearly and it remains to be seen if it's genuinely going to provide a meaningful differential

I know in the oc.doace people like to brag about not using frame gen or dlss to get to high on a game but for the majority of players they happily use those technologies without a second thought

That's going to be ps6 vs Helix

A good start would be to release games to go with the console. My Xbox Series X has gathered dust virtually from launch. My advice would be to ditch a next console and release games on PC, PlayStation and Switch. Another idea would be a hybrid console based on Xbox Series X tech and go the same route as Nintendo. Another idea would be to pull out of gaming altogether. Plenty of options there.

Xbox Game Pass Ultimate Price Update

Starting today, Game Pass Ultimate drops from $29.99 to $22.99 a month. PC Game Pass will also drop from $16.49 to $13.99 a month. Prices may vary by region.

Beginning this year, future Call of Duty titles won’t join Game Pass Ultimate or PC Game Pass at launch. New Call of Duty games will be added to Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass during the following holiday season (about a year later), while existing Call of Duty titles already in the library will continue to be available.

can't wait to hear how this is spun negatively.

darthv726d ago

Its nice there is some kind of drop... but is that all they really value CoD to be, a lousy $7 a month?

I was hoping it would drop by $10.

MisterBoots5d ago

That $7 equates to $84 per year - which is more than COD new ($69.99 + tax).

So - you can get the exact same thing - and save a few bucks - or you can skip COD and pocket the savings or use toward another game - or games if on sale.

That’s how I’m taking it - and is enough for me to sign back up after canceling the day it went to $29.99.

fr0sty5d ago

It's unlikely that COD is going to be the only title they stop offering day one, but we'll see how they play their hand.

VenomUK5d ago (Edited 5d ago )

Including Call of Duty in Game Pass is just leaving money on the table. When the Elder Scrolls VI releases hopefully Microsoft doesn’t launch it into Game Pass. Then it can make more profits and use it give more value to Xbox console owners!

1Victor6d ago

Can’t wait to hear how this will be spun extremely positive. 🤣
I wonder why knowing Microsoft thick head something must has happened in the background in the levels of Xbox one and Kinect 🤷🏿

fr0sty5d ago

Any price cut is a good thing in this day and age, but it also reveals a flaw in GamePass' design that we've all been calling out for years... it's unsustainable, especially with day and date releases on new games. COD won't be the only game they exclude, they're setting a precedent with it that they'll likely expand upon in the future.

At least they're being realistic about it now. I bet in the future we're going to start seeing them try to subsidize the high price of new consoles by making you buy 2-3 years of gamepass with it to get the console cheaper. I'm still not sure that'll be enough to save either the hardware or gamepass, but we'll see.

Neonridr5d ago

price cuts are good, the removal of Call of Duty is clearly something they are planning to leverage. But considering everyone around N4G claims Call of Duty sucks, it's not a big loss now is it?

LucasRuinedChildhood6d ago (Edited 6d ago )

Well, they're removing their biggest game from being Day 1 on the service so GamePass users can buy it instead. That's the intention.

They increased the price to $30, then removed COD and dropped it to still be above the old price.

It's an understandable compromise but the consumer Ultimately is getting less.

Think the calculation is that *most* COD users don't play that many games and aren't interested in GamePass. The GamePass users who do like COD would just buy it anyway. MS reportedly lost out a lot of money last year putting COD on GamePass.

Bathyj6d ago (Edited 6d ago )

Well Call of duty could just be the beginning. What other games can they trim from the service to get the price down? How long before it's just the Xbox core first party studio games and not the one to everquired?

Create an interesting scenario with Call of duty as well. Will people wait a year to play it? Does that split the fan base? Will it hurt to Call of duty more than a benefits Game pass? These are all legitimate questions which we will find the answers to in the coming years

And I don't consider my post negative spin just realistic observation. At the very least this backtracking can be seen as an admittance that the previous strategy of gamepass was not sustainable as most of us said.

darthv725d ago

I'd get rid of the EA and Ubisoft+ too. That should bring the price down more. The only game from either of those parts of the service i played was jedi Fallen order / survivor. both of which i also bought on disc so it was more of a convenience i didnt have to put the disc in to play when i was playing them via remote play. And really that is why i still use GPU and PS+. its the convenience of having the games ready to play from a remote location. I havent picked up my consoles controllers in at least a few years. I guess that makes me a bad gamer, but so what. i'm still playing the games, just not physically on the machines themselves. GCloud and Portal are my go to now.

GhostScholar6d ago

They’ll say no one is buying game pass so they had to drop the price , even though it’s been extremely profitable.

Outside_ofthe_Box5d ago

Why remove CoD if it's *extremely* profitable then? Why even increase it to begin with?

Outside_ofthe_Box5d ago

Always funny seeing those that defended the price hike go "how you gonna spin this now!" after the price drops.

You should be thanking those that called it out. Obviously this is a good thing especially with everything increasing nowadays.

Also, what happened to the reason why that the Activision acquisition was good for gaming was that CoD would be day one on GamePass? Another backtrack on that I guess...

What removing CoD on GamePass shows, is that it's not sustainable for for the more popular and/or bigger budget games because of the sales you lose out on like people have been saying since inception. It never made sense to put CoD on there unless you thought it's popularity would draw in a lot of subscribers which it obviously didn't. And if it was as sustainable as people claim they wouldn't have increased the price while putting it on there in the first place.

New Xbox Boss the 🐐?

6d ago
Vits6d ago

In my region, it’s still more expensive than it was before the last price hike, but it’s a far more viable price point.

Losing Call of Duty from the service, honestly, has zero effect on me, and given they chose to make it so, it’s probably not the big seller they originally thought. Overall, it’s really good news, but I still think they have work to do on the tier structure, having Premium and PC at the same price point with different features feels odd.

Lightning776d ago

Yep take COD out. Them waiting a year is interesting but it make sense. They don't want certain ppl waiting 4 to 6 months they want fomo and maximum sales. Wait a year while the new one releases.

Ok so far so good.
